Moisture content values were obtained in laboratory tests with MSW samples collected in two vertical holes and electrical resistivity measurements by means of vertical electrical sounding. The moisture content and the resistivity values of the samples were used to calculate the parameters a and m of Archie's law. This allowed to convert the resistivity tomography to moisture content tomography. The good correlation achieved between the moisture content calculated by Archie's law and that obtained from samples indicates that the use of electrical resistivity methods is useful to assess and monitor quantitatively the moisture content in landfills using Archie's law.

This study updates the current evidence on the role of allografts versus autografts for medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction in patients with patellofemoral instability.

The study was performed according to the PRISMA guidelines. In March 2021, a literature search in the main online databases was performed. Studies reporting quantitative data concerning primary MPFL reconstruction using an allograft were considered for inclusion. The Coleman Methodology Score was used to assess the methodological quality of the selected articles.

Data from 12 studies (474 procedures) were retrieved. The mean follow-up was 42.2 (15-78.5) months. The mean age was 21.1 ± 6.2years. 64.9% (285 of 439) of patients were female. At the last follow-up, the Tegner (p < 0.0001), Kujala (p = 0.002) and the Lysholm (p < 0.0001) scores were minimally greater in the autografts. The similarity was found in the rate of persistent instability sensation and revision. The allograft group evidenced a lower rate of re-dislocations (p = 0.003).

Allografts may represent a feasible alternative to traditional autograft for MPFL reconstruction in selected patients with patellofemoral instability. Allograft tendons yielded similar PROMs, rates of persistent instability, and revision. Allograft reconstructions tended to have modestly lower re-dislocation rates.

Percutaneous catheter drainage (PCD) is the mainstream treatment for pyogenic liver abscess (PLA). However, in some patients with severe coagulopathy, there may increase the risk of bleeding complications related to PCD. Therefore, this study was aimed to evaluate the incidence of bleeding complications of PCD in PLA patients complicated with coagulopathy.

Between January 2011 and September 2019, patients diagnosed with PLA who had undergone PCD were selected retrospectively. Based on the preoperative coagulation parameters, the patients were divided into the coagulopathy group (PLT ≤ 50 × 10

/L or INR ≥ 1.5) and the normal coagulation group. The major and minor bleeding complications related to PCD were compared between the two groups. The ICU occupancy and mortality rates in the coagulopathy group were assessed and compared with patients of normal coagulation group.

A total of 583 PLA patients subjected to PCD were selected. 522 patients were finally included in this study 64 cases (12.26%) in the coagulopathy group and 458 cases (87.74%) in the normal coagulation group. No major bleeding complications related to PCD was observed. Two patients (0.38%) of minor bleeding complications, one patient in each group, showed no statistically significant difference (0.2% vs.1.6%, P > 0.05). The ICU occupancy rate of coagulopathy group was significantly higher than normal coagulation group (6.2% vs. 0.7%, P < 0.05). No significant difference in mortality rate was noted between the two groups (4.7% vs.1.5%, P > 0.05).

The incidence of bleeding complications related to PCD in PLA patients is rare even if complicated with coagulopathy.In this study, the concentrations of six toxic metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in surface sediments within the Yangtze, Yellow, Pearl, and Liaohe rivers, China, were analyzed, and their associated pollution statuses and potential ecological risks were assessed using the geoaccumulation index (Igeo), sediment quality guidelines (SQGs), and the potential ecological risk index (RI). Relatively high toxic metal concentrations were observed in the Pearl and Yangtze rivers, whereas relatively low concentrations were observed in the Yellow and Liaohe rivers. In the Yangtze, Pearl, and Liaohe rivers, the concentrations of these six toxic metals were higher than their background values. Based on the SQGs, the concentrations of Cd, Cr, and Cu in the four rivers were found to be higher than the threshold effect levels (TELs) but lower than the probable effect levels (PELs); however, the concentration of Ni exceeded the PEL in the Pearl River sediments. The Igeo index indicated that all four rivers were heavily contaminated with Cd. The RI of the Pearl and Yellow rivers was classed as high and low, respectively, and that of the Yangtze and Liaohe rivers as moderate. The pollution status of the sediments in the four major rivers was explored in relation to the geochemical background, the ecological toxicity of metals, and the sensitivity of the local benthic communities.
