Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd on behalf of British Dietetic Association.BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The objective was to determine the frequency, demographic and clinical correlates [such as age, sex, Parkinson's disease (PD) severity and dopaminergic treatment] of impulse control disorder (ICD) symptoms and related behaviors in patients with PD with (PD-D) and without (PD-ND) dementia. METHODS We analyzed historical data from a national, multi-center, cross-sectional database and assessed ICDs and related behaviors with the Scale for Evaluation of Neuropsychiatric Disorders in Parkinson's Disease administered as a semi-structured interview to patients with PD-D (n = 85) and PD-ND (n = 444) and their informants. RESULTS Dopamine agonist therapy use was common and similar in the two groups (78.8% in PD-D vs. 82.9% in PD-ND), but ICDs (23.5% vs. 13.3%, P = 0.02), hobbyism-punding (32.9% vs. 10.6%, P  less then  0.001) and dopaminergic medication abuse (8.2% vs. 3.2%, P = 0.03) were more common in the PD-D group. CONCLUSIONS The finding that ICDs and related behaviors are more common in patients with PD frequently treated with dopamine agonists who also have comorbid dementia suggests that the neural substrates associated with PD dementia may also predispose to development of compulsive behaviors. © 2020 European Academy of Neurology.Sensory aversion is essential for avoiding prospective dangers. We studied the chemical perception of aversive compounds of different gustatory modalities (salty, bitter) in the haematophagous bug, Rhodnius prolixus. Over a walking arena, insects avoided a substrate embedded with 1M NaCl or KCl if provided with water as an alternative. However, no preferences were expressed when both salts were opposed to each other. A pre-exposure to amiloride interfered with the repellency of NaCl and KCl equally, suggesting that amiloride-sensitive receptors are involved in the detection of both salts. Discriminative experiments were then performed to determine whether R. prolixus can distinguish between these salts. An aversive operant conditioning involving either NaCl or KCl modulated the repellency of the conditioned salt, but also of the novel salt. Repellency levels of both salts were rigid to a chemical pre-exposure to any of both salts. When gustatory modalities were crossed by presenting as a choice NaCl and a bitter molecule as caffeine (Caf), no innate preferences were expressed. Aversive operant conditionings with either NaCl or Caf rendered unspecific changes in the repellency of both compounds. A chemical pre-exposure to Caf modulated the response to Caf but not to NaCl, suggesting the existence of two independent neural pathways for the detection of salts and bitter compounds. Overall results suggest that R. prolixus cannot discriminate molecules of the same gustatory modality (i.e. salty), but can distinguish between salty and bitter tastes. Crystals of the compound grown from toluene are of the solvated species [(η 6 -tol)K 2 MgA' 4 ] ( 1 •2(tol)), a trimetallic monomer with both bridging and terminal (η¹) allyl ligands. When recrystallized from hexanes, the unsolvated 1 forms a 2D coordination polymer, in which the Mg is surrounded by three allyl ligands. Two of them are η¹-bonded (Mg-C = 2.206(3) and 2.235(4) Å) and also π-coordinated to K + cations. The third allyl is terminal and η³-bonded (Mg-C = 2.375(4)-2.446(4) Å; the C-C bond lengths differ by only 0.028 Å, indicating virtually complete electron delocalization. This is an unprecedented coordination mode for an allyl ligand bound to Mg. Density functional theory calculations indicate that in isolation, an η³-allyl configuration on Mg is energetically preferred over the corresponding η 1 - (σ-bonded) arrangement, but the Mg must be in a low coordination environment for it to be experimentally realized. We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of low-dose rescue tirofiban regimen during MT for Chinese acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. METHODS We derived patients from the ANGEL study, a multi-centric, prospective registry study that included AIS patients underwent MT owing to proximal large-artery occlusion from June 2015 to December 2017. The patients included were dichotomized into tirofiban and non-tirofiban group according to whether rescue tirofiban was performed during MT. Safety outcomes (symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage [sICH], total ICH and distal embolization) and efficacy outcomes (artery recanalization and functional outcomes at three-month follow-up) were compared between groups using logistic regression analysis. RESULTS A total of 662 patients were included in this study, wherein 230 (34.7%) were in tirofiban group. No significant differences of safety outcomes on sICH, total ICH, distal embolization and efficacy outcomes on artery recanalization, three-month functional independence were observed between tirofiban and non-tirofiban group either in the entire cohort, anterior circulation stroke (ACS) or posterior circulation stroke (PCS) patients (p>0.05 for all groups). However, low-dose rescue tirofiban was significantly correlated with three-month mortality reduction for PCS patients (adjusted hazard ratio= 0.35 [0.14-0.92], p=0.03). CONCLUSIONS Low-dose rescue tirofiban during MT was not associated with increased risk of sICH, ICH, and distal embolization for AIS patients, and maybe correlated with three-month mortality reduction for PCS.
