The correct Fig. 2a is shown below.Retinal degeneration (RD) is one of the dominant causes of irreversible vision impairment and blindness worldwide. However, the current effective therapeutics for RD in the ophthalmologic clinic are unclear and controversial. In recent years, extensively investigated stem/progenitor cells-including retinal progenitor cells (RPCs), embryonic stem cells (ESCs), induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs)-with proliferation and multidirectional differentiation potential have presented opportunities to revolutionise the ultimate clinical management of RD. Herein, we provide a comprehensive overview on the progression of clinical trials for RD treatment using four types of stem/progenitor cell-based transplantation to replace degenerative retinal cells and/or to supplement trophic factors from the aspects of safety, effectiveness and their respective advantages and disadvantages. In addition, we also discuss the emerging role of stem cells in the secretion of multifunctional nanoscale exosomes by which stem cells could be further exploited as a potential RD therapy. This review will facilitate the understanding of scientists and clinicians of the enormous promise of stem/progenitor cell-based transplantation for RD treatment, and provide incentive for superior employment of such strategies that may be suitable for treatment of other diseases, such as stroke and ischaemia-reperfusion injury.The U.S. National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) introduced the research domain criteria (RDoC) initiative to promote the integration of information across multiple units of analysis (i.e., brain circuits, physiology, behavior, self-reports) to better understand the basic dimensions of behavior and cognitive functioning underlying normal and abnormal mental conditions. Along those lines, this study examined the association between peripheral blood gene expression levels and emotional and behavioral problems in school-age children. Children were chosen from two age- and sex-matched groups those with or without parental reports of any prior or current psychiatric diagnosis. RNA-sequencing was performed on whole blood from 96 probands aged 6-12 years who were medication-free at the time of assessment. Module eigengenes were derived using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Associations were tested between module eigengene expression levels and eight syndrome scales from parent ratings on the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL). Nine out of the 36 modules were significantly associated with at least one syndrome scale measured by the CBCL (i.e., aggression, social problems, attention problems, and/or thought problems) after accounting for covariates and correcting for multiple testing. Our study demonstrates that variation in peripheral blood gene expression relates to emotional and behavioral profiles in children. If replicated and validated, our results may help in identifying problem or at-risk behavior in pediatric populations, and in elucidating the biological pathways that modulate complex human behavior.BACKGROUND Breast cancer is becoming a common disease in women. It progresses slowly and may recur after a long time. Therefore, when a tumor is found in the chest of a patient with a history of breast cancer, an immediate concern is whether it is a primary tumor or a metastatic tumor. However, mediastinal metastasis is extremely unlikely to occur before lung metastasis, and breast cancer is not likely to have a solitary mediastinal metastasis. Additionally, patients should not undergo invasive procedures unnecessarily, so careful consideration is required. CASE REPORT We present 2 cases. In case 1, a 48-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer had a mediastinal tumor. Based on imaging findings, cystic thymoma was suspected. Thoracoscopic intraoperative rapid biopsy showed a lymphocyte-predominant tumor tissue; therefore, the tumor was resected via a median sternotomy. The final pathological diagnosis was breast cancer metastasis. In case 2, a 47-year-old woman who underwent breast cancer resection 15 years earlier was referred for upper limb edema. Based on imaging findings, a left medial vein occlusion due to mediastinal tumor was diagnosed. Our experience in case 1 suggested that a biopsy alone should be performed first. A tumor biopsy was performed through a small transverse neck incision in case 2, and the final diagnosis was metastatic breast cancer of the mediastinum. CONCLUSIONS In patients with a suspected primary mediastinal tumor on imaging, the possibility of a metastatic tumor should be considered if they have a history of breast cancer, regardless of how long in the past it was.BACKGROUND This study aimed to confirm the correlations among hip extension range of motion, hip extension asymmetry, pain intensity, disability index, and compensatory lumbar movement in patients with nonspecific chronic low back pain. MATERIAL AND METHODS Of 66 patients with nonspecific chronic low back pain and limited hip extension, 59 met the inclusion criteria and were enrolled in the study. Pain intensity, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), hip range of motion, compensatory lumbar extension, and compensatory lumbar rotation of the subjects were assessed. Pain was measured using a numeric pain rating scale (NPRS), and hip extension range of motion and compensatory lumbar movement were evaluated using a digital dual inclinometer (Dualar IQ, JTech Medical, United States). Correlation analysis was used to analyze the data. CX-5461 supplier RESULTS A strong correlation was observed among hip extension asymmetry, pain intensity, and disability index (P0.05). CONCLUSIONS The results of this study showed that hip extension asymmetry might be a more critical factor than hip extension range of motion.
