These associations persisted after adjusting for a variety of county-level demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. Other county-level characteristics, such as the shares of Black and Hispanic residents, were associated with reduced distancing at various points during the study period.

These results highlight the importance of dynamic socioeconomic and political gradients in preventive behavior and imply the need for nimble policy responses.

The aim of the study was to assess the histomorphological quality of testicular biopsies using Davidson's fluid (DF) as fixative and compare it to standard 10% neutral buffered formalin. Concurrent testicular biopsies from the same testis from patients undergoing microsurgical testicular sperm exploration (m-TESE) were separately fixed in DF and formalin and processed for histological examination. Histological parameters including sloughing of cells, cytoplasmic shrinkage of seminiferous tubular cells, nuclear chromatin detail, cytoplasmic graininess and overall clarity of morphological detail were graded on a scale of 0-4 (0, none; 1, minimal; 2, slight; 3, moderate; 4, marked). The effect of DF on biopsy diagnoses was assessed by comparison with corresponding formalin fixed biopsy diagnoses. Eighty-seven testicular biopsies from 27 patients were examined. DF fixation resulted in significantly less luminal sloughing of cells (1.59±1.34 vs 3.44±0.83, p≤0.00001), less cytoplasmic shrinkage of seminiferous tubular cells (1.58±1.11 vs 3.11±1.07, p≤0.00001), better nuclear chromatin detail (3.06±0.91 vs 1.92±0.48, p≤0.00001), less cytoplasmic graininess (2.11±0.96 vs 2.86±0.87, p=0.0014) and better overall clarity of morphological detail than formalin fixation (3.14±0.69 vs 2.14±0.58, p≤0.00001). The diagnostic concordance between DF fixed and formalin fixed biopsies was 90.8%. This study supports the use of DF as a superior alternative fixative to formalin for histological assessment of testicular biopsies.Acquired cystic disease (ACD) associated renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is designated as a new subtype unique to patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) according to the 2016 World Health Organization (WHO) classification. However, the oncological outcomes of the prognostic factors for patients with this subtype are not fully understood. selleck chemicals llc In the present study, we compared the survival of ACD associated RCC patients who underwent nephrectomy with that of patients with other histological subtypes who developed ESRD. Over 378 patients who underwent nephrectomy at three Japanese institutes between 1987 and 2016 were included in this study. A central pathologist reviewed the sections from all patients according to the 2016 WHO classification. The central pathological review showed a clear cell subtype in 165 patients (43.6%), ACD associated RCC in 112 (29.6%), papillary in 61 (16.1%), and others in 40 (10.7%). The proportion of patients with pathological stage 1 was extremely high in both clear cell and ACD associated RCC cohorts (86.6%, 85.7%). The cancer specific survival (CSS) and recurrence free survival rates of patients with ACD associated RCC were comparable with those with clear cell carcinoma and significantly better than those with the papillary subtype. The factors predictive of unfavourable outcomes were long dialysis duration, tumour size, pathological stage, grade 4 tumour, and the presence of lymphovascular invasion or a sarcomatoid component. Patients with a pre-operative dialysis duration of 20 years or longer showed a significantly worse CSS than other patients, probably owing to sarcomatoid differentiation and stage migration during the advanced stages. In conclusion, this study included the largest number of patients with ACD associated RCC, showing a survival similar to that of clear cell histology patients with ESRD, except for the rarity of late recurrence. ACD associated RCC was not as indolent as initially recognised when patients were on long term dialysis.

The aims of the study were 1) to replicate the research based on the pilot study; 2) to increase resilience in nurses working on all units at four hospitals and 3) to determine which interventions were preferred and most effective.

Work stress mediates resilience and resilience moderates work stress. Resilience building activities in the literature are often time consuming, complex and done outside work hours. This study investigated use of portable, accessible and brief interventions by nurses to decrease stress and increase resilience during work hours.

This study used a cross sectional, longitudinal, repeated measures survey design. The study took place in October 2018 to January 2019. Toolkits included written instructions for completing the study protocol, and six activities. Nurses completed surveys at baseline, at 10 time points over a four- to six-week period, and at study conclusion.

Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-10 instrument scores showed resilience increased significantly at four weeks and the effect continued at three months (p<.02). Self-reported stress levels decreased over the study period and nurses self-selected to continue use of the interventions.

The interventions used during work hours decreased self-reported stress and increased resilience. Nurse leaders may easily adopt these options to promote a less stressed workforce. Resilience can increase the ability of nurses to tolerate high stress in the workplace, which may decrease burnout and turnover. In the pandemic, resilience is even more important as hospitals struggle to retain nurses.
