Additionally, to further validate the reliability of the interactions and binding affinities between drugs and targets, docking, Molecular dynamics Simulations (MD) simulations and Molecular Mechanics/Poisson-Boltzmann Surface Area approach (MM-PBSA) calculations were carried out. The results demonstrate that SFJDC regulates the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory related targets on multiple pathways through its active ingredients, showing the potential anti-novel coronavirus effect. Overall, the work can provide a better understanding of the therapeutic mechanism of SFJDC for treating SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia from multi-scale perspectives, and may also offer a valuable clue for developing novel pharmaceutical strategies to control the current coronavirus. This paper reviews the challenges faced by cytology laboratories during the COVID-19 pandemic. Various safety guidelines regarding collection, handling, transport and sampling in cytology laboratory are presented. A brief literature overview of adapted changes regarding new safety techniques, processing, sampling techniques implemented by the cytology laboratories in this part of the world is presented. The use of cytology in COVID-19 patients is discussed. The authors have also tried to present the challenges and changes faced for training and education during this time. Migration from multi-headed scope in-person sign-out to digital based platforms were adapted to continue medical education. The potential long-term implications of these adaptations on cytology services are also touched upon.
Cardiac adverse events are common among patients presenting with acute stroke and contribute to overall morbidity and mortality. Prophylactic measures for the reduction of cardiac adverse events in hospitalized stroke patients have not been well understood. Lenalidomide mouse We sought to investigate the effect of early initiation of high-dose intravenous magnesium sulfate on cardiac adverse events in stroke patients.
This is a secondary analysis of the prehospital Field Administration of Stroke Therapy-Magnesium (FAST-MAG) randomized phase-3 clinical trial, conducted from 2005-2013. Consecutive patients with suspected acute stroke and a serum magnesium level within 72 hours of enrollment were selected. Twenty grams of magnesium sulfate or placebo was administered in the ambulance starting with a 15-minute loading dose intravenous infusion followed by a 24-hour maintenance infusion in the hospital.
Among 1126 patients included in the analysis of this study, 809 (71.8%) patients had ischemic stroke, 277 (24.6%) had hemorrhents.
Working mothers are a population experiencing heightened levels of parenting stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the associations between parenting stress, quality of life, and physical activity in a national sample of working mothers who endorsed having been forced to work from home full-time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and examine if physical activity moderates the association between parenting stress and quality of life in this sample of working mothers.
Participants in this cross-sectional study were 200 full-time working mothers from the United States (mean age=33.50 years; SD=6.25; 70.0% White). Participants were recruited from a Qualtrics research panel and completed the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short-Form, the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale-Brief Version, the Parental Stress Scale, and a demographic questionnaire.
After controlling for socio-demographic variables (i.e., maternal marital status, annual incometing stress on social relationships and satisfaction with one's environment in working mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dexmedetomidine, an α2 agonist, has well-known anesthetic and analgesic-sparing effects. We designed this study to evaluate the effect of intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion on intra operative blood loss and postoperative pain in functional endoscopic sinus surgery.
This prospective cohort study included 90 patients planning to undergo endoscopic sinus surgery, who were randomly divided into three groups. 2 to 2.5 mg/kg of propofol was used in all groups to induce anesthesia. One group received dexmedetomidine 0.2 μg/kg per hour infusion whereas the other group received dexmedetomidine 0.5 μg/kg per hour infusion. The control group received normal saline infusion.
The mean age of patients was 41.02 ± 11.93. 33 patients in the dexmedetomidine 0.2 μg/kg/h group, 30 patients in the dexmedetomidine 0.5 μg/kg/h group and 27 patients in the placebo group. The lowest amount of bleeding was related to the dexmedetomidine 0.5 μg/kg/h group. The volume of bleeding between the three groups was significantly different (
= 0.012). The satisfaction of the surgeon in the dexmedetomidine 0.5 μg/kg/h group was more than other groups. There was a significant relationship between the satisfaction of the surgeon and the treatment groups (
< 0.001). The lowest duration of surgery was related to the dexmedetomidine 0.2 μg/kg/h group. The most Trinitroglycerin (TNG) consumption was in the placebo group and the highest dose of labetalol was in the dexmedetomidine 0.5 μg/kg/h group. There was no significant difference in the TNG and labetalol consumption between three groups. The lowest consumption of morphine and pethidine in the dexmedetomidine 0.5 μg/kg/h group.
Infusion of dexmedetomidine 0.5 μg/kg/h decreased blood loss and consumption of morphine and pethidine in patients who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery.
Infusion of dexmedetomidine 0.5 μg/kg/h decreased blood loss and consumption of morphine and pethidine in patients who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery.
Newly formed polyploids may experience short-term adaptative changes in their genome that may enhance the resistance of plants to stress. Considering the increasingly serious effects of drought on biofuel plants, whole genome duplication (WGD) may be an efficient way to proceed with drought resistant breeding. However, the molecular mechanism of drought response before/after WGD remains largely unclear.
We found that autoploid switchgrass (
L.) 8X Alamo had higher drought tolerance than its parent amphidiploid 4X Alamo using physiological tests. RNA and microRNA sequencing at different time points during drought were then conducted on 8X Alamo and 4X Alamo switchgrass. The specific differentially expressed transcripts (DETs) that related to drought stress (DS) in 8X Alamo were enriched in ribonucleoside and ribonucleotide binding, while the drought-related DETs in 4X Alamo were enriched in structural molecule activity. Ploidy-related DETs were primarily associated with signal transduction mechanisms. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) detected three significant DS-related modules, and their DETs were primarily enriched in biosynthesis process and photosynthesis.
