RESULTS (1) With decreasing cutoff velocity, tSNR and PWS increased. However, undesired tissue labeling occurred at low cutoff velocities (≤ 5.4 cm/s). (2) Labeling gradient orientation had little effect on tSNR and PWS. (3) For single VSASL high signal appeared in the kidney pedicle at PLD less then 800 ms, and tSNR and PWS decreased with increasing PLD. For dual VSASL, maximum tSNR occurred at PLD = 1200 ms. Average cortical RBF measured with dual VSASL (264 ± 34 mL/min/100 g) at a cutoff velocity of 5.4 cm/s, and feet-head labeling was slightly lower than with pseudo-continuous ASL (283 ± 55 mL/min/100 g). CONCLUSION With well-chosen sequence parameters, tissue labeling induced by respiratory motion can be minimized, allowing to obtain good quality RBF maps using planning-free labeling with dual VSASL. © 2020 The Authors. Upon treatment with m-CPBA, 12 of these sulfanyl compounds were further oxidized to their sulfonyl analogs. All the 26 synthetic compounds were examined for in vitro activity against Leishmania (V.) braziliensis and Leishmania (L.) mexicana, and some of them displayed an efficient antileishmanial activity. Among the compounds tested, the catecholic derivative 2-[2-(2-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)ethyl]sulfanylethyl 3,4-dihydroxybenzoate (9a, LC50  = 13 and 11 µM) and the pyrogallolic derivative 2-[2-(2-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)ethyl]sulfanylethyl 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate (9b, LC50  = 4 and 1 µM) were the most active ones against the two Leishmania strains. © 2020 Deutsche Pharmazeutische Gesellschaft.Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare hematopoietic tumor that mainly involves extranodal sites, including the intestinal tract, skin, soft tissues and other organs. It is well known as an aggressive neoplasm that shows a poor response to therapy. However, a subset of patients with resectable disease has shown a favorable outcome with surgical treatment. Primary cutaneous HS is exceedingly rare and, to date, its long-term prognosis has thus not been well described. Here, we highlight two cases of primary cutaneous HS that showed long-term survival. Case 1 was a healthy 47-year-old woman who found a 12-mm tumor on her forehead. Case 2 was a 66-year-old woman, under follow up of a myxoid liposarcoma in her leg, who presented with a 25-mm tumor in her hypothenar eminence. Histologically, the tumors in both cases had a smooth outline with proliferating atypical tumor cells that showed histiocytic differentiation as revealed by immunohistochemistry with antibodies to CD68 (KP-1) and lysozyme in case 1; and CD68, lysozyme and CD163 in case 2. Tumor cells in case 1 had a monotonous appearance. After complete resection, cases 1 and 2 have survived for 10 and 4 years, respectively, without recurrence. To date, such patients are relatively long follow-up cases of survival from HS and highlight how a clear outline of the primary cutaneous HS tumor may be associated with its resectability and be an important factor in the assessment of its curability. © 2020 Japanese Dermatological Association.Studies have shown that performance-dependent monetary rewards facilitate visual perception. However, no study has examined whether such a positive effect is limited to the rewarded task or may be generalized to other tasks. In the current study, two groups of people were asked to perform two visual perception tasks, one being a reward-relevant task and the other being a reward-irrelevant task. For the reward-relevant task, the experimental group received performance-dependent monetary rewards, whereas the control group did not. For the reward-irrelevant task, both groups were not rewarded. The two tasks were randomly intermixed trial by trial (Experiment 1) or presented block by block (Experiment 2) or session by session (Experiments 3a, 3b, and 3c). Results showed that performance-dependent monetary rewards improved participants' performance on the relevant task in all experiments and impaired their performance on the irrelevant task in Experiments 2, 3a, 3b, and 3c. These results suggested that monetary rewards might incur a cost on reward-irrelevant tasks. Finally, the benefit of monetary rewards disappeared when they were no longer provided during the final session. This is the first study that reveals both the bright and dark sides of the performance-dependent monetary rewards in visual perception. © 2020 Cognitive Science Society, Inc.BACKGROUND The updated standard classification and pathophysiology of rosacea have provided clear and meaningful evaluation parameters; however, differentiating rosacea from sensitive skin (SS) remained an obstacle for dermatologists around the world, especially in China. Herein, we aimed to find a better characteristic to distinguish rosacea from SS by using reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM). METHOD Forty rosacea patients and 143 healthy subjects were recruited in this study. Firstly, a SS questionnaire and a lactic acid sting test were conducted among healthy subjects. Next, two major groups were divided out, including a SS group (40 subjects) and a normal skin control group (NS, 60 subjects). The cutaneous structures of face and fossa cubitalia were imaged by RCM. RESULTS We found that more parakeratosis, honeycomb pattern, spongiform edema, and dermal papillae (P  less then  .05) in rosacea patients than that of the NS group, whereas there were no significant differences, were found