Evaluate the mid-term success rate of these stems in periprosthetic femur fractures and to analyze the complications observed with the use of these stems.
Thirty five patients that underwent hip revision surgery secondary to Vancouver type B2 and B3 periprosthetic femur fracture were evaluated. In all cases, modular fluted tapered stems were used.
Average follow-up was 42 months. Average Postoperative Harris Hip Score (HHS) was 78.11. Fracture healing was obtained in a 100% of the patients. Average implant survival was 50 months.
Modular fluted tapered stems demonstrated a high rate implant stability, proximal femoral bone reconstitution, and fracture healing.

Like many industries, it experienced a sharp decline during the pandemic. The reduced traffic consumption has been caused by objective conditions, such as traffic control measures, and subjective factors, such as the perception of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study uses the computable general equilibrium (CGE) model to examine the economic impacts of traffic consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic in China. Moreover, to evaluate the impact of the government's economic stimulus policy related to transportation, this study examines the policy effects of transportation investment. This study suggests that, first, China's macroeconomy has been severely affected by reduced traffic consumption. The period when the pandemic was most severe had the largest GDP decrease (0.49%). Second, transportation consumption is closely associated with the output of all industries. As the pandemic worsens, the output of all sectors declines more. Of the transport sectors, road transport has the largest output decrease (10.17%), followed by railway (1.76%) and air sectors (1.53%). The service industry is the most negatively affected among the non-transportation sectors. Finally, transportation infrastructure investment can effectively promote the economy and create jobs. In addition, railway investment plays a more positive role in the economy than road and air transports. The findings provide a detailed understanding of the economic impact of the significantly reduced traffic consumption at different stages of the pandemic.Understanding changes in travel behavior during the spread of pandemic diseases such as COVID-19 is important to develop a resilient transportation system. Since one of the most important ways to prevent the spread of this virus is to keep a safe distance from other people (i.e. social distancing), it has implications for the operations of public transportation as compared to other modes of transportation due to the confinement of a large number of passengers in enclosed space. This study investigated the effect of the spread of COVID-19 on crowding perception and crowding disutility in metro rail system of Tehran. Two surveys were conducted before and during the COVID-19. The stated preference data were analyzed by mixed logit models with the lognormal distribution. Results revealed that the value of crowding increased during the pandemic. Tracking the changes of crowding perception caused by COVID-19 shows that low comfort scores were observed at crowding levels where seats were taken, and the density of standees was high (i.e. not possible to maintain social distancing). During the outbreak of COVID-19, crowding has more disutility for rail passengers and the value of having a seat while traveling increased. Understanding passengers' perceptions of crowding as examined in this study will assist transport operators, and planners maintain the critical functionality of public transport systems and manage risks of mass transportation during the pandemic and beyond.Data from the national, longitudinal Mid-Life in the US (MIDUS) study were used to examine work alienation and its relationship to biological health as well as psychological and social functioning. The alienation measure focuses on the autonomy and creativity the work provides. We hypothesized that alienated work would have negative associations with each of the three domains in biology, higher 'allostatic load' (biological dysregulation); in psychology, poorer cognitive performance; and socially, negative impacts on family life. The outcomes are generally as predicted, though there are notable differences for men and women. This study aims to examine whether and how user-generated comments and reaction emojis on COVID-19 vaccine-promoting Facebook posts induce psychological reactance to posts and vaccine hesitancy in audiences of the posts. An online experiment including 465 American adults showed that, compared with COVID-19 vaccine promotion posts accompanied by pro-vaccine comments, those accompanied by anti-vaccine comments provoked greater reactance in audiences through the mediating effects of bandwagon perception and the presumed influence of the posts on others. Greater reactance, in turn, increased audiences' COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. Additionally, reaction emojis altered the comments' effects such that pro-vaccine comments triggered less reactance than anti-vaccine comments when the pro-vaccine comments were accompanied by agreement emojis (i.e., "like" and "love"); whereas there was no significant difference between pro-vaccine comments and anti-vaccine comments in reactance when the pro-vaccine comments were accompanied by rejection emojis (i.e., "angry" and "sad"). Furthermore, audiences' pre-existing attitudes did