4 times compared with Seed-Ped program. Seed-GSc was the most cost-effective strategy of implementing GS in tea-breeding programs. It introduces GS at the seedlings stage to increase selection accuracy early in the program and reduced the generation interval to 2 yr. The Seed-Ped program outperformed PS by 1.2 times and could be implemented where it is not possible to use GS. Our results indicate that GS could be used to improve genetic gain per unit time and cost even in cost-constrained tea-breeding programs. The primary challenge for n-type small-molecule organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) is to improve their electron mobilities and thus the key figure of merit μC*. Nevertheless, few reports in OECTs have specially proposed to address this issue. Herein, we report a 10-ring-fused polycyclic π-system consisting of the core of naphthalene bis-isatin dimer and the terminal moieties of rhodanine, which features intramolecular noncovalent interactions, high π-delocalization and strong electron-deficient characteristics. We find that this extended π-conjugated system using the ring fusion strategy displays improved electron mobilities up to 0.043 cm2  V-1  s-1 compared to our previously reported small molecule gNR, and thereby leads to a remarkable μC* of 10.3 F cm-1  V-1  s-1 in n-type OECTs, which is the highest value reported to date for small-molecule OECTs. This work highlights the importance of π-conjugation extension in polycyclic-fused molecules for enhancing the performance of n-type small-molecule OECTs.

2 TECHNICAL EFFICACY STAGE 3.

2 TECHNICAL EFFICACY STAGE 3.Operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy identified that the concentration of Fe2+ species in the working state-of-the-art Pt-FeOx catalysts quantitatively correlates to their preferential carbon monoxide oxidation steady-state reaction rate at ambient temperature. Deactivation of such catalysts with time on stream originates from irreversible oxidation of active Fe2+ sites. The active Fe2+ species are presumably Fe+2 O-2 clusters in contact with platinum nanoparticles; they coexist with spectator trivalent oxidic iron (Fe3+ ) and metallic iron (Fe0 ) partially alloyed with platinum. The concentration of active sites and, therefore, the catalyst activity strongly depends on the pretreatment conditions. Fe2+ is the resting state of the active sites in the preferential carbon monoxide oxidation cycle.Solar driven interfacial vapor generation is considered to be an effective strategy to alleviate the impact of water crisis on human activities. However, great efforts of researchers have been devoted to improving the solar steam generation efficiency, while less attention has been paid to the long-term stability of evaporators. Herein, we proposed a robust core-shell structured evaporator prepared by a simple fast curing assisted spray-coating method. Owing to the inherent superelasticity of melamine-formaldehyde (MF) sponge, the finely designed novel 3D core-shell structure, and the quick curing of branched polyethyleneimine (BPEI) and 5-pentaerythritol pentaacrylate (5Acl) induced special knot shaped photothermal coating, the as-obtained evaporator (CB/MF) performed well in vapor generation with a high water evaporation rate of 2.082 kg m-2 h-1 under 1 sun illumination, and the evaporation efficiency reached 123.5%, which is comparable to the state-of-the-art artificial solar evaporator. Even in strict application situations, such as long-term recycling testing for 40 h, 500 compression-release cycles (20%, 40% or 60%), sonication for 12 h, or shaking for 30 h, the water evaporation rate of the obtained evaporator remains at a high level of above 2.00 kg m-2 h-1. Additionally, the evaporator shows effective purification toward high-concentration brine, acid-base solutions, simulated seawater, dye wastewater, and heavy metal wastewater, as well as reliable pure water, providing an outdoor application. With the advantages of a high evaporation rate, stable long-term vapor generation, and effective purification toward various non-potable water sources, we believe that the fabricated core-shell structured CB/MF evaporator is a promising candidate for practical solar steam generation. In the process of bone tissue regeneration, regulation of osteogenesis-angiogenesis coupling is of great importance. Therefore, dimethyloxallyl glycine (DMOG) is loaded by nanoscale zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-8 (ZIF-8) to obtain a drug-loading system that can promote osteogenesis-angiogenesis coupling. Characterization of the drug-loading nanoparticles (DMOG@ZIF-8) reveals that DMOG is successfully loaded into ZIF-8 by two different methods, and the DMOG@ZIF-8 is prepared using the one-pot method (OD@ZIF-8) achieves higher loading efficiency and longer release time than those prepared using the post-loading method (PD@ZIF-8). In vitro studies found that DMOG@ZIF-8 significantly enhances the migration, tube formation, and angiogenesis-related protein secretion of human umbilical vein endothelial cells as well as the extracellular matrix mineralization, alkaline phosphatase activity, and osteogenesis-related protein secretion of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. Moreover, OD@ZIF-8 