Hence, we decided to review our practice. This is to firstly highlight the predictive factors of node metastasis and secondly, to evaluate the effectiveness of intraoperative examination of the sentinel node. Although great progress has been made in early diagnosis and combined treatment of CRC, the prognosis of patients remains poor owing to the high rate of recurrence and distant metastasis. To evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of CXCR7 in colorectal adenoma and carcinoma and to analyze its correlation with clinicopathological factors. This is retrospective study including 58 colonic adenocarcinoma specimens and 18 cases of colonic adenoma.

CXCR7 showed positive cytoplasmic expression in two out 18 cases of colorectal adenoma (11%) and 42 out of 58 cases of CRC (72.4%) with a significant difference between both (p<0.001). We found a significant correlation between upregulation of CXCR7 and presence of lymphovascular tumor emboli, presence of lymph node metastasis and advanced TNM stage of the CRC. The association of the CXCR7 with patient age, sex, tumor size, depth of invasion and tumor cell differentiation was found to be non-significant. Regarding colonic adenoma, we found no significant association between CXCR7 expression on one hand and patient age, sex, tumor size, histologic type and degree of dysplasia on the other hand.

They occur predominantly in men in the 5th and 6th decades of life. LECs are true cysts lined by stratified squamous epithelium with adjacent subepithelial lymphoid tissue. They range in size from 1.2 to 17 cm (mean size 4.6 cm) and can arise in any part of the pancreas. 1 LEC resembles other benign and malignant pancreatic cysts clinically and radiologically. The cytomorphologic features of LECs have been described in a small number of case reports and it has been indicated that features may overlap with other benign and malignant pancreatic lesions. Herein, we report clinical, radiological, cytological and histopathological features of a pancreatic LEC in a 62-year-old male.

Documented cases of actinomycosis in archaeological skeletons are very rare, especially from Central Europe. Our contribution will help facilitate the differential diagnosis of this disease for other paleopathologists.

This paper describes a pathological finding of the skeleton of a 40-year-old male from a burial ground in Sady-Špitálky (Czech Republic) dated to the 10th-12th century.

The affected skeleton was evaluated as a probable case of actinomycosis on the basis of a detailed macroscopic, X-ray and histological examination. The osteolytic foci examined were compared with similar changes caused by tuberculosis, syphilis and mycoses.

The character and location of the defect on the mandible is indicative of organ actinomycosis and is also reflected by the lytic lesion observed on a lumbar vertebra.

The described case can be considered one of the very rare paleopathological findings of possible actinomycosis in humans in Central Europe.

Good evidence of bone actinomycosis findings may be beneficial for further paleopathological and epidemiological studies, especially for research focused on the diachronic development of actinomycosis in Europe. In doing so, all available factors, such as hygiene habits, nutrition, social structure and overall health of the population that could be causally related to its origin, course and treatment, can be taken into account.

Differential diagnosis of the lesions was made through macroscopic and Computed Tomography (CT) analyses.

Four mandibles (n = 3, Guardo, Palencia; n = 1, León) presented bone cavities on the lingual aspect of the mandible below the mylohyoid channel, between the first molar and the angle of the mandible. CT scan showed unilateral well-defined unilocular oval/round concavities in the lingual mandibular cortex below the inferior alveolar canal. Neither the macroscopic nor the radiological characteristics are compatible with inflammatory or malignant pathology, favoring instead a diagnosis of Stafne's bone defect.

Four cases of Stafne's defects are added to the bioarchaeological inventory. The calculated prevalence is 2.54% for San Juan Bautista and 4% for Plaza del Grano, values in close agreement to those presented in other osteoarchaeological studies.

The identification of all examples of Stafne's bone defects in past populations will contribute to elucidate which factors may be responsible for this trait's cultural, ecological, temporal, and geographical patterning.

Recently, a novel type of stress caused by an extended light period has been described in Arabidopsis thaliana and was named photoperiod stress. Although photoperiod stress causes the induction of numerous stress response genes of which many are indicators of oxidative stress, the exact timing and mechanisms involved in dealing with this stress have not yet been investigated. We describe the response of the cellular redox system in wild-type Arabidopsis, the photoperiod stress sensitive cytokinin receptor mutant ahk2 ahk3 and the clock mutant cca1 lhy. Photoperiod stress caused several changes in the ROS scavenging system including a reduction of the ascorbic acid (AsA) redox status and strong peroxide formation during the night following the extended photoperiod. The changes were associated with reduced catalase (CAT) and increased apoplastic peroxidase (PRX) activities. Consistently, the expression of the apoplastic PRX genes PRX4, PRX33, PRX34 and PRX71 was strongly induced by photoperiod stress. We show that extending the light period by only few hours causes a stress response during the following night suggesting that the photoperiod stress response might occur in a natural setting.
