Radiotherapy as an adjuvant therapy to surgical resection has shown variable rates of recurrence treating earlobe keloids. The purpose of this study was to describe our experience with surgical excision followed by high-dose-rate brachytherapy and present our outcomes after 24 months of follow-up.

Retrospective chart of 14 patients with 14 earlobe keloids treated with surgical excision followed by high-dose-rate brachytherapy, between January 2015 and May 2016 were enrolled. Database included demographics, Fitzpatrick skin type, laterality, lesion size, and follow-up visits information. Outcomes were assessed in terms of keloid recurrence rates, complications, and patient subjective aesthetical result satisfaction after 24 months of follow-up.

All procedures were completed without complications. Three patients experienced keloid recurrence after 6 (14.28%) and 12 months (7.14%). Three patients experienced mild signs of self-limited post-radiation dermatitis. Self-assessment of aesthetical result was considered "very good" in 71.43% of patients.

Surgical excision followed by high-dose-rate brachytherapy is secure and effective to treat earlobe keloids, and can be considered a first line combined treatment. Larger clinical trials comparing different irradiation protocols are still needed.

Mandibular fracture is considered the second most common facial fracture worldwide. We aimed to evaluate the epidemiology of mandibular fractures in traumatic patients hospitalized at Velayat Teaching Hospital in Rasht, Iran for 6-year.

In this retrospective study, all traumatic patients with mandibular fractures admitted to Velayat Teaching Hospital, Rasht, northern Iran for 6-year (2013-18) were enrolled. The data collection tool was a checklist consisting of two parts demographic information, and injury data. All data were collected through the Hospital Information System (HIS), and analyzed using SPSS software and descriptive and analytical statistics tests.

Overall, 463 hospitalized patients were reviewed. Males had higher frequency than females. The most common accident place was rural roads. The most frequent mechanism of fractures was road accidents. The most common injuries occurred in motorcyclists, followed by car passengers, pedestrians, and cyclists. The highest and lowest frequency of injury occurred in September, and February, respectively. The most common site of fracture was condyle, followed by trunk. In concurrent fractures, the most frequently affected site was maxillary bone, followed by zygomatic bones, orbital, nasal, and frontal bones.

This study was conducted to assess the epidemiology of burn and lethal area of fifty percentage (LA50) in children in Shiraz, Southern Iran.

In this case series study, 619 hospitalized burn children from burn centers affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran from 2012 to 2016 were enrolled. Demographic characteristics of patients such as age, gender, place and cause of burn, and morality rate were evaluated. LA50 was measured using Probit analysis.

The mean age of patients was 4.4±3.4 years. The mortality rate in burn patients was 8.7% and LA50 of total body surface area (TBSA%) ranged from 40.1% in 2012 to 68.3% in 2016. Although the number of male burn patients (65%) was more than females (35%), the mortality rate in females was more than males (11.4% vs. 7.2%). Scald and flame were the most common causes of burn.

Previous studies in pediatric populations have demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency is common in patients with large burns. The aim of the current comparative study was to investigate the serum level of vitamin D in patients with large burns [>20% total body surface area (TBSA)] after 6 months of therapy.