nanoparticles are more efficient than PD@ZIF-8 nanoparticles in induction of osteogenesis-angiogenesis coupling. Then, in vivo cranial critical defect model shows that the addition of OD@ZIF-8 significantly promotes vascularized bone formation as indicated by the results including microcomputed tomographic, histological and immunofluorescence staining, and so on. Taken together, loading ZIF-8 with DMOG may be a promising solution for critical-sized bone defect reconstruction and the one-pot method is preferred in the preparation of such drug-loading system.Traditional alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), which are implemented via the pairwise coupling of triboelectrification, electrostatic induction, and electrostatic discharge, have been widely explored in various fields. In this work, the comprehensive integration and synergetic utilization of triboelectrification, electrostatic induction, and electrostatic discharge in a single device for the first time is realized, achieving a dual-functional TENG (DF-TENG) to produce an AC/DC convertible output. Distinguishing from the conventional TENGs, the coupling of triboelectrification and electrostatic discharge enables charge circulation between the dielectric tribo-layers, while electrostatic induction realizes charge transfer in the external circuit. This novel energy conversion mechanism has been proven to be applicable to a variety of materials, including polymers, fabrics, and semiconductors. The output mode of the DF-TENG can be tuned by adjusting the slider motion state, and its constant output current and power density can reach 1.51 mA m-2 Hz-1 and 398 mW m-2 Hz-1 , respectively, which are the highest records reported for constant DC-TENGs to date. This work not only provides a paradigm shift to achieve AC/DC convertible output, but it also exhibits high potential for extending the TENG design philosophy.Switchable metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) change their structure in time and selectively open their pores adsorbing guest molecules, leading to highly selective separation, pressure amplification, sensing, and actuation applications. The 3D engineering of MOFs has reached a high level of maturity, but spatiotemporal evolution opens a new perspective toward engineering materials in the 4th dimension (time) by t-axis design, in essence exploiting the deliberate tuning of activation barriers. This work demonstrates the first example in which an explicit temporal engineering of a switchable MOF (DUT-8, [M1 M2 (2,6-ndc)2 dabco]n , 2,6-ndc = 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate, dabco = 1,4diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane, M1 = Ni, M2 = Co) is presented. The temporal response is deliberately tuned by variations in cobalt content. A spectrum of advanced analytical methods is presented for analyzing the switching kinetics stimulated by vapor adsorption using in situ time-resolved techniques ranging from ensemble adsorption and advanced synchrotron X-ray diffraction experiments to individual crystal analysis. A novel analysis technique based on microscopic observation of individual crystals in a microfluidic channel reveals the lowest limit for adsorption switching reported so far. Differences in the spatiotemporal response of crystal ensembles originate from an induction time that varies statistically and widens characteristically with increasing cobalt content reflecting increasing activation barriers.Passive rehydration of immobilized pH gradient (IPG) strips for two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) has, to our knowledge, never been quantitatively evaluated to determine an ideal rehydration time. Seeking to increase throughput without sacrificing analytical rigor, we report that a substantially shorter rehydration time is accomplished when surface area of IPG strips is increased via microneedling. Rehydration for 4 h, post microneedling, provides comparable results to overnight rehydration in final analyses by 2DE, while also shortening the overall protocol by 1 day.Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a major cause of visual impairment and severe vision loss worldwide, while the currently available treatments are often unsatisfactory. Previous studies have demonstrated both inflammation and oxidative-stress-induced damage to the retinal pigment epithelium are involved in the pathogenesis of aberrant development of blood vessels in wet AMD (wet-AMD). Although antivascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy (e.g., Ranibizumab) can impair the growth of new blood vessels, side effects are still found with repeated monthly intravitreal injections. Here, an injectable antibody-loaded supramolecular nanofiber hydrogel is fabricated by simply mixing betamethasone phosphate (BetP), a clinic anti-inflammatory drug, anti-VEGF, the gold-standard anti-VEGF drug for AMD treatment, with CaCl2 . Upon intravitreal injection, such BetP-based hydrogel (BetP-Gel), while enabling long-term sustained release of anti-VEGF to inhibit vascular proliferation in the retina and attenuate choroidal neovascularization, can also scavenge reactive oxygen species to reduce local inflammation.
