Graphical abstract.Dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA) is an important process of nitrate reduction in the environment. The distribution of DNRA bacteria and the relationships with environmental factors in multistage constructed wetland were investigated in this study. The quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis showed that the abundance of DNRA bacteria at all sites ranged from 2.10 × 1010 to 1.10 × 1011 copies/g of dry sediments. The Anaeromyxobacter (belong to Deltaproteobacteria) was the most abundant DNRA bacteria at all sites. The Geobater known as DNRA bacteria was also identified in this study. The abundances of DNRA bacteria, denitrifying bacteria, and anammox bacteria were conspicuously negatively correlated with Eh and positively correlated with the NO3--N removal efficency by statistical analysis.Soil contamination caused by long-term application of metsulfuron-methyl and tribenuron-methyl has become an issue of increasing concern. In our previous study, strain Chenggangzhangella methanolivorans CHL1, capable of efficiently degrading sulfonylurea herbicides, was isolated. Here, the bioremediation potential of strain CHL1 was assessed for soil polluted with metsulfuron-methyl or tribenuron-methyl in a pot experiment. The growth parameters of waxy maize were measured on day 21 of the pot experiment. Additionally, the residues of metsulfuron-methyl and tribenuron-methyl in soils were analyzed, and the soil microbial community was investigated using a phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) method on days 1, 7, 14, and 21. The results indicated that strain CHL1 greatly accelerated the degradation of metsulfuron-methyl and tribenuron-methyl in soils. The degradation rates in the treatments inoculated with strain CHL1were all more than 91% after 7 days, significantly higher than the 25-36% degradation measured in non-inoculated treatments. Furthermore, strain CHL1 reduced the negative effects of tribenuron-methyl and metsulfuron-methyl on waxy maize growth, especially the primary root length. Moreover, inoculation with strain CHL1 also reduced the effects of tribenuron-methyl and metsulfuron-methyl on soil microbial biomass, diversity, and community structure. The present study demonstrates that strain CHL1 has great potential application to remediate soil contaminated with metsulfuron-methyl or tribenuron-methyl.A group of red-bellied piranha, Pygocentrus nattereri Kner, recently imported from Peru exhibited multifocal, cutaneous ulcerations with exposure of the underlying musculature. Skin scrapes yielded moderate numbers of myxospores morphologically consistent with Myxobolus Bütschli, 1882. Myxospores from these fish were morphologically and molecularly distinct from other myxobolids infecting piranha. Myxospores are pyriform to capsular with a rounded posterior and slightly rounded to tapering anterior aspect in valvular view. Myxospore bodies are 14.3-17.8 (mean 16.1) µm long and 7.6-10.3 (mean 8.9) µm wide. Polar capsules are symmetrical, slender, elongate, and measure 7.4-10.2 (mean 9.2) µm long and 2.1-3.7 (mean 3.0) µm wide. Sequence generated for the 18S rRNA gene had no direct matches to any sequence available on GenBank but demonstrated less than 89% nucleotide similarity to various published and unpublished Myxobolus spp. from Piaractus brachypomus (Cuvier) and Colossoma macropomum (Cuvier). This paper provides the morphological and molecular characterisation of Myxobolus dermatoulcerans n. sp. from red-bellied piranha and describes associated pathological lesions. The specific relationships between sad/low mood, irritability, inattention and spatial working memory (SWM) have not been systematically examined in young people with major depressive disorder with and without persistent depressive disorder. 313 medication naïve young people (aged 6-16 years) with active major depressive disorder (MDD) alone, persistent depressive disorder (DD) alone and comorbid active MDD and DD were identified. Standard multiple regression was used to investigate how well SWM components-Spatial Span, Strategy and Between Search Errors (BSE)-predict 'sad/unhappy', 'irritable' mood and 'Inattention'. Spatial Span (4% of the variance-decreased), Strategy and BSE (both 1% of the variance increased) all made independent significant contributions to 'Inattention' while having no independent association with 'sad/unhappy' or 'Irritable' mood. These findings support the independence of depressive cognitive impairment from the two main components of depressive mood. Improving SWM and attention via targeted management approaches may aid young people with these depressive disorders.Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) regulates mitotic checkpoints and cell division. PLK1 overexpression is reported in numerous cancers, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and is associated with poor prognosis. Volasertib is a selective, potent cell-cycle kinase inhibitor that targets PLK to induce mitotic arrest and apoptosis. This phase 1 trial investigated the maximum tolerated dose (MTD), safety, pharmacokinetics, and anti-leukemic activity of volasertib in combination with decitabine in AML patients aged ≥ 65 years. Thirteen patients were treated with escalating volasertib doses (3 + 3 design; 300 mg, 350 mg, and 400 mg) plus standard-dose decitabine. Dose-limiting toxicity was reported in one patient in cycle 1; the MTD of volasertib in combination with decitabine was determined as 400 mg. The most common treatment-emergent adverse events were febrile neutropenia, pneumonia, and decreased appetite. Objective response rate was 23%. The combination was well tolerated, and the adverse event profile was in line with previous findings.