not affect the effects of opinion cues on their' reactance and vaccine hesitancy. For competing risks data, it is often important to predict a patient's outcome status at a clinically meaningful time point after incorporating the informative censoring due to competing risks. This can be done by adopting a regression model that relates the cumulative incidence probabilities to a set of covariates. To assess the performance of the resulting prediction tool, we propose an estimator of the polytomous discrimination index applicable to competing risks data, which can quantify a prognostic model's ability to discriminate among subjects from different outcome groups. The proposed estimator allows the prediction model to be subject to model misspecification and enjoys desirable asymptotic properties. We also develop an efficient computation algorithm that features a computational complexity of O(n log n). A perturbation resampling scheme is developed to achieve consistent variance estimation. TGF-beta cancer Numerical results suggest that the estimator performs well under realistic sample sizes. We apply the proposed methods to a study of monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance.Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is associated with increased rates of malignancies; some are disease-related (like colorectal cancer) and some are primarily associated with therapy exposures. Although there may be an overlap between disease- and therapy-related cancers, the general strategy for prevention of cancer in patients with IBD lies in understanding the risk factors for these malignancies, educating patients about the recommended screening and surveillance practices, and incorporating general screening recommendations into routine IBD care. An important limitation to our understanding of the effectiveness of our intervention and prevention strategies is the lack of studies assessing mortality benefit, but in part also a reflection of the low mortality in our IBD population. In practice, it is imperative to weigh the risks of cancer or other treatment-related complications in the context of disease progression as a result of lack of or ineffective treatment for IBD when tailoring a management plan for each patient.
Our goal was to explore racial socialization practices in Asian American families during a time of heightened racial tension.
Asian Americans hold a complex racial position in the United States, made even more complicated by an increase in public protests regarding socioracial injustices in the United States experienced by racial minority groups. Discussions about race and ethnicity occur within Asian American families but often focus on cultural heritage rather than awareness of discrimination and the historical roots of racism.
Our study used an inductive-deductive thematic analysis to collect data from 12 Asian American young adults. Semistructured interviews queried participants' experiences with racial socialization in their nuclear families and their own racial identity.
Qualitative analysis revealed the following themes (a) Participants received limited messages regarding racial issues, (b) participants engaged in "bottom-up" racial socialization and taught their parents about race, and (c) participants felt left out of society's racial dialogue.
During this time of heightened racial tension, Asian American young adults struggle to find their place, despite wanting to participate in community building.
Without strong Asian American racial socialization practices in families, young adults must educate themselves and initiate racial meaning-making in their families.

We also examined differences in these constructs by sexual intercourse experience and gender. Participants were 171 adolescents who had been in a dating or sexual relationship in the past year (M age=16.32 years; 64.3% girls). Compared to girls, boys had more positive sexual self-concepts but less self-efficacy to communicate with their partners about sex. Adolescents who reported having had sexual intercourse had more positive sexual self-concepts as well as more frequent partner sexual communication compared to adolescents without sexual intercourse experience. Adolescents with a more positive sexual self-concept had higher sexual communication self-efficacy and reported more frequent sexual communication. In addition, sexual communication self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between sexual self-concept and sexual communication. Results highlight the connection between sexual self-concept and sexual communication and contribute to a growing body of work on the positive aspects of adolescent sexuality.gem-Difluoroalkenes are readily available fluorinated building blocks, and the fluorine-induced electronic perturbations of the alkenes enables a wide array of selective functionalization reactions. However, many reactions of gem-difluoroalkenes result in a net C─F functionalization to generate monofluorovinyl products or addition of F to generate trifluoromethyl-containing products. In contrast, fluorine-retentive strategies for the functionalization of gem-difluoroalkenes remain less generally developed, and is now becoming a rapidly developing area. This review will present the development of fluorine-retentive strategies including electrophilic, nucleophilic, radical, and transition metal catalytic strategies with an emphasis on key physical organic and mechanistic aspects that enable reactivities.
