Furthermore, there were few differences within the diversity comparison groups (women vs. men, URM fellows vs. non-URM fellows, etc.). Suggestions for improvement of URE programs are proposed.Although the teaching methods of the blended learning and BOPPPS (bridge-in, objective, preassessment, participatory learning, postassessment, and summary) model are proven to be successful and highly effective at improving the academic knowledge of the students, respectively, it is unclear whether blended learning combined with the BOPPPS model (BL-BOPPPS) could work well in an introduction course of health services management (HSM) for the health management students in China. The study investigated the perceptions and effects of implementing the BL-BOPPPS model on student learning outcomes in an introduction course of HSM. The intervention group consisted of 55 students introduced to the BL-BOPPPS model, while the control group consisted of 54 students who received a conventional lecture. After the end of course, the effectiveness of teaching was self-assessed with questionnaires by all students, and examination scores for the two groups were compared. The students' satisfaction levels of BL-BOPPPS teaching strategy were up to 81.8% in the intervention group. Compared with the control group, the intervention group showed significant elevation of perception scores of skills (P = 0.001), initiative (P = 0.002), self-control (P = 0.008), self-efficacy (P = 0.001), motivation (P = 0.004), and the academic performance (P = 0.001). The BL-BOPPPS model could stimulate the enthusiasm and interest of health students; boost students' skills, initiative, and motivation in learning; and improve the self-directed learning ability, academic performance, and teaching quality. The findings provide a basis of evidence for the promotion of the BL-BOPPPS model in various disciplines in Chinese colleges and universities.Acute hemorrhagic edema of infancy (AHEI) is a cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis presenting with purpura, ecchymosis, fever, and edema. Pediatricians must effectively differentiate AHEI from other diseases that have similar presentations but are more severe in order to treat appropriately without overutilizing expensive, unnecessary diagnostic tests. In this article, we describe a case of a 6-month-old previously well male who presented to our institution with a worsening rash and fever. In this case, the patient's age and benign clinical manifestations without systemic involvement favored the diagnosis of AHEI over more serious conditions. This case is a valuable example of the clinical findings of AHEI and the effectiveness of conservative therapy once a diagnosis is made for pediatricians, especially emergency and urgent care physicians.Nowadays, demand for products which beyond the overall nutritional value have a feature that protects the consumers health, have increased. Several studies have proved fruit juices can become suitable carrier or medium for probiotic organisms. Therefore the aim of our study was to investigate the possibility of the probiotication of sour cherry juice by lactic acid fermentation with probiotic starter culture. In the fermentation 9 Lactobacillus strains were used and two cultivars of sour cherry as raw material. The pH adjustment and supplement of nutrients were necessary and to reach the recommended probiotic cell count we also investigated the effect of dilution of sour cherry juice. Due to the optimized combination of the pH adjustment, supplementation and dilution, the investigated strains reached the desired 9 log cfu mL-1 cell density in sour cherry juices, however a significant difference was observed between the number of viable cells of some Lactobacillus strains. In the Újfehértói fürtös sour cherry L. acidophilus La-5 (9.43 log cfu mL-1), while in the Petri species L. acidophilus 150 (9.60 log cfu mL-1) resulted in the highest probiotic cell number. The lactic acid fermentation can increase the phenolic compounds, but in case of the bioactive compounds significant differences were not general between the strains.Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis spores can survive processing temperatures used in the thermal processes of high-acid foods. Therefore, this study investigated the thermal inactivation of B. subtilis and B. licheniformis spores in pineapple juice at different temperatures (85-100°C) and soluble solids (SS, 11-30°Brix). The quality of juices and microbial loads after the thermal treatments during storage at 4 °C for 35 days was then checked. A linear decrease in D-value was observed with increasing temperature of treatment. Furthermore, the D-values determined in pineapple juice were D90°C=13.2 ± 0.5 mins, D95°C = 6.8 ± 0.9 mins and D100°C = 2.1 ± 1.7 mins for B. subtilis spores, and D85°C = 16.6 ± 0.4 mins, D90°C = 7.6 ± 0.5 mins and D95°C = 3.6 ± 1.5 min, for B. licheniformis. Generally, the susceptibility of the bacteria to soluble solid change was affected by the interaction between temperature, SS and strain. Selumetinib In addition, pasteurization processes of ≥95°C for ≥33.8 mins was needed to ensure a recommended 5-log reduction of B. subtilis spores and limit vitamin C degradation of pineapple juice within three-week of storage at 4 °C.Till today, the globe is still struggling with the newly emerging infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and known as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). It has resulted in multiple fatalities from SARSs all around the world. A year after the global pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported more than 79 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and over 1.7 million deaths, making it one of the worst and most difficult pandemics encompassed in the modern history. The ongoing triad of escalating infections, mortality, and economic loss has urgently called for recognizing SARS-CoV-2 cell entry mechanisms as a crucial step in the initial stages of infection and to which possible interventional strategies should be targeted. To mediate host cell infections, Coronaviruses utilize the immunogenic studded spikes glycoproteins on its surface as a key factor for attachment, fusion, and entrance to host cells. Herein, we shed the light on a potential strategy involving disruption of SARS-CoV-2 S protein interaction with host cell receptors through design of neutralizing antibodies targeting receptor binding domain in S1 subunit, small peptide inhibitors, peptide fusion inhibitors against S2, host cell angiotensin converting enzymes 2 (ACE2), and protease inhibitors, aiming to pave the way for controlling viral cell entrance.
