0%) were single-IgM seropositive. Moreover, for the animal species, the pig was the most prevalent animal (90.2%, 304/337) for IgG positivity, followed by Tibetan sheep (50.7%, 460/907), chickens (45.8%, 229/500), yaks (21.1%, 140/663), cows (18.5%, 38/205) and horses (13.1%, 8/61), respectively. For the IgM antibody positivity, the pig was also the most prevalent animal (41.8%, 141/337), followed by Tibetan sheep (21.2%, 191/907), cows (15.1%, 31/205), chickens (12.4%, 62/500) and yaks (6.6%, 44/663), respectively. The significant differences in the prevalent distribution of T. gondii were found in the different altitudes. In conclusion, this study found the high seroprevalence for T. gondii infections among these animal species in the QTPA, and provides new data to facilitate further research for development of control measures against T. gondii infections in the surveyed locations.Leptospirosis is an underestimated tropical disease caused by the pathogenic Leptospira species and responsible for several serious health problems. Here, we aimed to develop an ultrasensitive DNA biosensor for the rapid and on-site detection of the Loa22 gene of Leptospira interrogans using a gold nanoparticle-carbon nanofiber composite (AuN/CNF)-based screen-printed electrode. Staurosporine ic50 Cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance were performed for electrochemical analysis. The sensitivity of the sensor was 5431.74 μA/cm2/ng with a LOD (detection limit) of 0.0077 ng/μL using cyclic voltammetry. The developed DNA biosensor was found highly specific to the Loa22 gene of L. interrogans, with a storage stability at 4 °C for 180 days and a 6% loss of the initial response. This DNA-based sensor only takes 30 min for rapid detection of the pathogen, with a higher specificity and sensitivity. The promising results obtained suggest the application of the developed sensor as a point of care device for the diagnosis of leptospirosis.Development of sensor materials based on metal oxide semiconductors (MOS) for selective gas sensors is challenging for the tasks of air quality monitoring, early fire detection, gas leaks search, breath analysis, etc. An extensive range of sensor materials has been elaborated, but no consistent guidelines can be found for choosing a material composition targeting the selective detection of specific gases. Fundamental relations between material composition and sensing behavior have not been unambiguously established. In the present review, we summarize our recent works on the research of active sites and gas sensing behavior of n-type semiconductor metal oxides with different composition (simple oxides ZnO, In2O3, SnO2, WO3; mixed-metal oxides BaSnO3, Bi2WO6), and functionalized by catalytic noble metals (Ru, Pd, Au). The materials were variously characterized. The composition, metal-oxygen bonding, microstructure, active sites, sensing behavior, and interaction routes with gases (CO, NH3, SO2, VOC, NO2) were examined. The key role of active sites in determining the selectivity of sensor materials is substantiated. It was shown that the metal-oxygen bond energy of the MOS correlates with the surface acidity and the concentration of surface oxygen species and oxygen vacancies, which control the adsorption and redox conversion of analyte gas molecules. The effects of cations in mixed-metal oxides on the sensitivity and selectivity of BaSnO3 and Bi2WO6 to SO2 and VOCs, respectively, are rationalized. The determining role of catalytic noble metals in oxidation of reducing analyte gases and the impact of acid sites of MOS to gas adsorption are demonstrated.Skin, as the outermost organ of the body, is constantly exposed to both intrinsic and extrinsic causative factors of aging. Intrinsic aging is related to compromised cellular proliferative capacity, and may be accelerated by harmful environmental influences with the greatest significance of ultraviolet radiation exposure, contributing not only to premature aging, but also to skin carcinogenesis. The overall skin cancer burden and steadily increasing global antiaging market provide an incentive for searching novel targets to improve skin resistance against external injury. Sirtuin 1, initially linked to extension of yeast and rodent lifespan, plays a key role in epigenetic modification of proteins, histones, and chromatin by which regulates the expression of genes implicated in the oxidative stress response and apoptosis. The spectrum of cellular pathways regulated by sirtuin 1 suggests its beneficial impact on skin aging. However, the data on its role in carcinogenesis remains controversial. The aim of this review was to discuss the relevance of sirtuin 1 in skin aging, in the context of intrinsic factors, related to genetic premature aging syndromes, as well as extrinsic modifiable ones, with the assessment of its future application. PubMed were searched from inception to 4 January 2021 for relevant papers with further search carried out on ClinicalTrials.gov. The systematic review included 46 eligible original articles. The evidence from numerous studies proves sirtuin 1 significance in both chronological and premature aging as well as its dual role in cancer development. Several botanical compounds hold the potential to improve skin aging symptoms.Breast cancer progression is highly dependent on the heterotypic interaction between tumor cells and stromal cells of the tumor microenvironment. Cancer-associated adipocytes (CAAs) are emerging as breast cancer cell partners favoring proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. This article discussed the intersection between extracellular signals and the transcriptional cascade that regulates adipocyte differentiation in order to appreciate the molecular pathways that have been described to drive adipocyte dedifferentiation. Moreover, recent studies on the mechanisms through which CAAs affect the progression of breast cancer were reviewed, including adipokine regulation, metabolic reprogramming, extracellular matrix remodeling, and immune cell modulation. An in-depth understanding of the complex vicious cycle between CAAs and breast cancer cells is crucial for designing novel strategies for new therapeutic interventions.
