The world's population explosion creates a need for natural resources for energy, which will become a significant contributor to global climate change. As we all know, carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the most critical elements of the global greenhouse gas effect. CO2 capture and storage innovations have piqued researchers' attention in recent decades. Compared to other methods, membrane separation has some positive performance in CO2 capture. CO2 capture with membrane separation using enhanced ionic liquids (ILs) is described in this review. ILs have made an appearance in CO2 capture work as the potential additive, and companies and academics have been interested in CO2 separation for the past two decades. This article comprehensively analyzes the current modern approach in ILs and IL-based membranes for gas separation processes. Based on the latest literature and performance data, this work provides a complete compressive examination of types of ILs and IL-supported membrane performances. ILs for CO2 capture were also explored, and IL-based membranes for different ILs were also studied. This study emphasizes the supremacy of novel ILs for CO2 capture in membrane separation.Myeloblastosis (MYB) family, the largest plant transcription factor family, has been subcategorised based on the number and type of repeats in the MYB domain. In spite of several reports, evolution of MYB genes and repeats remains enigmatic. Brassicaceae members are endowed with complex genomes, including dysploidy because of its unique history with multiple rounds of polyploidisation, genomic fractionations and rearrangements. The present study is an attempt to gain insights into the complexities of MYB family diversity, understand impacts of genome evolution on gene families and develop an evolutionary framework to understand the origin of various subcategories of MYB gene family. We identified and analysed 1129 MYBs that included 1R-, 2R-, 3R- and atypical-MYBs across sixteen species representing protists, fungi, animals and plants and exclude MYB identified from Brassicaceae except Arabidopsis thaliana; in addition, a total of 1137 2R-MYB genes from six Brassicaceae species were also analysed. Comparativeong closely related species. Micro-synteny analysis of genomic segments revealed high conservation of genes that are immediately flanking the surrounding tandemly organised 2R-MYBs along with instances of local duplication, reorganisations and genome fractionation. In summary, polyploidy, dysploidy, reshuffling and genome fractionation were found to cause loss or gain of 2R-MYB genes. The findings need to be supported with functional validation to understand gene structure-function relationship along the evolutionary lineage and adaptive strategies based on comparative functional genomics in plants.Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is an anomaly characterized by a defect in the diaphragm, leading to the passage of intra-abdominal organs into the thoracic cavity. Herein, the presented work analyzes the global gene expression profiles in nine CDH and one healthy newborn. All of the patients had left posterolateral (Bochdalek) diaphragmatic hernia, operated via an abdominal approach, and stomach and bowels in the thorax cavity. Some patients also had additional anomalies. A total of 560 differentially regulated genes were measured. Among them, 11 genes showed significant changes in expression associated with lung tissue, vascular structure development, and vitamin A metabolism, which are typical ontologies related to CDH etiology. Among them, SLC25A24 and RAB3IL1 are involved in angiogenesis, HIF1A and FOXC2-AS1 are related with the alveolus, MAGI2-AS3 is associated with the diaphragm, LHX4 and DHH are linked with the lung, and BRINP1, FZD9, WNT4, and BLOC1S1-RDH5 are involved in retinol. Besides, the expression levels of some previously claimed genes with CDH etiology also showed diverse expression patterns in different patients. All these indicated that CDH is a complex, multigenic anomaly, requiring holistic approaches for its elucidation.Tea (Camellia sinensis), having anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and free radical scavenging properties, may be beneficial to prevent the symptoms of neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this present study, field experiments using the productive tea clone (TV25) with four nutrient management treatments were conducted during 2015 to 2017 in the research farm of Agricultural and Food Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. The four nutrient management treatments were no application of fertilizer (control), organic fertilizer (OF), inorganic fertilizer (IF), and integration of OF and IF (IF + OF). The contents of different catechins of tea leaves grown under these treatments were measured using High Performance Liquid Chromatography. Tea leaf samples of these treatments were fed to the intracerebroventricular (ICV) colchicine administered rats. The animal study was double-blinded and randomized. Assessment of anxiety status was done for the rat model in an elevated open field with a novel object in two intervals (14-day and 21-day study). Anxiolytic behaviour with the lower corticosterone (CORT) level (82 ng/ml) was observed in ICV colchicine administered rat models of AD. After feeding of organically and inorganically grown tea extract (10, 20, and 30 mg/kg) for 14 days and 21 days, it was found that the anxiolytic behaviour decreased with the increased concentration of serum CORT. However, organic tea showed greater increase in CORT level (216.1 ng/ml) as compared to inorganic tea (214 ng/ml). Thus, this study showed