In vitro folliculogenesis (ivF) has been proposed as an emerging technology to support follicle growth and oocyte development. It holds a great deal of attraction from preserving human fertility to improving animal reproductive biotechnology. Materials and Methods We conducted a retrospective analysis of the PKERP (n = 123) and TURP (n = 143) in patients aged ≥80 years at urology department of The Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from January 2016 to October 2019. Then the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative data of different indicators were compared between the two groups. The follow-up was done at 3 months, 1 year after surgical treatment. Results No significant differences were observed between the two groups for the baseline characteristics, including age, prostate volume, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level, concurrent disease, maximum urinary flow rate (MFR), international prostate symptoms score (IPSS), and quality of life (QoL) score. The operative time, hemoglobin decrease, and postoperative flushing time were significantly lower in the PKERP group compared with the TURP group. However, no significant differences were observed between both groups for postoperative hospital stay, incidence of transurethral resection syndrome (TURS), prostatic capsular perforation, and genuine urinary incontinence. The follow-up results showed that the MFR of the PKERP group was significantly higher than the TURP group at 1 year after surgery. Conclusion Compared with TURP, PKERP is a safe and efficacious method for treating patients aged ≥80 years with benign prostate hyperplasia, and it may improve long-term urination symptoms.Study Objective Evaluate the effects of a fast-track (FT) protocol on costs and post-operative recovery. Methods One hundred and seventy women undergoing total laparoscopic hysterectomy for a benign indication were randomized in a FT protocol or a usual care protocol. A FT protocol included the combination of minimally invasive surgery, analgesia optimization, early oral refeeding and rapid mobilization of patients was compared to a usual care protocol. Primary outcome was costs. Secondary outcomes were length of stay, post-operative morbidity and patient satisfaction. Main Results The mean total cost in the FT group was 13,070 ± 4,321 Euros (EUR) per patient, and that in the usual care group was 3.5% higher at 13,527 ± 3,925 EUR (p = 0.49). The FT group had lower inpatient surgical costs but higher total ambulatory costs during the first post-operative month. The mean hospital stay in the FT group was 52.7 ± 26.8 h, and that in the usual care group was 20% higher at 65.8 ± 33.7 h (p = 0.006). Morbidity during the first post-operative month was not significantly different between the two groups. On their day of discharge, the proportion of patients satisfied with pain management was similar in both groups [83% in FT and 78% in the usual care group (p = 0.57)]. Satisfaction with medical follow-up 1 month after surgery was also similar [91% in FT and 88% in the usual care group (p = 0.69)]. Conclusion Implementation of a FT protocol in laparoscopic hysterectomy for benign indications has minimal non-significant effects on costs but significantly reduces hospital stay without increasing post-operative morbidity nor decreasing patient satisfaction. Twenty years before, the patient had undergone a quadrantectomy with axillary dissection for an infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the left breast, followed by adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy. A true-cut biopsy of the mass showed a low differentiated malignant neoplasm with spindle-shaped cells. The patient underwent a total-body CT scan which showed a 16 × 15 × 10 cm largely necrotic mass with irregular and undefined margins, with little homolateral round-shaped cervical and mesenteric lymph nodes but no distant metastases. After a multidisciplinary discussion, we proposed surgery as the first therapeutic option. The planned treatment was a wide excision of the mass with the underlying ribs (II-VI) followed by the reconstruction of the thoracic wall using titanium bars covered by the acellular porcine dermis, latissimus dorsi flap, and finally, skin grafts from the thighs.Purpose This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic impact of vascular invasion (VI) in comparison with that of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in non-metastatic colon cancer. Methods Patients who underwent curative surgery for stage I-III colon cancer were divided into four groups depending on the status of VI and LNM (Group I VI-/LNM-; Group II VI+/LNM-; Group III VI-/LNM+; Group IV VI+/LNM+). Group III was subdivided according to the nodal (N) stage (Group IIIA VI-/N1; Group IIIB VI-/N2). Oncological outcomes were compared between Groups II and III. Results In total, 793 non-metastatic colon cancer patients were included. Group II [hazard ratio (HR) 2.34, 1.01-5.41] and Group III (HR 1.91, 1.26-2.89) were independently associated with poor disease-free survival (DFS). The 5-year DFS rates were comparable in Groups II (71.6%) and III (72.5%) (P = 0.637). When Group III was subdivided into Groups IIIA and IIIB, DFS deteriorated in the following order Groups IIIA, II, and IIIB. The 5-year DFS rates were 79.7, 71.6, and 61.4% in Groups IIIA, II, and IIIB, respectively. Group II had a tendency toward early recurrence. The 1- and 2-year DFS rates were 76.3 and 71.6% in Group II and 88.3 and 79.8% in Group III, respectively (P = 0.067 and 0.247). All recurrences in Group II were distant metastases. Conclusion VI is a prognostic factor as significant as LNM and may be a stronger prognostic factor than N1 stage in non-metastatic colon cancer. Results Compared with the classical technique, our modified procedure possessed a shorter operation time (22.9 ± 7.3 vs. 38.9 ± 13.0 min, p less then 0.05) and a smaller distending media volume (1,495.6 ± 540.1 vs. 2,393.1 ± 719.4 ml, p less then 0.01). Access to the middle and inner ear is provided through a small-diameter hole created by a robotic drilling process without a mastoidectomy. Using the same image-guided robotic system, we propose an electrode lead management technique using robotic milling that replaces the standard process of stowing excess electrode lead in the mastoidectomy cavity. Before accessing the middle ear, an electrode channel is milled robotically based on intraoperative planning. The goal is to further standardize cochlear implantation, minimize the risk of iatrogenic intracochlear damage, and to create optimal conditions for a long implant life through protection from external trauma and immobilization in a slight press fit to prevent mechanical fatigue and electrode migrations. Methods The proposed workflow was executed on 12 ex-vivo temporal bones and evaluated for safety and efficacy. For safety, the differen management and fixation technique and verified its safety and efficacy in an ex-vivo study. The method of image-guided robotic bone removal presented here with average errors of 0.2 mm and maximal errors below 0.5 mm could be used for a variety of other otologic surgical procedures.Objective To provide updated evidence on comparative efficacy for clinical outcomes of radical trachelectomy and radical hysterectomy in patients with early-stage cervical cancer. Methods A systematic search was conducted in the PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Google scholar databases. Studies were done in patients with early-stage cervical cancer that compared the outcomes between radical trachelectomy (RT) and hysterectomy (RH) were considered for inclusion in the review. The outcomes of interest were operative time, the volume of blood loss, need for blood transfusion, any complications, length of hospital stay, risk of recurrence, and survival. The strength of association was presented in the form of pooled relative risk (RR), hazards risk (HR), and weighted mean difference (WMD). Statistical analysis was done using STATA version 16.0. Results A total of 12 articles were included in the meta-analysis. The majority were retrospective cohort-based studies. Compared to RH, the operative time (in min) was comparatively higher in RT (WMD 23.
