Robots have become a popular educational tool in secondary education, introducing scientific, technological, engineering and mathematical concepts to students all around the globe. In this paper EUROPA, an extensible, open software and open hardware robotic platform is presented focusing on teaching physics, sensors, data acquisition and robotics. EUROPA's software infrastructure is based οn Robot Operating System (ROS). It includes easy to use interfaces for robot control and interaction with users and thus can easily be incorporated in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and robotics classes. EUROPA was designed taking into account current trends in educational robotics. An overview of widespread robotic platforms is presented, documenting several critical parameters of interest such as their architecture, sensors, actuators and controllers, their approximate cost, etc. Finally, an introductory STEM curriculum developed for EUROPA and applied in a class of high school students is presented.Food and beverage marketing is considered a determinant of childhood obesity. Sponsorship is a marketing technique used by the food industry to target young people when they are engaged in sports. The purpose of this study was to document the frequency and nature of food company sponsorship of children's sports clubs in Ottawa, Canada. Using national data on sports participation, the five most popular sports among Canadian children aged 4-15 years were first selected for inclusion in the study and relevant sports clubs located in Ottawa (Canada) were then identified. Sports club websites were reviewed between September and December 2018 for evidence of club sponsorship. Food company sponsors were identified and classified by food category. Of the 67 sports clubs identified, 40% received some form of food company sponsorship. Overall, sports clubs had 312 commercial and noncommercial sponsors. 4-PBA in vivo Food companies constituted 16% of total sponsors and were the second most frequent type of sponsor after sports-related goods, services, and retailers (25%). Fast food restaurants and other restaurants accounted for 45% and 41% of food company sponsors, respectively. Food company sponsorship of children's sports clubs is frequent with some promoting companies or brands associated with unhealthy foods. Policymakers should consider restricting the sponsorship of children's sports clubs by food companies that largely sell or promote unhealthy foods. Two widely-cited alternative hypotheses propose geological localities and biochemical mechanisms for life's origins. The first states that chemical energy available in submarine hydrothermal vents supported the formation of organic compounds and initiated primitive metabolic pathways which became incorporated in the earliest cells; the second proposes that protocells self-assembled from exogenous and geothermally-delivered monomers in freshwater hot springs. These alternative hypotheses are relevant to the fossil record of early life on Earth, and can be factored into the search for life elsewhere in the Solar System. This review summarizes the evidence supporting and challenging these hypotheses, and considers their implications for the search for life on various habitable worlds. It will discuss the relative probability that life could have emerged in environments on early Mars, on the icy moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and also the degree to which prebiotic chemistry could have advanced on Titan. These environments will be compared to ancient and modern terrestrial analogs to assess their habitability and biopreservation potential. Origins of life approaches can guide the biosignature detection strategies of the next generation of planetary science missions, which could in turn advance one or both of the leading alternative abiogenesis hypotheses.Accidents in high-danger industries in China occur frequently and cause loss of life, injuries, and economic loss. One of the most important reasons causing severe safety situations is the lack of knowledge on macro industry risk in the practice and academic field in China. In order to solve this problem, the method to calculate group risk and individual risk, concerning risk aversion, is discussed, selected, and improved. The group risks and individual risks of five high-danger industries from 2004 to 2016 are calculated. Relative risk indices between five high-danger industries during the 11th and 12th Five-Year Guideline for National Economic and Social Development (FYP) are determined. The results show that there are some differences between group risk and individual risk of high-danger industries. The reasons for differences and the connections with published interventions are discussed. Through discussion, two different ways to reduce group risk and individual risk are identified, which could help supervisors inspect the actual effectiveness of safety policies, measures, and interventions and choose a better way to reduce risk and ensure work safety in industries.Informal caregivers provide vital support for older adults living in the community with chronic illnesses. The purpose of this study was to assess the psychosocial status of informal caregivers of community-dwelling adults over an eight-year period. Informal caregivers of adult care-recipients were identified from Wave 1 of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) cohort. Multivariate regression analysis models were constructed to assess the association between participant's psychosocial characteristics and informal caregiving. Multilevel modelling explored the psychosocial changes between caregivers and non-caregivers over eight years. 1375 informal caregivers and 2750 age-matched non-caregivers were analyzed. Self-reported loneliness (Odd Ratio (OR) 0.26; 95% confidence intervals (CI) 0.01-0.51) and relationship status (OR 0.36; 95% CI 0.16-0.46) were independently associated with caregiving. Caregivers were more socially isolated with less holidaying abroad (OR 0.51; 95% CI 0.35-0.66), attendance to church (OR 0.30; 95% CI 0.11-0.49), or charity groups (OR 0.35; 95% CI 0.14-0.55). On multilevel analysis, over time (eight-years), caregivers reported greater loneliness (p less then 0.01), change in relationship status (p = 0.01) and reduced control, autonomy, and pleasure (p ≤ 0.01) compared to non-caregivers. Given the deleterious effects caregiving can place on health and wellbeing, further interventions are required to improve these psychosocial factors.