organic tea may act as a favourable agent or adjuvant in the improvement of the anxiolytic behaviour in rat model of AD.Xylopic acid (XA) is a kaurene diterpene which naturally exists in African plants such as Xylopia aethiopica. It has been established to exhibit acute and chronic anti-inflammatory activities from our earlier studies. This current work sets out to shed light on the potential molecular target(s) of xylopic acid. Selection of investigated targets (NF-κB, Nrf2 and PTP1B) was based on an unbiased approach, using the SPiDER in silico prediction tool, and a candidate approach, examining well-known anti-inflammatory targets. Reporter gene assays were used to test for altered NF-κB and Nrf2 activities in transfected HEK or CHO cells, respectively, and immunoblot and flow cytometric analyses examined protein expression of the Nrf2/NF-kB target genes HO-1 and VCAM-1 in HUVEC. An effect of XA on PTP1B activity assay was studied using an in vitro enzyme assay with recombinant human enzyme and pNPP as substrate as well as by looking at insulin receptor phosphorylation in HepG2 cells. XA at 30 µM significantly (p less then 0.001) inhibited the NF-κB-dependent reporter gene expression and enhanced activation of Nrf2 in a concentration-dependent manner when compared to the control. XA also marginally increased HO-1 protein expression levels while expression of VCAM-1 was reduced to 70% in XA-treated endothelial cells. However, XA did not show any sign of inhibition of PTP1B or a related phosphatase. Our findings suggest that the anti-inflammatory mechanism of XA entails the inhibitory effect on NF-κB and an increased activity of Nrf2, accompanied by increased expression of HO-1 and reduced expression of VCAM-1.Preoperative embolisation is a commonly performed adjunct to microsurgical excision of brain arteriovenous malformations (bAVMs), with aims such as lessening the technical difficulty of the microsurgical procedure, reducing operative time, decreasing blood loss, and improving patient functional outcomes. We aim to perform a systematic review of randomised trials and cohort studies evaluating preoperative embolisation of bAVMs published between 01 January 2000 and 31 March 2021 and appraise its role in clinical practice. A MEDLINE search was performed, and articles reporting on outcomes following preoperative embolisation, as an adjunct to microsurgery, were eligible for inclusion. PRISMA reporting and Cochrane Handbook guidelines were followed. The primary outcome measure was the risk of complications associated with preoperative embolisation. The study was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42021244231). Of the 1661 citations, 8 studies with 588 patients met predefined inclusion criteria. No studies specifically compared outcomes of surgical excision of bAVMs between those with and without preoperative embolisation. Spetzler Martin (SM) grading was available in 301 cases. 123 of 298 (41⋅28%) patients presented with haemorrhage. Complications related to embolisation occurred in 175/588 patients (29.4%, 95% CI 19.6-40.2). Permanent neurological deficits occurred in 36/541 (6%, 95% CI 3.9-8.5) and mortality in 6/588 (0.41%, 95% CI 0-1.4). This is the first systematic review evaluating preoperative embolisation of bAVMs. Existing studies assessing this intervention are of poor quality. Associated complication rates are significant. Based on published literature, there is currently insufficient evidence to recommend preoperative embolisation of AVMs. Further studies are required to ascertain if there are benefits of this procedure and if so, in which cases.
Following bariatric surgery, patients can develop non-specific symptoms self-described as hypoglycemia. However, confirming hypoglycemia can be technically challenging, and therefore, these individuals are frequently treated empirically. This study aimed to describe what diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic interventions patients referred for post-bariatric surgery hypoglycemia undergo.
Retrospective observational cohort study of patients with a history of bariatric surgery was evaluated for post-bariatric surgery hypoglycemia in a tertiary referral center from 2008 to 2017. A total of 60/2450 (2.4%) patients who underwent bariatric surgery were evaluated in the Department of Endocrinology for hypoglycemia-related symptoms. The majority were middle-aged women without type 2 diaycemia was confirmed in the minority of patients. Even without establishing a diagnosis of hypoglycemia, dietary changes were a helpful strategy for symptom management for most patients.Gold (Au) mining area is known to be one of the major sources of toxic elements; however, the potential risks of toxic elements from abandoned Au mines to the surrounding river basin districts and human exposure pathways to toxic elements need to be clarified. In this study, the distribution and mobilities of nine toxic elements (As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Sb, Zn, Cr, Ni and V) in Kesennuma City, Tohoku Region in Japan, a typical Au-mining district with several river basins, were studied through a geochemical survey (including element total concentrations and water-/acid-leaching concentrations determinations, as well as GB calculations), and environmental assessment on these elements in soil, river sediment, and river water samples from the study area. The contamination evaluation by index of geo-accumulation (Igeo) and enrichment factor (EF) suggested that As, Cu, Ni and Sb enrichments were greatly observed in the vicinity of the abandoned Au mines; moreover, calculated GB upper values for Cu in the river sediment surpass that of Tohoku Region.