in rosacea patients and the SS group. Strikingly, we found that rosacea patients have a larger depth of honeycomb pattern than that of SS subjects (P  less then  .05). But, the epidermal thickness of rosacea did not differ from that of SS groups. There was also no significant difference of epidermal thickness and honeycomb structure depth between rosacea patients and NS group. CONCLUSION From the RCM images of parakeratosis, honeycomb pattern, spongiform edema, and dermal papillae, we found that RCM might be a faithful tool to distinguish rosacea from NS group. The depth of honeycomb structure of SS was more superficial than rosacea patients, whereas no significant difference between rosacea patients and NS group. RCM may provide a new method for evaluating the development of rosacea although it failed to distinguish rosacea and SS effectively. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons A/S. In this scenario, to identify and explore potential undesired events a risk assessment is necessary. Part of this involves assigning the probability of occurrence of events, which usually is accomplished by a frequentist approach. However, in many cases, this approach is not possible due to unavailable or nonrepresentative data. This is the case of the TPIW that even though an expressive accident history is available, a frequentist approach is not suitable due to differences between current operational conditions and those met in the past. Therefore, a subjective assessment is an option as allows for working independently of the historical data, thus delivering more reliable results. In this context, this article proposes a methodology for assessing the probability of occurrence of undesired events based on expert opinion combined with fuzzy analysis. This methodology defines a criterion to weighting the experts and, using the fuzzy logic, evaluates the similarities among the experts' beliefs to be used in the aggregation process before the defuzzification that quantifies the probability of occurrence of the events based on the experts' opinion. Moreover, the proposed methodology is applied to the real case of the TPIW and the results obtained from the elicited experts are compared with a frequentist approach evidencing the impact on the results when considering different interpretations of the probability. © 2020 Society for Risk Analysis. This paper aims to investigate the constituent phytochemicals and biological activities of six Lithocarpus litseifolius (Hance) Chun (L. litseifolius) cultivars. Processed by UPLC-MS/MS and untargeted metabolomics analysis software (MS-DIAL and MS-FINDER), components of different L. litseifolius cultivars were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. By conducting a comprehensive analysis of spectra, MS/MS fragmentation, and retention time, 40 compounds (including 6 phenolic glycosides and 34 flavonoids) were identified rapidly and accurately. Moreover, the total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), antioxidant, antimicrobial effects, and pheochromocytoma (PC12) cell viability of different L. litseifolius varieties were evaluated. Purple small leaf (PSL) was found to be the most superior variety with the highest antioxidant activities (8.27, 10.09, and 10.80 mg TE/g for DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays, respectively), broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, and lowest cell cytotoxicity. The results showed that these bioactivities were closely related to phytochemicals among the six cultivars. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS L. litseifolius is well known as an important folk drink in the Southern China folklore for its specific efficacy in preventing diabetes. However, there is still a paucity of information on L. litseifolius, as other active components and bioactivities of it remain to be investigated. The wide range of flavonoids discovered in L. litseifolius provides abundant natural health-promoting agents for further applications in medicine and functional food. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.INTRODUCTION Ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase-L3 (UCH-L3) is a deubiquitinase, which have a role in oncogenesis. This study was aim to explore the biological function of UCH-L3 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). MATERIALS AND METHODS Bioinformatics analysis was used to detect UCH-L3 expression in NSCLC tissues and normal lung tissues, and to analyze the relationship between UCH-L3 expression and survival of patients. qRT-PCR and western blotting assays were used to detect UCH-L3 expression in NSCLC tumor tissues and adjacent normal tissues. CCK-8 assay was performed to examine the effect of UCH-L3 on NSCLC cell proliferation. Flow cytometry assay was conducted to examine the effect of UCH-L3 on NSCLC cell cycle and apoptosis. RESULTS The expression of UCH-L3 in NSCLC tissues was markedly higher than in normal lung tissues, and high expression of UCH-L3 was positively associated with poor survival of patients. UCH-L3 knockdown significantly inhibited the proliferation of NSCLC cells, whereas UCH-L3 overexpression had the opposite effect. Moreover, UCH-L3 promoted NSCLC cells proliferation via accelerating cell cycle and inhibiting cell apoptosis. CONCLUSIONS UCH-L3 is upregulated in NSCLC and positively associated with the poor survival, and its expression contributes to NSCLC cell proliferation by accelerating cell cycle and inhibiting cell apoptosis.
