Five years after the launch of the first infliximab biosimilar, biologics have found their place in the treatment of chronic inflammatory conditions, but there are remaining questions. This is a review of the introduction of antibody biosimilars in Europe; the reasons for their success and how biosimilar hesitancy was quailed.

We provide an overview of the concepts of biosimilarity, extrapolation, and interchangeability, using examples in rheumatology and gastroenterology for illustration. A review of the evidence collected from switching studies using robust designs is included. Remaining questions such as 'inter-switching' are also discussed.

Biosimilars have democratized access to powerful medicines. Efficacy and safety studies provided reassuring data, but knowledge gaps persist. The availability of so-called 'bio-betters' might open new avenues and change clinical practice.

Resveratrol display's positive effects on follicle growth and development in preclinical studies while there is scantly information from clinical trials. The aim of this study was to evaluate the biological and clinical impact of a resveratrol-based multivitamin supplement on intracytoplasmatic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles.

A randomized, single-center controlled trial conducted at the University Center of Assisted Reproductive Technologies involving 101 women infertile women undergoing ICSI cycles was conducted. A pretreatment with a daily resveratrol based nutraceutical was administered to the Study Group; Control Group received folic acid. The primary outcomes were the number of developed mature follicles (>16 mm), total oocytes and MII oocytes recovered, the fertilization rate and the number of cleavage embryos/blastocysts obtained. Secondary endpoints were the duration and dosage of gonadotropins, the number of embryos for transfer, implantation, biochemical, clinical pregnancy rates, live birth and miscarriage rates.

A significantly higher number of oocytes and MII oocytes were retrieved in the Study Group than in Control Group (

 = .03 and

 = .04, respectively). A higher fertilization rate (

 = .004), more cleavage embryos/patient (

 = .01), blastocytes/patients (

 = .01) and cryopreserved embryos (

= .03) were obtained in the Study Group. No significant differences in biochemical or clinical pregnancy, live birth, and miscarriage rates were revealed, but a trend to a higher live birth rate was revealed in the Study Group.

A 3 months period of dietary supplementation with a resveratrol-based multivitamin nutraceutical leads to better biological effects on ICSI cycles.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, teleconsultations (TC) have been increasingly used in cancer care as an alternative to outpatient visits. We aimed to examine patient-related and cancer-specific characteristics associated with experiences with TC among patients with cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This population-based survey included patients with breast, lung, gastrointestinal, urological, and gynaecological cancers with appointments in the outpatient clinics, Department of Clinical Oncology and Palliative Care, Zealand University Hospital, Denmark in March and April 2020. Age- and sex-adjusted logistic regression analyses were used to study associations of sociodemographics, cancer and general health, anxiety, and health literacy with patients' experiences of TC in regards to being comfortable with TC, confident that the doctor could provide information or assess symptoms/side effects and the perceived outcome of TC.

Of the 2119 patients with cancer receiving the electronic survey, 1160 (55%) parti' different information needs in order not to increase social inequality in cancer.

Most patients reported positive experiences with TC, but in particular patients with anxiety and low health literacy, who were also the patients with fewest socioeconomic and health resources, felt less comfortable and confident with and were more likely to perceive the outcome negatively from this form of consultation. TC may be suitable for increasing integration into standard cancer care but it should be carefully planned to meet patients' different information needs in order not to increase social inequality in cancer.

Excessive exposure of skin to solar radiation is associated with greatly increased production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS, RNS) resulting in oxidative stress (OS), inflammation, immunosuppression, the production of matrix metalloproteinase, DNA damage and mutations. These events lead to increased incidence of various skin disorders including photoaing and both non-melanoma and melanoma skin cancers. The ultraviolet (UV) part of sunlight, in particular, is responsible for structural and cellular changes across the different layers of the skin. Among other effects, UV photons stimulate oxidative damage to biomolecules via the generation of unstable and highly reactive compounds. In response to oxidative damage, cytoprotective pathways are triggered. One of these is the pathway driven by the nuclear factor erythroid-2 related factor 2 (Nrf2). This transcription factor translocates to the nucleus and drives the expression of numerous genes, among them various detoxifying and antioxidant enzymesskin needs to be performed carefully.

