We analyze the consensus modules shared between both control and disease stages in terms of their association with diseases. We also validate the close associations between human and chimpanzee modules and compare with the state-ofthe- art method. Additionally, we propose two novel observations on the relationships between modules for further analysis.Silkwormsilk protein fibroin is widely exploited to develop novel silk-based biomaterials due to its stable β-sheet structure, providing high crystallinity and tensile strength. The polymorphic behaviour of silk fibroin provides a window to modulate its structural transitions during self-assembly for different functional outcomes. Most studies are therefore mainly focused on formation of well-developed β-sheet structure and self-assembly of silk fibroin which are regulated by many parameters. Glyoxal, a highly reactive α-oxoaldehyde, reacts with different proteins to form advanced glycation end products (AGEs) following Maillard-like reaction. Considering the significance of protein modification by glyoxal-derived AGEs, in the present study the effect of glyoxal (250, 500 and 1000 μM) on the structure of silk fibroin has been investigated. CD and fluorescence studies reveal that higher concentrations of the α-oxoaldehyde induce considerable alterations of secondary and tertiary structure of the protein leading to aggregation following incubation with for 3 weeks. The aggregates exhibit fibrillar morphology with amyloidal nature as evident from SEM, FTIR and XRD experiments. The findings highlight that glycationinduced modification can be a possible approach for modulating the conformation of the silk protein which may be relevant in connection to clinical, biomedical or synthetic biology based applications. While artificial womb technology (ectogenesis) is currently being studied for the purpose of improving neonatal care, I contend that this technology ought to be pursued as a means to address the unprecedented rate of unintended pregnancies. But ectogenesis, alongside other emerging reproductive technologies, is problematic insofar as it threatens to disrupt the natural link between procreation and parenthood that is normally thought to generate rights and responsibilities for biological parents. I argue that there remains only one potentially viable account of parenthood the voluntarist account, which construes parental rights as robust moral obligations that must be voluntarily undertaken. The problem is that this account mistakenly presumes a patriarchal divide between procreation and parenthood. I propose a reframing of procreation and parenthood from a feminist perspective that recognises gestational motherhood as involving robust moral obligations that ought to be voluntarily undertaken. If this were the case, all gestational mothers would be, by definition, willing mothers. To make this happen I argue that ectogenesis technology must be a widely available reproductive option. © Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2020. No commercial re-use. See rights and permissions. In this response, we argue that although Hausman certainly points to real problems with how severity is often interpreted and operationalised within the priority setting context, the conclusion that severity does not contain plausible ethical content is too hasty. Rather than abandonment, our proposal is to take severity seriously by carefully mapping the possibly multiple underlying accounts to well-established ethical theories, in a way that is both morally defensible and aligned with the term's colloquial uses. © Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2020. We further show that our preferred implementation of meta consent as a national consent platform solves this problem and is not subject to the cost and burden objections that Manson raises. © Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2020. Studies suggest serial blood SAA measurements could act as a prognostic indicator. This study evaluated the use of serial blood SAA concentrations for monitoring of horses with synovial sepsis. METHODS A prospective clinical trial was performed of horses referred to a single hospital with synovial sepsis that survived (n=17), synovial sepsis that were euthanised (n=5), non-septic intrasynovial pathologies (n=14) or extensive extrasynovial lacerations (n=5). SAA concentrations were determined on admission and every 24 hours thereafter. The area under the concentration-time curve from 0 to 144 hours of each group was compared by Kruskal-Wallis and post hoc Dunn's tests (P less then 0.05). RESULTS Significant difference in mean blood concentration of SAA was found between synovial sepsis that survived and non-septic pathologies in the first 48 hours, as well as between non-septic intrasynovial pathologies and non-responsive sepsis requiring euthanasia. find more No difference was found between extensive extrasynovial lacerations and any septic group. CONCLUSIONS While serial blood SAA is useful for monitoring clinical response of intrasynovial septic pathologies, interpretation should consider other clinical findings since blood SAA is not a specific marker for synovial sepsis. © British Veterinary Association 2020. Few studies have been undertaken to assess keeping practices of snakes by private owners in Australia. Therefore, there is concern that some owners may not understand even basic husbandry requirements. The aim of this preliminary study was to identify the most common practices used by snake owners in Victoria, Australia. METHOD An online survey asked 251 snake owners to describe ways in which they attempt to meet their snake's environmental, behavioural, dietary, social and health needs. RESULTS Fewer than half of participants had an enclosure large enough for the snake to fully stretch out, and just over half had an enclosure large enough to meet the requirements in the Victorian Code of Practice. Only 60 per cent of owners correctly identified their snake's activity patterns based on information about wild snakes of the same species. CONCLUSION Educational campaigns may help improve outcomes for snakes in the future, but more research is needed about captive snake husbandry, to provide an evidence base for informing snake management recommendations.
