Our findings suggest that CoVs are widely spread in West Africa and their circulation should be assessed to evaluate the risk of exposure of potential zoonotic CoVs to humans.Properly regulating the resorption rate of a resorbable bone implant has long been a great challenge. This study investigates a series of physical/chemical properties, biocompatibility and the behavior of implant resorption and new bone formation of a newly developed Ca/P/S-based bone substitute material (Ezechbone® Granule CBS-400). Experimental results show that CBS-400 is comprised majorly of HA and CSD, with a Ca/P/S atomic ratio of 54.6/39.2/6.2. After immersion in Hank's solution for 7 days, the overall morphology, shape and integrity of CBS-400 granules remain similar to that of non-immersed samples without showing apparent collapse or disintegration. With immersion time, the pH value continues to increase to 6.55 after 7 days, and 7.08 after 14 days. Cytotoxicity, intracutaneous reactivity and skin sensitization tests demonstrate the good biocompatibility features of CBS-400. Rabbit implantation/histological observations indicate that the implanted granules are intimately bonded to the surrounding new bone at all times. The implant is not merely a degradable bone substitute, but its resorption and the formation of new cancellous bone proceed at the substantially same pace. After implantation for 12 weeks, about 85% of the implant has been resorbed. The newly-formed cancellous bone ratio quickly increases to >40% at 4 weeks, followed by a bone remodeling process toward normal cancellous bone, wherein the new cancellous bone ratio gradually tapers down to about 30% after 12 weeks.Calcium and phosphate may play an important role in cardio-metabolic abnormalities, including type 2 diabetes; however, epidemiological evidence of the association of calcium and phosphate status with glucose metabolism among Asians is limited. In the current study, we performed a cross-sectional analysis of the association of serum calcium, phosphate, and calcium-phosphate product concentrations with glucose metabolism markers among Japanese individuals. Overall, 1701 workers (aged 18-78 years) who participated in a health survey were enrolled in this study. Multivariable linear regression models were used to estimate means of homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), homeostatic model assessment of β-cell function (HOMA-β), and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). Serum calcium concentration was positively associated with HOMA-IR and HbA1c (p for trend less then 0.01). Multivariable-adjusted means (95% confidence interval (CI)) of HOMA-IR for the lowest and highest quartiles of serum calcium were 0.78 (0.75-0.82) and 1.01 (0.96-1.07), respectively. The corresponding values for HbA1c were 5.24 (5.22-5.27) and 5.29 (5.26-5.32), respectively. Serum phosphate and calcium-phosphate product concentrations were inversely associated with HOMA-IR (p for trend less then 0.01). Multivariable-adjusted means (95% CI) of HOMA-IR for the lowest and highest quartiles of serum phosphate were 1.04 (0.99-1.09) and 0.72 (0.69-0.76), respectively. The corresponding values for calcium-phosphate product were 1.04 (0.99-1.09) and 0.73 (0.69-0.77), respectively. The current findings suggest that higher serum calcium and lower serum phosphate concentrations are associated with IR among apparently healthy adults.Rational prescribing is challenging in neonatology. Drug utilization studies help identify and define the problem. We performed a review of the literature on drug use in neonatal units and describe global variations. We searched databases (EMBASE, CINAHL and Medline) from inception to July 2020, screened studies and extracted relevant data (two reviewers). The search revealed 573 studies of which 84 were included. India (n = 14) and the USA (n = 13) reported the most. Data collection was prospective (n = 56) and retrospective (n = 26), mostly (n = 52) from one center only. Sixty studies described general drug use in 34 to 450,386 infants (median (IQR) 190 (91-767)) over a median (IQR) of 6 (3-18) months. Of the participants, 20-87% were preterm. The mean number of drugs per infant (range 11.1 to 1.7, pooled mean (SD) 4 (2.4)) was high with some reporting very high burden (≥30 drugs per infant in 8 studies). This was not associated with the proportion of preterm infants included. Antibiotics were the most frequently used drug. Ipatasertib Drug use patterns were generally uniform with some variation in antibiotic use and more use of phenobarbitone in Asia. This study provides a global perspective on drug utilization in neonates and highlights the need for better quality information to assess rational prescribing.Exposure to greenspace has been related to improved mental health, but the available evidence is limited and findings are heterogeneous across different areas. We aimed to evaluate the associations between residential exposure to greenspace and specific psychopathological and psychosomatic symptoms related to mental health among mothers from a Spanish birth cohort. Our study was based on data from 1171 women participating in two follow-ups of a population-based cohort in Valencia, Sabadell, and Gipuzkoa (2004-2012). For each participant, residential surrounding greenspace was estimated as the average of the satellite-based Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) across different buffers around the residential address at the time of delivery and at the 4-year follow-up. The Symptom Checklist 90 Revised (SCL-90-R) was applied to characterize mental health at the 4-year follow-up. We developed mixed-effects logistic regression models controlled for relevant covariates to evaluate the associations. Higher residential surrounding greenspace was associated with a lower risk of somatization and anxiety symptoms. For General Severity Index (GSI), obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation, and psychoticism symptoms, we generally observed protective associations, but none attained statistical significance. Findings from this study suggested a potential positive impactof greenspace on mental health.
