The use of discrete nodes also converts assays from nodes to edges, creating a network model of the study and more accurately representing the experimental process. With these changes to SEEK, users are able to collect and organize the information that researchers need to improve reusability and reproducibility as well as make data and metadata available to the scientific community through public repositories.Core facilities have a ubiquitous and increasingly valuable presence at research institutions. Although many shared cores were originally created to provide routine services and access to complex and expensive instrumentation for the research community, they are frequently called upon by investigators to design protocols and procedures to help answer complex research questions. For instance, shared microscopy resources are evolving from providing access to and training on complex imaging instruments to developing detailed innovative protocols and experimental strategies, including sample preparation techniques, staining, complex imaging parameters, and high-level image analyses. These approaches require close intellectual collaboration between core staff and research investigators to formulate and coordinate plans for protocol development suited to the research question. Herein, we provide an example of such coordinated collaboration between a shared microscopy facility and a team of scientists and clinician-investigators to approach a complex multiprobe immunostaining, imaging, and image analysis project investigating the tumor microenvironment from human breast cancer samples. Our hope is that this example may be used to convey to institute administrators the critical importance of the intellectual contributions of the scientific staff in core facilities to research endeavors.

Presenteeism is defined as the behavior of people who insist on attending work despite complaints of ill health that should prompt rest and absence from work. Due to the heavy workloads and irreplaceable duties of the nursing service, nurses are a typical representative group suffering from presenteeism. Although more scholars have recently begun focusing on presenteeism, an abundant number of studies have tended to focus on presenteeism's external objective factors. There is, thus, a lack of studies based on variables related to the intra-individual initiative. This study aimed to address this gap by exploring the relationship between job crafting and nurses' presenteeism from the perspective of the individual internal initiative. Furthermore, this study also aimed to examine job embeddedness' mediating effect and job irreplaceability's moderating effect on presenteeism.

A total of 900 nurses from a 3A-graded hospital in Henan Province were invited to participate in the online study in October, November,nd enriching the occupational fields of included participants to conduct a more in-depth discussion on the relationship between job crafting and nurses' presenteeism.

This study explored job crafting's influence mechanism on nurses' presenteeism, which is beneficial to providing effective suggestions for managing and preventing the incidence of nurses' presenteeism. Future research should consider expanding the sampling area and enriching the occupational fields of included participants to conduct a more in-depth discussion on the relationship between job crafting and nurses' presenteeism.Toxocariasis, a neglected parasitic zoonosis with worldwide distribution, has been reportedly associated to different risk factors in several epidemiological and meta-analysis studies. However, dog and cat contact (environmental and animal exposure) as isolated associated risk factor for children and adults remains to be fully established. Accordingly, the present meta-analysis has aimed to directly assess dog and cat contact for toxocariasis seropositivity in under-18 and adult persons, using a survey strategy of PubMed/Medline, Embase, Scopus and Scielo Databases, from January 2009 to December 2021. selleck kinase inhibitor A meta-analysis model of random effects was applied to estimate odds ratio (OR) with 95% Confidence Interval (CI). The statistical heterogeneity was evaluated by the Cochran Q-Test and I2 values. A total of 41 transversal studies (n = 20.515 individuals) from different geographic regions (classified by the World Health Organization) were included herein. In overall, 1,882/13,496 (13.95%; 95% IC = 13.4-14.5) youngers and 513/7.019 (7.3%; 95% CI = 6.7-7.9) adults in contact with dogs or cats were serologically reagent for anti-Toxocara antibodies. Association of dog and cat contact was observed only in youngers, with both dogs (OR = 1.53; p less then 0.0001) and cats (OR = 1.64; p = 0.0001). In addition, association of dog and contact and serology was statistically significant in populations of Americas (OR = 1.37; 95% CI = 1.1-1.7), Middle East (OR = 2.9; 95% CI = 1.6-5.1) and West Pacific (OR = 1.6; 95% IC = 1.3-1.9). In conclusion, contact with dogs and cats, particularly by younger individuals and in regions such as Americas, Middle East, and West Pacific, should be always a public health concern for toxocariasis. Moreover, dogs and cats should be periodically dewormed, washed and hair cleaned prior to contact with youngers. Finally, robust statistical results herein may serve as basis for future strategies and preventive measures for safer dog and cat contact.

Ghana like other African countries is facing multiple health threats due to expansion of urban populations. Globally, the urbanization phenomenon has received considerable attention and modest steps have been undertaken to address it. Ghana is stalling on implementation of policies and interventions targeted at alleviating the menace.