This review summarizes the effects of UVB (280-315 nm) and UVA (315-400 nm) radiation on the Nrf2 signaling pathway in dermal fibroblasts and epidermal keratinocytes and melanocytes. The effects of natural compounds (pure compounds or mixtures) on Nrf2 activation and level as well as on Nrf2-driven genes in UV irradiated human skin fibroblasts, keratinocytes and melanocytes are briefly mentioned as well.HighlightsUVB radiation is a rather poor activator of the Nrf2-driven pathway in fibroblastsUVA radiation stimulates Nrf2 activation in dermal fibroblastsEffects of UVA on the Nrf2 pathway in keratinocytes and melanocytes remain unclearLong-term Nrf2 activation in keratinocytes disturbs their normal differentiationPharmacological activation of Nrf2 in the skin needs to be performed carefully.

The prognosis of pancreatic cancer is poor and new treatment strategies are urgently needed. To identify non-cancer drugs that could be re-purposed for cancer, we investigated the association between the use of selected drugs and cancer-specific mortality in a nationwide cohort of pancreatic cancer patients.

The study is based on linkage between the Cancer Registry of Norway and the Norwegian Prescription Database, comprising 2614 pancreatic cancer patients diagnosed between 2007 and 2014. We evaluated the association between use at diagnosis of a pre-defined list of non-cancer drugs, including metformin, antihypertensives, and statins, and pancreatic cancer-specific mortality, using Cox regression. Patients were defined as users of a particular drug if it was prescribed before diagnosis, and the prescription covered the date of diagnosis.

In total, 2096 (80.2%) patients died from pancreatic cancer; median survival was 6 months. Statin users (

= 621) had lower mortality (hazard ratio (HR) 0.86; 95% co statins and non-selective beta-blockers and reduced pancreatic cancer mortality, and add to the literature supporting the design of randomised clinical trials to evaluate those drugs in the management of pancreatic cancer.

Frailty is associated with morbidity and mortality in advanced cirrhosis. However, the information on the association between frailty and outcome in compensated cirrhosis is scarce. We aimed to explore the prognostic impact of frailty in compensated cirrhosis.

Compensated cirrhotic patients were prospectively enrolled. Frailty was defined by the Liver Frailty Index (LFI). Development of new hepatic decompensation (worsening ascites, portal hypertension-related bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, or acute kidney injury), unplanned hospitalization, and decompensation-free survival were recorded. Quality of life (QoL) was assessed by SF-36 questionnaire.

152 patients were included (MELD 9.2 ± 3.4, Child-Pugh A/B 84.9%/15.1%), and 24.3% were frail. By multivariable logistic regression analysis, age > 65 years, MELD score > 10, and Child-Pugh B were associated with frailty. learn more Compared to the robust group, pre-frail and frail patients had significantly higher cumulative 1-year probabilities of developing deding the development of decompensation, hospitalization, and impaired QoL.

This controlled study assessed whether there was a correlation between serum total testosterone levels and bladder cancer (BCa) in terms of tumor grade and stage as objective measures in adult men.

Our prospectively-designed study included 257 patients who were diagnosed with primary BCa and its surgery between January 2017 and January 2020. Hundred and forty patients who had surgery in the same period with TUR for prostate or endoscopic ureteral stone treatment were included in the study as a control group. All patients in the study and control groups were male. The age range of the patients was between 34 and 90 years old. In order to examine groups, fasting blood glucose, lipid profile, albumin, total testosterone, and vitamin D levels of all patients included in the study.

The relationship between tumor aggression and total testosterone level was investigated with a multinomial logistic regression model, where the control group was accepted as a reference, following adjustment for potential confounding variables, including age and serum albumin levels. Testosterone level was not found to be associated with any of the categories that determine tumor aggressiveness (

 > 0.05).

In the present study, there was no correlation between any categories that determine tumor aggressiveness of BCa and total testosterone levels in adult men. It is obvious that our findings should be supported and further investigations are needed.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) causes a range of different symptoms. Patients with MS (PwMS) have looked for alternative therapies to control their MS progress and treat their symptoms. Non-invasive therapeutic approaches such as massage can have benefits to mitigate some of these symptoms. However, there is no rigorous review of massage effectiveness for PwMS. The present systematic review aims to examine the effectiveness of different massage approaches on common MS symptoms, including fatigue, pain, anxiety, depression, and spasticity.

A systematic search of related trials was conducted in electronic databases including Cochrane Library, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, using search terms related to Multiple Sclerosis and massage therapy. The PEDro scale was used to evaluate the methodological quality of reviewed studies.

A total of 12 studies met the inclusion criteria. We rated 5 studies as fair and 7 studies as good. Fatigue was improved by different massage styles, such as reflexology, nonspecific therapeutic massage, and Swedish massage.
