Mass production of transition-metal dichalcogenides has attracted much attention to replace platinum-based catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, we demonstrate a general strategy for the scalable production of the intrinsic tungsten dichalcogenide (WX2(X = S, Se, Te)) quantum sheets (QSs) by an all-physical top-down method. The method combines silica-assisted ball-milling and sonication-assisted solvent exfoliation and thus enables production of WS2QSs, WSe2QSs, and WTe2QSs in exceedingly high yields of 28.2, 21.3, 19.9 wt%, respectively. The WX2QSs are confirmed as intrinsic and defect-free, which could be determinative to their improved HER performance. The overpotentials of 285, 331, 435 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm-2and Tafel slopes of 116, 78, 162 mV dec-1in acidic media, as well as charge transfer resistance values of 171, 242, 1973 Ω, are derived for WS2QSs, WSe2QSs, and WTe2QSs, respectively, which are much better than those of bulk materials. The WX2QSs exhibit high stability during the electrocatalysis as well. This work offers a powerful approach for fabrication of intrinsic QSs as efficient and robust electrocatalysts.The modulation of inflammation in tissue microenvironment takes an important role in cartilage repair and regeneration. In this study, a novel hybrid scaffold was designed and fabricated by filling a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-scavenging hydrogel (RS Gel) into a radially oriented poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) scaffold. The radially oriented PLGA scaffolds were fabricated through a temperature gradient-guided phase separation and freeze-drying method. The RS Gel was formed by crosslinking the mixture of ROS-responsive hyperbranched polymers and biocompatible methacrylated hyaluronic acid (HA-MA). The hybrid scaffolds exhibited a proper compressive modulus, good ROS-scavenging capability, and cell compatibility.In vivotests showed that the hybrid scaffolds significantly regulated inflammation and promoted regeneration of hyaline cartilage after they were implanted into full-thickness cartilage defects in rabbits for 12 w. In comparison with the PLGA scaffolds, the neo-cartilage in the hybrid scaffolds group possessed more deposition of glycosaminoglycans and collagen type II, and were well integrated with the surrounding tissue.

Accurate oncologic staging meeting clinical practice guidelines is essential for guideline adherence, quality assessment, and survival outcomes. However, timely and uniform documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) at the time of diagnosis is a challenge for providers. This quality improvement project aimed to increase provider compliance of timely clinical TNM (cTNM) or pathologic TNM (pTNM) staging for newly diagnosed oncologic patients.

Providers in the following site-specific oncologic teams were included head and neck, skin, breast, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, lung and thoracic, gynecologic, colorectal, and bone marrow transplant. Interventions to facilitate timely cTNM and pTNM staging included standardized EHR-based workflows, learning modules, stakeholder meetings, and individualized provider training sessions. Metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is characterized by a poor survival rate, which can be improved by systemic treatment. Consensus on the most optimal first- and second-line palliative systemic treatment is lacking. The aim of this study was to describe the use of first- and second-line systemic treatment, overall survival (OS), and time to failure (TTF) of first- and second-line treatment in metastatic PDAC in a real-world setting.

Patients with synchronous metastatic PDAC diagnosed between 2015 and 2018 who received systemic treatment were selected from the nationwide Netherlands Cancer Registry. OS and TTF were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier curves with log-rank test and multivariable Cox proportional hazard analyses.

The majority of 1,586 included patients received FOLFIRINOX (65%), followed by gemcitabine (18%), and gemcitabine + nab-paclitaxel (13%) in the first line. There is a global deficit of pediatric neurosurgical care, and the epidemiology and overall surgical care for craniosynostosis is not well characterized at the global level. This study serves to highlight the details and early surgical results of a neurosurgical educational partnership and subsequent local scale-up in craniosynostosis correction.

A prospective case series was performed with inclusion of all patients undergoing correction of craniosynostosis by extensive cranial vault remodeling at Children's Hospital 2, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2019.

A total of 76 patients were included in the study. The group was predominantly male, with a male-to-female ratio of 3.31. Sagittal synostosis was the most common diagnosis (50%, 38/76), followed by unilateral coronal (11.8%, 9/76), bicoronal (11.8%, 9/76), and metopic (7.9%, 6/76). The most common corrective technique was anterior cranial vault remodeling (30/76, 39.4%) followed by frontoorbital advancement (34.2%elationships in addressing this unmet need.

Postoperative internal carotid artery (ICA) intimal flap (IF) is a potential complication after carotid endarterectomy (CEA) for carotid artery stenosis. There are no clear recommendations in the current literature on the management of this condition due to sparse evidence. Some authors advocate carotid stent placement or reoperation, while others suggest watchful waiting. The aim of this study was to analyze incidence and management strategies of postoperative ICA-IF, and moreover, to put these findings into context with a systematic literature review.

The authors retrospectively reviewed all consecutive CEA cases performed at the University Hospital of Bern over a decade (January 2008 to December 2018). mTOR inhibitor The incidence of postoperative ICA-IF, risk factors, management strategies, and outcomes were analyzed. Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) is often associated with drug-resistant epilepsy, leading to a recommendation to surgically remove the seizure focus. Predicting outcome for resection of FCD is challenging, requiring a new approach. Lesion-symptom mapping is a powerful and broadly applicable method for linking neurological symptoms or outcomes to damage to particular brain regions. In this work, the authors applied lesion network mapping, an expansion of the traditional approach, to search for the association of lesion network connectivity with surgical outcomes. They hypothesized that connectivity of lesion volumes, preoperatively identified by MRI, would associate with seizure outcomes after surgery in a pediatric cohort with FCD.

This retrospective study included 21 patients spanning the ages of 3 months to 17.7 years with FCD lesions who underwent surgery for drug-resistant epilepsy. The mean brain-wide functional connectivity map of each lesion volume was assessed across a database of resting-state funed lesion-outcome mapping may offer new insight for determining the impact of lesion volumes discerned according to both size and specific location. The results of this pilot study could be validated with a larger set of data, with the ultimate goal of allowing examination of lesions in patients with FCD and predicting their surgical outcomes.

Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are currently the gold standard to evaluate patient physical performance and ability to recover after spine surgery. However, PROMs have significant limitations due to the qualitative and subjective nature of the information reported as well as the impossibility of using this method in a continuous manner. The smartphone global positioning system (GPS) can be used to provide continuous, quantitative, and objective information on patient mobility. The aim of this study was to use daily mobility features derived from the smartphone GPS to characterize the perioperative period of patients undergoing spine surgery and to compare these objective measurements to PROMs, the current gold standard.

Eight daily mobility features were derived from smartphone GPS data in a population of 39 patients undergoing spine surgery for a period of 2 months starting 3weeks before surgery. In parallel, three different PROMs for pain (visual analog scale [VAS]), disability (Oswestry Disaeas the ODI and PROMIS mental scores presented a weak correlation (Pearson r approximately 0.4).
