The current study aims to test the ideas that parental self-efficacy is associated with parenting style, parents' help-seeking orientation from teachers, and subjective well-being. Based on the literature background presented, two hypotheses were examined First, autonomy help-seeking orientation, the authoritative parenting style, and high subjective well-being would be positive predictors of parental self-efficacy. Second, dependent help-seeking orientation and non-authoritative parenting styles are negative predictors of parental self-efficacy. One hundred and thirty-two parents of school-age children answered questionnaires measuring the research and background variables. A multivariate regression analysis found that the independent variables explain about 53% of the variance of the parental self-efficacy scores, with subjective well-being and the authoritative parenting style being uniquely associated with high parental self-efficacy, and the permissive parenting style being uniquely associated with low parental self-efficacy. The present study focuses on parental self-efficacy as an important parental component, demonstrating the personal characteristics of parents that may affect their perceived efficacy, and offers an integrative portrait of factors that can describe parents' attitudes and behavior toward their competence as parents. Implications for intervention are discussed. We analyzed the relationships between family functionality, caregiver burden, perceived social support, and asthma management self-efficacy of 300 Turkish mothers who provide care to pediatric asthma patients in this cross-sectional sampling study. The mean age of the caregiver mothers was 31.82 ± 5.08. Our study results showed that the participants had above moderate but insufficient perceived social support and asthma management self-efficacy and they were moderately satisfied with caregiver burden and family functioning. As mothers' perceived social support increased, their satisfaction with family functioning and asthma management self-efficacy also increased but their caregiver burden decreased. Additionally, the caregiver mothers had a sufficiently high level of self-confidence in caregiving to children with asthma, and the caregiver mothers who received training or more information about asthma believed that they were able to manage asthma to a great degree. The researchers conducted regression analysis and they found that biological and social factors and the degree of caregiving burden were significantly associated with asthma management self-efficacy levels. The multivariate biopsychosocial model accounted for 37.4% of the total variance in asthma management self-efficacy. Parent asthma management self-efficacy levels of the caregiver mothers are largely linked to their biological and psychosocial characteristics.Antiretroviral therapy effectively prevents sexual and vertical transmission of HIV. Yet, some women living with HIV report having unmet needs for reproductive health care. This study measured the prevalence of women discussing reproductive goals with any current healthcare provider and assessed the effect of the current HIV care provider's gender on such discussions and whether comfort was a mediator. We analysed baseline and 18-month survey data from 533 women living with HIV enrolled in the Canadian HIV Women's Sexual and Reproductive Health Cohort Study (CHIWOS) (2013-2017), a community-based participatory study, restricting the analysis to participants aged 16-45 years. We used causal mediation analysis to estimate direct and indirect effects of the gender of one's HIV care provider on reproductive discussions, incorporating mediating and interaction effects of women having any provider with whom they felt comfortable discussing reproductive goals. Between the baseline and 18-month follow-up surveys, 34.3% (183/533) of women discussed their reproductive goals with a healthcare provider. Having a woman HIV care provider was associated with a 1.18 excess relative risk (ERR) of discussion (95%CI 0.15, 2.20). The mediating effect of comfort was primarily explained by the fact that those participants with women providers felt more comfortable discussing their reproductive goals compared to participants with men providers, accounting for 66% (95%CI 32%, 99%) of the total effect. HDAC inhibitor Findings support that HIV provider gender affects women's comfort and whether they discuss reproductive goals, which must be acknowledged and addressed in care delivery.
Coffee is a highly popular beverage worldwide, containing caffeine which is a central nervous system stimulant.
We examined whether habitual coffee consumption is associated with differences in brain volumes or the odds of dementia or stroke.
We conducted prospective analyses of habitual coffee consumption on 398,646 UK Biobank participants (age 37-73 years), including 17,702 participants with MRI information. We examined the associations with brain volume using covariate adjusted linear regression, and with odds of dementia (4,333 incident cases) and stroke (6,181 incident cases) using logistic regression.
There were inverse linear associations between habitual coffee consumption and total brain (fully adjusted β per cup -1.42, 95% CI -1.89, -0.94), grey matter (β -0.91, 95% CI -1.20, -0.62), white matter (β -0.51, 95% CI -0.83, -0.19) and hippocampal volumes (β -0.01, 95% CI -0.02, -0.003), but no evidence to support an association with white matter hyperintensity (WMH) volume (β -0.01, 95% CI -0.07, 0.05). The association between coffee consumption and dementia was non-linear (
= 0.0001), with evidence for higher odds for non-coffee and decaffeinated coffee drinkers and those drinking >6 cups/day, compared to light coffee drinkers. After full covariate adjustment, consumption of >6 cups/day was associated with 53% higher odds of dementia compared to consumption of 1-2 cups/day (fully adjusted OR 1.53, 95% CI 1.28, 1.83), with less evidence for an association with stroke (OR 1.17, 95% CI 1.00, 1.37,
= 0.055).
High coffee consumption was associated with smaller total brain volumes and increased odds of dementia.
High coffee consumption was associated with smaller total brain volumes and increased odds of dementia.