Patients and staffs are endangered by different failure modes during clinical routine in radiation oncology and risks are difficult to stratify. We implemented the method of failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) via questionnaires in our institution and introduced an adapted scale applicable for radiation oncology.

Failure modes in physical treatment planning and daily routine were detected and stratified by ranking occurrence, severity, and detectability in aquestionnaire. Multiplication of these values offers the risk priority number (RPN). We implemented an ordinal rating scale (ORS) as acombination of earlier published scales from the literature. This scale was optimized for German radiation oncology. We compared RPN using this ORS versus use of arather subjective visual analogue rating scale (VRS).

Mean RPN using ORS was 62.3 vs. 67.5 using VRS (p = 0.7). Use of ORS led to improved completeness of questionnaires (91 vs. 79%) and stronger agreement among the experts, especially concerning failure modes during radiation routine. The majority of interviewed experts found the analysis by using the ORS easier and expected asaving of time as well as higher intra- and interobserver reliability.

The introduced rating scale together with aquestionnaire survey provides merit for conducting FMEA in radiation oncology as results are comparable to the use of VRS and the process is facilitated.

Post-finasteride syndrome (PFS) has been reported in a subset of patients treated with finasteride (an inhibitor of the enzyme 5alpha-reductase) for androgenetic alopecia. These patients showed, despite the suspension of the treatment, a variety of persistent symptoms, like sexual dysfunction and cognitive and psychological disorders, including depression. A growing body of literature highlights the relevance of the gut microbiota-brain axis in human health and disease. For instance, alterations in gut microbiota composition have been reported in patients with major depressive disorder. Therefore, we have here analyzed the gut microbiota composition in PFS patients in comparison with a healthy cohort.

Fecal microbiota of 23 PFS patients was analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and compared with that reported in ten healthy male subjects.

Sexual dysfunction, psychological and cognitive complaints, muscular problems, and physical alterations symptoms were reported in more than half of the PFS patients at the moment of sample collection. The quality sequence check revealed a low library depth for two fecal samples. Therefore, the gut microbiota analyses were conducted on 21 patients. The α-diversity was significantly lower in PFS group, showing a reduction of richness and diversity of gut microbiota structure. Moreover, when visualizing β-diversity, a clustering effect was found in the gut microbiota of a subset of PFS subjects, which was also characterized by a reduction in Faecalibacterium spp. and Ruminococcaceae UCG-005, while Alloprevotella and Odoribacter spp were increased compared to healthy control.

Gut microbiota population is altered in PFS patients, suggesting that it might represent a diagnostic marker and a possible therapeutic target for this syndrome.

In this study, we investigated the distribution of the anammox bacterial community in surface sediment from the Dongjiang River (riverine sediment, DJ) to the Pearl River Estuary (estuarine sediment, PRE) and then to the South China Sea (coastal sediment, SCS). The results revealed evident differences in the structural diversity of anammox bacteria in three different habitats. Candidatus Brocadia accounted for approximately 90% of the total anammox bacteria in DJ, conversely, Ca. Scalindua dominated in the SCS. Nevertheless, Ca. Scalindua, Ca. Brocadia and Ca. Kuenenia coexisted in the PRE. The qPCR results indicated that anammox bacterial 16S rRNA gene abundance ranged from 2.23 × 105 to 1.19 × 107 copies g-1 of wet weight, but no significant correlation was found between the abundances and environmental variables (p > 0.05). The relative abundances of Ca. Brocadia gradually decreased with increasing salinity, and Ca. Scalindua showed the opposite trend, suggesting that salinity was a crucial factor in sculpturing the community composition of anammox bacteria in natural environments. Ca. Brocadia should be able to live in freshwater ecosystems, but it can also tolerate a certain level of salinity. Ca. Scalindua was halophilic anammox bacterium and exists only in saline environments. Ca. Kuenenia could adapt to a wide range of salinity and preferred to live in high DIN level conditions according to our search. The distribution pattern of anammox bacteria may be the result of microbial migration and long-term adaptation to salinity.

Nematodes were found in the digestive tracts of 15 short-beaked echidnas Tachyglossus aculeatus (Shaw, 1792) collected from southwestern Australia between August 1964 and March 2020.

Specimens were prepared for microscopic examination as temporary wet mounts, measurements were made, figures prepared using a drawing tube and light micrographs taken. All nematodes were identified to at least genus level and a bootstrap analysis of the helminth community was carried out.

Two previously described species, one species identified to genus and one new nematode species were recovered, including Nicollina ridei (Nicollinidae), Parapharyngodon anomalus (Pharyngodonidae), Parastrongyloides sp. (Strongyloididae) and Echidnonema coronorum n. g., n. sp. (Subuluridae, Echidnonematinae n. sf.). Echidnonema coronorum n. GW0742 chemical structure sp. can be distinguished from all other subulurids in having a mouth encircled by six leaf-like elements separated by six small pointed elements. The buccal complex is also unique to this species and is composed of three parts, including an anterior buccal capsule and a posterior pharyngeal portion divided into two; the proximal part contains lobes which are ornamented with numerous irregular teeth.
