This study examined the correlation between serum miR-98-5p levels and indices of microvascular reperfusion in patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) after ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Additionally, we evaluated the mechanisms by which miR-98-5p promoted ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-induced injury in both cultured cell lines and an animal model.
Circulating miR-98-5p levels were measured and compared from 171 STEMI patients undergoing pPCI, who were divided into two groups no-reflow and reflow. The levels of miR-98-5p, nerve growth factor (NGF), and transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) were analyzed in cultured human coronary endothelial cells (HCECs) exposed to hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R). The effects of antagomir-98-5p on myocardial I/R-induced microvascular dysfunction in vivo were evaluated. Target gene expression and activity were assessed.
Higher miR-98-5p levels were associated with compromised indices of microvascular reperfusion. In vitro experiments on HCECs showed that exposure to H/R significantly increased miR-98-5p levels. We identified NGF as a novel target of miR-98-5p. Further, antagomir-98-5p relieved microvascular dysfunction and enhanced the expression of NGF and TRPV1 in the rat myocardial I/R model.

Understanding An interaction with sTf assumes a greater significance for the development of safe and efficacious chelators for their removal from the blood stream. Here we report several 100 ns equilibrium MD simulations of Cm(III)- and Th(IV)-loaded sTf at various protonation states of the protein to explore the possibility of the two An ions release and speciation. The results demonstrate variation in protonation state of dilysine pair (K206 and K296) and the tyrosine (Y188) residue is necessary for the opening of Cm(III)-bound protein and the release of the ion. Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), characterized by inflammatory nodules, sinus tracts, and abscesses, has been linked to several factors, including immune dysfunction and obesity, which are thought to contribute to its development. Several follicular disorders have also been associated with Down syndrome (DS), a common chromosomal disorder, including HS, although studies on this topic are limited.
To characterize HS in Down syndrome patients and to further examine the association between HS and DS compared to HS patients without DS.
We systematically searched MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and CENTRAL electronic databases from their dates of conception to February 2020. Random-effects meta-analyses were performed analyzing (a) HS characteristics between DS and non-DS participants, and (b) prevalence or association between HS and DS compared to non-DS individuals.
Twelve studies were included in this systematic review, with a total of 358 participants presenting with both HS and DS. Pooled analysis of mean differences between DS and non-DS participants presenting with HS found a significantly younger age of HS symptom onset for DS patients (-6.24; 95% CI, -10.01--2.24). A meta-analysis examining the association between HS and DS found a significantly increased likelihood of HS in DS patients (OR 9.61; 95% CI, 5.70-16.20).
Our findings suggest an association between HS and DS, with DS patients suffering from an earlier onset of HS symptoms compared to non-DS patients.

The toxicity and health risks of mycotoxins have encouraged increased awareness and strict monitoring of these contaminants in agricultural by-products. In this paper, we developed and tested a sensitive, selective, and self-assembling immunochromatographic (IC) strip for on-site detection of ochratoxin A (OTA). We were able to demonstrate semi-quantitative and quantitative detection of OTA in agricultural by-product samples.
The optimized IC strip had a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.5 ng mL
OTA using the naked eye for semi-quantitative detection. When a digitized strip reader was used to achieve quantitative results, the LOD for OTA was reduced to 0.1 ng mL
with a linear detection range of 0.1-10 ng mL
. We also evaluated the specificity, stability, accuracy, and precision of the IC strip and demonstrated high performance in all of these areas. We then confirmed the ability of the IC strip to visually detect OTA contamination in authentic agricultural by-product samples from the markets in China. Furthermore, quantitative detection of OTA using the IC strip showed that the concentration of OTA ranged from 1.
