UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Cylinder locks are commonly used on uPVC doors, but can be utilized on other types of door. Cylinder locks are operated by a key which unlocks the cylinder case. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned to those in the lock and allow them to rotate the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with both internal and external doors generally having different levels of security.

Selecting the right cylinder for your needs is crucial; it is dependent on the way your doors and handles are utilized. External doors, for instance are required to be fitted with cylinders that are more secure and internal doors can be secured using the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that increase security, like anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

A euro cylinder should be properly measured to ensure that it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, if there is one. If you are unable measure it with the lock in position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks such as lock snapping, so it is important that it's not too long.

The design of most newer cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These are designed to reduce the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in the opposite direction. This can help to deflect attacks and protect your door.

There are also cylinders that are constructed to withstand snapping. This is a more frequent type of attack on cylinders, where the break line inside the lock is attacked using a special tool to break the front of the cylinder and allow the door to open. This is a faster and simpler method to gain access than through a multipoint locking system. It also leaves no evidence of the break-in which can hinder insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits within the base of your door handle's backplate, providing a spring solution to return the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after usage. Previously a lot of handles didn't have a spring built into them, and without it they are more likely to slide or drop when the locking mechanism is disengaged. This component is the most effective way to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your door from becoming stuck in the closed or open position as they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes are specifically designed for use with sprung multipoint locks but they won't work with multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will need to have a bespoke hole cut into your backplate to allow these to fit (please look at the image for a technical diagram). They are a replacement for existing damaged or missing cassettes inside the backplate of the door handle for many brands of uPVC doors. They are fitted with an elongated square that allows for an 8mm spindle to be used and they are supplied individually.
