Bivalve mollusks accumulate diarrhetic shellfish toxins (DSTs) from toxigenic microalgae, thus posing a threat to human health by acting as a vector of toxins to consumers. In bivalves, free forms of DSTs can be esterified with fatty acids at the C-7 site to form acyl esters (DTX3), presumably a detoxification mechanism for bivalves. However, the effects of esterification of DSTs on fatty acid metabolism in mollusks remain poorly understood. In this study, mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) were fed the DST-producing dinoflagellate Prorocentrum lima for 10 days followed by an additional 10-days depuration in filtered seawater to track the variation in quantity and composition of DST acyl esters and fatty acids. A variety of esters of okadaic acid (OA) and dinophysistoxin-1 (DTX1) were mainly formed in the digestive gland (DG), although trace amounts of esters also appeared in muscle tissue. A large relative amount of OA (60%-84%) and DTX1 (80%-92%) was esterified to DTX3 in the visceral mass (referred to as fication of DSTs and fatty acid dynamics in bivalve mollusks. In this paper, several experiments were carried out to study the environmental behavior and influencing factors of glyphosate (PMG) in peach orchard ecosystem. The results of field experiments showed that PMG and its metabolite aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) were detected in peach tree leaves and peach tree fruits, although PMG was only sprayed on the soil. The residues of PMG and AMPA in peach tree leaves were ~0.1 mg/kg and ~0.5 mg/kg and in peach tree fruits were ~0.01 mg/kg and 0.07-0.11 mg/kg, respectively. GSK-3008348 antagonist By conducting a series of laboratory simulation experiments, the environmental factors affecting the degradation of PMG were screened and evaluated. The results showed that PMG metabolized much faster in loess soil than red soil and black soil (with the DT50 of 11.6 days, 62.4 days, and 34.1 days, respectively). By analyzing the basic properties of the soil, we investigated the effects of pH, moisture content, organic matter (exogenous biochar) and ambient temperature using orthogonal experiments, and the results were further confirmed by microbial experiment. The results showed that alkaline conditions (pH = 7.8/9), high water content (25%) and microorganisms could promote the degradation of PMG. Sterile soil environment had a negative impact on the metabolic behavior of PMG to AMPA.Freezing cooled-transported semen allows veterinarians and breeders to collect and process the semen of stallions on farm, and then ship the semen to a semen freezing center. There, however, is a lack of standardization of shipping and freezing protocols. The objectives were to optimize and simplify protocols to freeze cooled-shipped semen. In Experiment 1, cooled-transported semen was centrifuged at room temperature or 5 °C before freezing. Sperm variables (motility, membrane integrity, acrosome integrity, membrane fluidity) were evaluated before and after freezing. Centrifugation temperature had no effect on post-thaw semen quality. In Experiment 2, cooled-transported semen was centrifuged at room temperature and cryopreserved in three semen freezing extenders. With use of the improved modified French formula, there was less post-thaw total and progressive motility compared with use of Botucrio or the improved lactose-EDTA formula (P less then 0.0001). Semen cryopreserved in the improved modified French formula also had a lesser percentage of sperm with intact membranes compared with lactose-EDTA, and a greater percentage of sperm with capacitation-like changes compared with Botucrio (P less then 0.0001). In Experiment 3, semen diluted in each extender was frozen conventionally or placed directly in a -80 °C ultra-freezer. Freezing in the ultra-freezer resulted in a lesser post-thaw sperm motility, but not membrane and acrosome integrity and capacitation-like changes. In conclusion, centrifugation and addition of freezing extender to cooled transported semen can be performed at room temperature or 5 °C. The Botucrio and lactose-EDTA formula are recommended for conventional cryopreservation of cooled-transported stallion semen as compared with the modified French formula.

Regional variation in pharmacy-dispensed naloxone rates could create access disparities that undermine the effectiveness of this approach. We explored individual and public health unit (PHU)-level determinants of regional variation in naloxone distribution through the Ontario Naloxone Program for Pharmacies.

We conducted a population-based study between April 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018. We calculated age- and sex-standardized pharmacy-dispensed naloxone rates for the 35 Ontario PHUs, and identified determinants of these rates using generalized estimating equations negative binomial regression.

The age- and sex-standardized pharmacy-dispensed naloxone rate in Ontario was 5.5 (range 1.8-11.6) kits per 1000 population. Variables associated with higher naloxone dispensing rates included opioid use disorder history [rate ratio (RR) 2.27; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.75-2.96], opioid agonist therapy (RR 11.17; 95% CI 7.15-17.44), and PHU opioid overdose rate (RR 1.09 per 10 deaths; 95% CI 1.06-1.13). Pharmacy-dispensed naloxone rates were lower in rural areas (RR 0.83; 95% CI 0.73-0.94) and among individuals dispensed one (RR 0.72; 95% CI 0.65-0.79), two to five (RR 0.67; 95% CI 0.54-0.84) or 6-10 (RR 0.92; 95% CI 0.74-1.14) opioids in the prior year relative to those receiving no opioids.

Pharmacy-dispensed naloxone programs are important components of a public health response to the opioid overdose crisis. We found considerable variation in pharmacy-dispensed naloxone rates that could limit program effectiveness, particularly in rural settings with limited access to health and harm reduction services..
