The overall results showed that IMP, AMP, Hx, Total metabolites, K value, K1 value, K0 value, H value, P value, G value, and IMP ratio in skeletal muscles changed significantly with PMI (R2 = 0.864-0.971, all P less then 0.01) while ATP, ADP, Ino, IMP precursors and IMP degradants had minor changes during the same period (R2 = 0.171-0.706). The body of L. mellita consists of a trunk and a proboscis. The trunk terminates at the anal lobe, which contains many large glands, the secretions of which may be used for processing of the hard substratum where studied animals were found. The proboscis has lateral ciliated grooves that are less then 7 μm wide and are probably used for collecting and separating food particles. The coelom is divided into the coelom of the proboscis and the coelom of trunk. The location of proboscis coelom may suggest that the proboscis is derived from the oral segment of the body of a hypothetical segmented echiuran ancestor. The shortness and histological uniformity of the foregut indicates that L. mellita feeds on soft food particles that do not require mechanical processing. Previous studies have suggested that omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) can favorably influence cardiac autonomic tone. However, data regarding n-3 PUFA status and heart rate recovery (HRR) in healthy adults are sparse.

To examine the association between n-3 PUFA status and HRR.

Participants included 13,912 patients who underwent a comprehensive examination at the Cooper Clinic, Dallas TX. Fitness was determined from a maximal exercise test. HRR was calculated by subtracting the heart rate at 1, 3, and 5min of an active recovery period from the maximal heart rate. Participants were categorized as having a low (<4%), normal (4-8%) or optimal (>8%) Omega-3 Index (O3I) (i.e., erythrocyte levels of eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids). read more Multiple linear regression was used to model the association between O3I and HRR adjusting for age, maximal METs, body mass index, and smoking by sex.

Australian women with a singleton pregnancy less then 21 weeks' gestation were randomised to receive 800 mg DHA/day or a placebo until birth. A sample of 726 children (all n=96 born preterm, random sample of n=630 born at term) were invited to undergo assessments of language, academic, and language-based cognitive abilities at 1.5, four and seven years of age. No group differences were detected for any group comparison. Exploratory analyses for sex by treatment interactions revealed a possible adverse effect of DHA supplementation on the language of females at 1.5 years but no effects on outcomes at four or seven years. The aim was to determine the distribution and relative enrichment of AA and DHA among lipoprotein fractions prior to pregnancy, throughout gestation and in the post-partum period. Our hypothesis was that in pregnancy, in contrast to the non-pregnant state, AA and DHA are carried in highest concentration in the very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) fraction secondary to increased gestational liver triglyceride secretion. Two independent prospective, observational cohort studies carried out in Glasgow were combined; one early in pregnancy and one later in pregnancy with post-partum follow up. Across the pregnancy timeline plasma lipoproteins were isolated using sequential ultracentrifugation and lipoprotein fatty acids were extracted and analysed by gas chromatography. High density lipoprotein (HDL) had the highest concentration of AA and DHA compared to other lipoproteins. HDL became progressively enriched in the proportion of triglycerides at 16 weeks of gestation, which peaked at 35 weeks and returned to baseline at 13 weeks postpartum. HDL DHA per HDL-cholesterol and HDL DHA per apoA-I became progressively enriched at 16 weeks of gestation, peaked at 25 weeks and returned to baseline at 13 weeks postpartum, whereas HDL AA (per HDL-C or HDL-apoA-I) did not differ. DHA is carried primarily in HDL rather than VLDL. HDL has anti-oxidant properties that might afford DHA protection against oxidation.
