05). The axial stiffness of Groups A, B and C were 122.4800 ±8.8480 N/mm, 168.4830 ±14.8091 N/mm and 83.1300 ±3.8091 N/mm, respectively. Group B was significantly stiffer than A and C (p 0.05). Health education is an elements of patient treatment aimed at improving the level of self-care and adherence to the treatment recommendations. OBJECTIVES To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the available literature in order to determine the role of health education in HF treatment and its impact on outcomes in patients with chronic HF. MATERIAL AND METHODS A search was performed in the MEDLINE, PubMed and Scopus databases from January 2010 to January 2019 for the impact of health education on treatment outcomes in HF patients. RESULTS A total of 16 studies from 12 countries on 5 continents were analyzed. The meta-analysis focused on the impact of education on outcomes in 944 study group patients. We found that the overall impact of education on outcomes was positive (+1 standard deviation (SD); 95% confidence interval (95% CI) >0). After education was provided, the target patients improved in terms of self-care (mean change (MC) = 13.49; p = 0.003; I² = 99.47%). Self-care also improved in the controls, but the improvement was less marked (MC = 9.56; p = 0.001; I² = 98.33%). No impact of education on quality of life (QoL) was confirmed (95% CI = 0). CONCLUSIONS The greatest benefit of education is seen in terms of adherence to pharmaceutical treatment and self-care, while QoL was not associated with education.Dupilumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody directed against the interleukin (IL)-4 receptor α subunit (IL-4Rα) of IL-4 heterodimeric type I and type II receptors that mediate IL-4/IL-13 signaling through this pathway. Blockade of these receptors broadly suppresses type 2 inflammation associated with atopic/allergic diseases, including atopic dermatitis and asthma. Six phase 1 studies investigated the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, safety, and tolerability of dupilumab in healthy subjects. Two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, sequential studies assessed safety and tolerability of single escalating dupilumab doses administered intravenously or subcutaneously (one included various racial groups, and one included exclusively Japanese subjects); 3 randomized, parallel-group, single-dose studies compared the pharmacokinetic profiles of different dupilumab products and formulations after single subcutaneous doses; and one study assessed dupilumab administered as fast versus slow subcutaneous indicals LLC on behalf of American College of Clinical Pharmacology.BACKGROUND The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) surgical risk calculator provides an estimate preoperatively of operative risks including mortality; however, its utility is not known in Australian emergency general surgical patients. This study sought to determine accuracy of the calculator in predicting outcome of high-risk patients in an Australian acute surgical unit to establish if this calculator could be a useful tool to identify high-risk patients in an Australian setting. METHODS Retrospective analysis of patients admitted to the acute surgical unit at a tertiary referral centre between 2018 and 2019 was conducted. High-risk patients were defined as those who underwent an emergency operation with an ACS-NSQIP surgical mortality score ≥5%. Post-operative outcomes assessed included mortality and return to operating theatre, readmission and discharge to nursing home. External validation of the calculator was performed using discrimination and calibration statistics. RESULTS Over a 14-month period, 58 patients were high risk, with an average age of 75 years, 93% were classified as functionally independent/partially dependent and 91.4% underwent a laparotomy. Overall 30-day mortality rate was 20.7%. The ACS-NSQIP calculator was a reliable predictor of mortality, with c-statistic of 0.835 (0.654-0.977), Brier score of 0.125 (0.081-0.176) and Hosmer-Lemeshow statistic of 0.389. The calculator was less accurate in its prediction of other outcomes assessed. CONCLUSION The ACS-NSQIP calculator accurately approximated mortality in high-risk Australian patients requiring emergency surgery. This study has demonstrated that in this patient population, the calculator could reliably be applied in the multidisciplinary care of emergency surgical patients. © 2020 Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. This paper describes the preparation of 3D polymer monoliths containing internal hierarchical porosity. The porous networks are fabricated based on Pickering high-internal-phase emulsions (HIPEs) stabilized by microporous β-cyclodextrin-based polymer particles (CDPs) as the emulsifier; CDPs are facilely synthesized by the polyaddition reactions without the need for catalysts. The designed Pickering agents enable to form a bicontinuous internal phase in 82 cyclohexane-water v/v, and the oil droplets in the continuous water phase is found to be fairly stable up to 1 month. Furthermore, the addition of acrylamide and N,N'-methylenebis(acrylamide) results in polymer networks after in situ thermal polymerization at 60 °C in the water phase, and the monoliths include both interconnected macropores from the HIPE template and micro- and mesopores from the CDPs embedded at the interface. The porous monoliths rapidly absorb a variety of solvents taking advantage of multiscale porosity and amphiphilicity. Furthermore, the materials can be efficiently used for the removal of aromatic pollutants and then reused after washing and drying without the deterioration of performance. Also, they exhibit high photocatalytic capability and good recyclability as being used as a catalytic support when embedded with titanium dioxide (TiO2 ). © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
