To investigate the effect of sulphur fertilizer on leaf biomass yield, critical sulphur concentration, sulphur requirement and uptake by Aloe vera L., a pot experiment was carried out following completely randomized design with six levels of sulphur viz., 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 80 kg ha-1 with three replications. The results of the study revealed that the growth attributes, leaf and gel yield, and sulphur uptake significantly improved with sulphur application and the best results were obtained from the application of 45 kg sulphur ha-1. On average, addition of sulphur enhanced the leaf biomass yield by 47.5% and sulphur use efficiency by 38% compared to control. The effect of sulphur on the growth parameters and their significant and positive correlations with yield signifies the importance of sulphur on the yield and quality of A. vera. The calculated minimum amount of sulphur for 80% leaf biomass production was 21.1 kg sulphur ha-1 with a critical leaf sulphur concentration of 0.23% in A. vera. Moreover, sulphur addition to soil substantially enhanced the economic returns of A. vera. High extraversion influenced both high engagements in social activities and perceived social supports, and then low depressive symptoms. High neuroticism predicted both low social engagements and social supports, and then increased depressive symptoms. While a full mediation was established between extraversion and depression, a partial one was found between neuroticism and depression. The total effect of neuroticism on depression surpassed that of extraversion. Psychotherapeutic interventions targeting depression from high neuroticism may aim frequent social engagements and seeking family and non-family supports.Gloydius caucasicus (NIKOLSKY, 1916) is a member of the Viperidae family in Iran. Comprehensive understanding of the toxigenic characteristics of snake venom is important for clinical monitoring of snakebite patients and effective therapy. We compared the toxic activities of venoms and the neutralization capacity of antivenoms produced with venoms from wild adult (WA) with long-term captive adult (LCA) of G. caucasicus in order to obtain more effective antivenom from LCA in therapy, and subsequently protect G. caucasicus from overharvesting for its venom, which poses a real threat of extinction for the species. Our results showed that LD50 of WA and LCA were 16.8 μg/dose and 17.7 μg/dose, respectively. Lower hemorrhagic and necrotic (p ≥ 0.05), and higher coagulative and edematogenic activities (p ≤ 0.05) were observed in WA compared with LCA venom. Also, captive-born neonates exhibited weaker toxic activities compared with captive adult snakes, which could be an age-related difference. Study data illustrated that effective capacity of LCA antivenom to neutralize the toxic activities of WA viper venom. According to the results, about 0.4-4 μl of LCA antivenom is required to neutralize the toxic activities of 1 μg of WA venom, indicating its efficacy in treatment of snakebites in humans. On this basis, it is recommended that capture of wild snakes for their venom be discontinued to reduce their future extinction risk.Intensive fish cultivation has a high incidence of infection, which is often controlled by administering antibiotics. Florfenicol (FF) is one of the two antimicrobial drugs permitted for aquaculture in Brazil. Due to their intensive use, potentially harmful effects on aquatic organisms are of great concern. In this sense, we investigated whether the presence of FF in cultivation water could change the health parameters of Nile tilapia. For this, we evaluated hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCHC) concentration, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), total plasma protein (TPP), number of circulating red blood cells and leukocytes, as lipid peroxidation levels, catalase activity and glutathione S-transferase activity of fish exposed to 11.72 mg L-1 of FF in water for 48 h. The fish were divided into two groups Nile tilapia in water with FF or without FF (control). Exposure to FF in cultivation water for a short period didn't change the hematological variables analyzed, but caused changes in liver ROS (Reactive oxygen species) markers of the Nile tilapia, which was revealed by lipid peroxidation levels, catalase activity, and glutathione S-transferase. The 48h exposure period was enough to induce oxidative stress in hepatocytes, causing cellular oxidative damage. In search to improve market conditions, this study aims to evaluate the feasibility of cross-hedging between electrical derivatives market and spot agricultural products in Colombia. This hypothesis is proposed, as Colombia depends upon hydro-electricity, an electricity source which is heavily influenced by climatic conditions, particularly the "El Niño" southern oscillation (ENSO). The prices of agricultural products are thus volatile, and subject to this phenomenon. ENSO is presumed to be an important link between these two markets. To contrast the hypothesis, the most commonly- methods in cross-hedging literature were employed to estimate hedge ratios OLS, Error Correction Models, and GARCH estimations. This last estimation was found to be the one with the best performance for hedge ratio estimation. Despite this, of 93 products analyzed, statistically significant relationships were found for only nine. In this work, a compact, low cost optical multichannel analyzer (OMA) system without a built-in temporal gating device and thus operated under a free running mode was used to investigate the characteristics of laser induced plasma. A Nd-YAG laser beam was used as the excitation source from several samples, namely, copper, zinc, and aluminum plates. The characteristics of the plasma emission produced under various experimental parameters, including the pulse energy, surrounding gas pressure, and collection fiber position, were examined. It was found that the essential features of emission spectra can be investigated even using the ungated, compact OMA system even without a highly temporally resolved gating system. The plasma emission characteristics critically depend on the experimental parameters. A quality emission spectrum, featuring a high intensity with a low background, can be obtained using the ungated, compact OMA system under optimized conditions, namely, a pulse energy of approximately 8 mJ, a surrounding gas pressure of 10 Torr, and a collection fiber position of more than 5 mm above the surface of the sample.