This review examined research evidence, interventions, and policies relating to urbanization and threats to health and well-being of people living in Ghana. The review focused on three areas including urbanization threats to health and well-being, health risks associated with urbanization, and interventions and policies.

The search spanned from year 2000 to February 2022 covering documents related to urbanization, health, and well-being. Databases used for the search include African Journals Online, Annual Reviews (Biomedical, Life & Physical sciences, Social Sciences), BioMedCentral, BioOne, BLDS digital library, Cambridge University Press, ClinicalKey, CINAHL, Univers that expose populations to health risks could be reduced through commitment to implementation, surveillance and monitoring of policies and interventions. Communities and individuals must be equipped to take control of their health and well-being.

The functional causal single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with susceptibility to

Pneumonia (MPP) have scarcely been identified. In this study, we aimed to analyze the association between the functional expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL)-SNPs and the risk of MPP.

First, we identified reported genes associated with MPP from the human disease database, MalaCards. After investigating multiple databases, we systematically selected seven functional eQTL-SNPs (rs2070874, rs360720, rs8032531, rs4316, rs4353, rs7258241, and rs2250656). Finally, the selected eQTL-SNPs were genotyped using the TaqMan genotyping technology, and compared between 100 children with MPP and 178 healthy controls.

We found that three eQTL-SNPs (rs8032531 in

and rs4316 and rs4353 in

) were significantly associated with susceptibility to MPP. Joint analysis of the three eQTL-SNPs revealed that the risk of MPP increased with an increase in the number of risk alleles present. Plasma protein expression levels of CD276 and ACE were distinctively higher in children with MPP than in healthy children (CD276

< 0.001; ACE

= 0.001).

Functional eQTL-SNPs in

and

may affect the susceptibility to MPP. The risk of developing MPP is higher in patients harboring a greater number of unfavorable alleles of the aforementioned SNPs.

This workforce was comprised primarily of redirected civil servants with diverse educational and professional backgrounds. The purpose of this evaluation was to understand whether the weeklong, remote course developed to train California's CI/CT workforce (i.e., Virtual Training Academy) adequately prepared trainees for deployment. From May 2020 to February 2021, 8,141 individuals completed the training. A survey administered ~3 weeks post-course assessed two measures of overall preparedness self-perceived interviewing proficiency and self-perceived job preparedness. Bivariate analyses were used to examine differences in preparedness scores by education level, career background, and whether trainees volunteered to join the COVID-19 workforce or were assigned by their employers. There were no significant differences in preparedness by education level. Compared to trainees from non-public health backgrounds, those from public health fields had higher self-perceived interviewing proficiency (25.1 vs. 23.3, p less then 0.001) and job preparedness (25.7 vs. 24.0, p less then 0.01). Compared to those who were assigned, those who volunteered to join the workforce had lower self-perceived job preparedness (23.8 vs. 24.9, p = 0.02). While there were some statistically significant differences by trainee characteristics, the practical significance was small ( less then 2-point differences on 30-point composite scores), and it was notable that there were no differences by education level. Overall, this evaluation suggests that individuals without bachelor's degrees or health backgrounds can be rapidly trained and deployed to provide critical disease investigation capacity during public health emergencies. To substantiate the beneficial effects of switching from cigarette smoking to heated tobacco products (HTP), this study conducted a time-trend analysis using data from the Japanese Medical Data Center (JMDC) database. Specifically, we assessed hospitalization numbers for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations and acute ischemic heart disease (IHD) before and after the introduction of HTPs in the Japanese market. This study replicated a previous study using a different Japanese real-world data source (Medical Data Vision). We retrieved the number of hospitalizations associated with the International Classification of Diseases-10 codes for COPD and IHD from 2010 to 2019-5 years before to 4 years after introducing HTPs in the Japanese market-from the JMDC database. Then, we used interrupted time-series analyses to test the hypothesis that the introduction of HTPs is associated with a reduction in hospitalizations for COPD (all codes), COPD exacerbation, COPD exacerbation plus lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI), and IHD, adjusting for age, sex, seasonality, and flu vaccination rates. Analysis of all available data from the JMDC database revealed a significant reduction in the number of hospitalizations for COPD (all codes; P = 0.0001) and IHD using Diagnosis Procedure Combination data on causative disease flags (P less then 0.00001). We also observed a non-significant reduction in hospitalizations for COPD plus LRTI as well as IHD after HTP introduction in Japan. This study confirmed the findings of our previous study where a decrease in hospitalizations due to COPD exacerbation after the introduction of HTPs in Japan was also shown. Nevertheless, these findings warrant further research to evaluate the impact of HTPs on the health of populations in other countries where these products have been introduced.
