In Switzerland, the influenza vaccination is recommended for high-risk groups and people who have contact with high-risk groups. Since 2015, Swiss pharmacists are allowed to vaccinate healthy adults after acquiring a certificate of competence for vaccination and blood sampling techniques. We aimed to assess customers of the seasonal influenza vaccination in pharmacies in regard to their satisfaction, motivation, and reasons.

Swiss pharmacies collected survey data during a period of 12 weeks from mid-October 2019 to mid-January 2020. Each participating pharmacy was sent 20 questionnaires to be handed out to vaccinated customers. The questionnaire was available in German and French and subdivided into four sections demographic information, satisfaction, reasons for getting the vaccination, and reasons for choosing a pharmacy as a place of vaccination. We tested for statistical differences in answer tendencies across strata on questionnaire language, age groups, and levels of education.

Of the 1600 surveys sent, 80 pharmacies sent back 656 completed questionnaires (return rate, 41%). Main age bracket was 65-74 years (26.2%), followed by 55-64 years (24.7%), with an equal distribution of reported sex (female, 49.5%). Of the respondents, 99% would have recommended the service and 88.5% felt very comfortable being vaccinated by a pharmacist. Satisfaction included injection technique, used facilities, preparatory discussions, and pricing of the service. Easy scheduling was a main motivation for choosing a pharmacy as the vaccination provider. We identified minor differences in answer tendencies across questionnaire language and age groups, but not across levels of education.

He was hospitalized 10 days prior in another hospital. Before surgery, he complained of mild cough. Routine chest radiography demonstrated right upper lobe consolidation which was diagnosed as hospital-acquired pneumonia. Broad-spectrum empirical antimicrobial was initiated. After surgery, his clinical condition deteriorated and he felt breathlessness. Chest radiography and computed tomography (CT) scan without contrast revealed necrotizing and cavitating pneumonia complicated by bronchopleural fistula (BPF) and hydropneumothorax. Sputum culture revealed infection of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (MDRAB). Despite optimal antibiotic therapy, BPF and hydropneumothorax failed to resolve and surgical approach was performed to debride the necrotic area and seal the fistula. After a month in the hospital, he was discharged and the serial chest X-ray showed good recovery of the lung.

Unintended pregnancy presents a crisis situation with limited options for resolution. Abortion appears to be a commonly chosen option but is stigmatized in many societies including Ghana. Keeping a child from an unintended pregnancy is also unsuitable for many people. Carrying through with the pregnancy and placing the child up for adoption is a potential management option but there is scanty literature on how viable this option is to women globally including Ghana. The study sought to assess acceptability of this option and its barriers and facilitators in Ghana.

This study was a part of a bigger analytical cross-sectional study on unintended pregnancy in Kumasi conducted in three centres from January to April 2014. Exit interviews were conducted for 461 consenting women to capture data on demography, reproductive profile and acceptability of giving up a child from an unintended pregnancy for adoption. Frequencies, proportions and means were computed and presented in tables.

Over 85% of respondents woufforts are made at primary prevention through using contraceptives. The complex adoption process must be made friendly for women with unintended pregnancies who neither desire parenting nor abortion.

The main aim of this study was to estimate relative proportions of medication use according to different pregnancy risk categories (A, B, C, D, X) among pregnant women attending antenatal care (ANC) visits at Shashemene Referral Hospital.

A hospital-based retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted at Shashemene referral hospital from February 2016 to February 2017. Structured data collection form was used to capture data from patient medication cards. SPSS version 16.0 was used to analyze the results after entering and importing from MS-Excel.

A total of 317 pregnant women cards were collected and assessed during the study period in May, 2017. Most, 208(65.6%), of the pregnant women were in their second trimester of pregnancy followed by third trimester, 78(24.6%). Tetanus prevention in pregnancy, 274(86.4%), was the most common reason for drug use. Number of medications prescribed was highest, 384(68.2%), in second trimester followed by third trimester, 130(23.1%). More than half, 305(54.2%), of the drugs prescribed were under category C, tetanus toxoid (TT) vaccine alone accounting for 274 (89.8%) of them, followed by 36.8% from category A.

The information about the pharmacokinetics and optimal dose of tigecycline in critically ill patients with severe underlying diseases is limited and controversial. In this study, we evaluate the pharmacokinetic parameters of tigecycline in critically ill patients with multidrug-resistant Gram-negative infection and explore the association between the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic ratio and treatment response.

A prospective study was designed including critically ill patients treated with tigecycline for multidrug-resistant Gram-negative infections. Blood samples were collected at day 3-5 of treatment, and pharmacokinetics parameters were evaluated using NONMEM

software. Relationship between area under the free concentration-time curve and minimum inhibitory concentration ratio (fAUC/MIC) and treatment failure was evaluated. Association between tigecycline fAUC and hepatobiliary toxicity was also investigated.

Overweight or obesity has been evidenced as an important risk factor involved in the incidence, mortality, and therapy response of multiple malignancies. However, the differences between healthy and obesity tumor patients at the molecular and multi-omics levels remain unclear.

Our study performed a comprehensive and multidimensional analysis in fourteen tumor types of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and found body mass index (BMI)-related genes in multiple tumor types. Furthermore, we compared composite expression between normal, overweight, and obese patients of each immune cell subpopulation and metabolism gene subset. Statistical significance was calculated via the Kruskal-Wallis rank-sum test.

Our analysis revealed that BMI-related genes are enriched in multiple tumor-related biological pathways involved in intracellular signaling, immune response, and metabolism. We also found the different relationships between BMI and different immune cell infiltration and metabolic pathway activity. Importantly, we found that many clinically actionable genes were BMI-affect genes.

Overall, our data indicated that BMI-associated molecular characteristics involved in tumor immune and metabolic pathways, which may highlight the clinical importance of considering BMI-associated molecular signatures in cancer precision medicine.

Soil compaction affects both soil and forage productivity. Differing grasses may counteract some effects of compaction due to differences in their root architecture and ontogeny. To compare their resilience to soil compaction, three Festulolium (ryegrass and fescue species' hybrids) forage grass cultivars comprising differing root architecture and ontogeny were compared in replicated field plots, together with a ryegrass and tall fescue variety as controls. Pre-compaction soil and forage properties were determined in spring using > four-year-old plots to generate baseline data. Half of each field plot was then artificially compacted using farm machinery. Forage dry matter yield (DMY) was determined over four cuts. After the final harvest, post compaction soil characteristics and root biomass (RB) were compared between grasses in the non-compacted and compacted soils. Pre-compaction data showed that soil under Festulolium and ryegrass had similar water infiltration rates, higher than soil under tall fescue plots.
