Herein, we review the current knowledge about the potential implication of the NLRP3 inflammasome in the anti-cancer and cardiotoxic effects of DOX.Straw return, as an important agricultural management measure, is receiving growing attention. Hydroxyl radical (•OH) can be produced when subsurface soil interacts with oxygen, but the effects of straw incorporation on •OH formation have rarely been evaluated. In this study, we found that straw return had a significant effect on soil properties. Soil pH and redox potential (Eh) decreased while electronic conductivity (EC) showed an increment. Dissolved organic carbon content of soil initially increased and then decreased to the same level as the control by the end of the experiment of 120 days. Moreover, Fe(II) formation was promoted by straw return under anaerobic conditions. •OH was produced in the flooded paddy soil when exposed to oxygen, which correlated well with Fe(II) content. The effect of rape (Brassica campestris L.) straw on •OH formation rate was more evident as compared to wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) straw, suggesting a potentially more profound influence of rape straw return on pollutant transformation in paddy soils.

To examine healing adaptations over 17weeks post Achilles tendon (AT) rupture in the injured region (IR) compared to an uninjured region (UIR) of the AT.

Twenty-four rats were subjected to a complete right-sided AT rupture, while the left side served as a control. ATs were harvested at 1, 2, 8 and 17weeks post-rupture and stained with antibodies specific to Collagen type I (Col I) and II (Col II) as well as Alcian Blue and Picrosirius Red staining techniques. Histopathological changes, proteoglycan content, collagen alignment and immunoexpression were assessed.

Both regions examined, IR and UIR, exhibited over weeks 1-17 similar healing adaptations of increasing collagen alignment, decreasing Col I immunoexpression, as well as increasing proteoglycan content and Col II occurrence. Increased proteoglycan content was found already at week 2 in the UIR, while it first increased at week 8 in the IR. The area positive to Col II was increased compared to controls at week 8 in the UIR, whereas it first raised at week 17 in the IR. Collagen disorganization successively declined to reach control levels at week 17 in the UIR, but was still higher in the IR.

This study demonstrated that uninjured areas of the AT remote from the rupture site also undergo pronounced remodeling, although with time-span differences relative to injured AT portions. These changes including the pathologic heterotopic mineralization and chondrogenic differentiation observed in both regions may have implications in the choice of rehabilitation regimes in order to prevent secondary rupture.

The aim of this study was to investigate differences in the bacterial microbiome of the pharynx and skin of patients with psoriasis compared with healthy controls. Swabs were taken from the pharynx and elbow skin of 39 patients with psoriasis and 70 controls. Microbiomes were characterized by sequencing 16S rRNA genes on the Illumina MiSeq platform. Significant differences were found in alpha and beta diversity in the skin, but not in the pharynx. Significant differences were also found between several phyla and genera in both skin and pharynx. The severity of psoriasis did not correlate with any genera in the pharynx, but with Capnocytophaga, Leptotrichia, Abiotrophia and Tannerella in the skin. The composition of the pharyn-geal and skin microbiome may be of importance in the patho-genesis of psoriasis.Evidence about the association of bullous pemphigoid and the risk of cancer is conflicting. Patients diagnosed with bullous pemphigoid (n = 5,739) between 2005 and 2016 were matched with a control cohort from the general population (n = 17,168) to estimate their overall and specific risk of cancer. The risk of squamous cell cancer of the skin (cSCC) was increased in patients with bullous pemphigoid (hazard ratio (HR) 1.3; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.1-1.6). The risk of lymphoma within one year after bullous pemphigoid diagnosis was also increased (HR 3.1; 95% CI 1.3-7.6). While overall cancer risk prior to diagnosis of bullous pemphigoid was similar in cases and controls (prevalence odds ratio (POR) 1.0; 95% CI 0.9-1.0), the risk of male genital cancer within one year prior to diagnosis of bullous pemphigoid was lower in cases (POR 0.4; 95% CI 0.2-0.8). Clinicians must be aware of the increased risk of cSCC and lym-phoma in patients with bullous pemphigoid.Artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for automated classification of skin diseases are available to the consumer market. Studies of their diagnostic accuracy are rare. We assessed the diagnostic accuracy of an open-access AI application (Skin Image Search™) for recognition of skin diseases. Clinical images including tumours, infective and inflammatory skin diseases were collected at the Department of Dermatology at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and uploaded for classification by the online application. The AI algorithm classified the images giving 5 differential diagnoses, which were then compared to the diagnoses made clinically by the dermatologists and/or histologically. We included 521 images portraying 26 diagnoses. The diagnostic accuracy was 56.4% for the top 5 suggested diagnoses and 22.8% when only considering the most probable diagnosis. The level of diagnostic accuracy varied considerably for diagnostic groups. Sepantronium The online application demonstrated low diagnostic accuracy compared to a dermatologist evaluation and needs further development.
