Inflammation is the key pathophysiological mechanism of the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. We analyzed data from consecutive patients taking beta-blockers referred for cardiopulmonary exercise testing to assess EC. Chronotropic incompetence was defined as chronotropic index (CI) ≤ 62%.
