Suicide among students enrolled in post-secondary education, including university or college, is a major public health concern. Previous research has examined the effectiveness of suicide prevention programs for this population. However, the effective elements of these interventions remain unknown. This study reviewed the literature on suicide prevention programs for post-secondary students, exploring and identifying those elements likely contributing to their effectiveness. A scoping review process was undertaken exploring suicide prevention programs for post-secondary students. Methodological quality of the articles was assessed, and content analysis was used to explore the programs and their effective elements. Twenty seven articles were included in this review, covering a variety of approaches. Gatekeeper training programs were the most common type of suicide prevention program. Programs for post-secondary students may be effective in improving student rates of engagement with mental health services and were associated with greater knowledge, and help-seeking attitudes and behaviors, and gatekeeper-related outcomes. While evidence was found supporting the effectiveness of some interventions such as gatekeeper programs to influence suicide-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviour, further and more rigorous research surrounding suicide prevention programs for post-secondary students is required, with a particular emphasis on student outcomes.

Alcohol-induced osteonecrosis femoral head necrosis (ONFH) is a disease that seriously affects human health. Abnormal expression of L3MBTL3/PTPN9 gene can cause a variety of human diseases. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of L3MBTL3/PTPN9 gene polymorphism on the susceptibility of alcohol-induced ONFH in Chinese Han population.

A total of 308 alcohol-induced ONFH patients and 425 healthy controls were enrolled in this case-control study. Alleles, genotypes, genetic models, haplotypes, and multifactor dimensionality reduction analyses (MDR) based on age-corrected by using odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were performed.

Our result revealed rs2068957 in the L3MBTL3 gene increased the risk of alcohol ONFH under the recessive model after correction. Besides, we also found that rs75393192 in the PTPN9 gene was a protective site in stratification over 40years of age and stage. In stratified analysis of necrotic sites, we only found that rs2068957 was associated with increased susceptibility of alcohol-induced ONFH under the co-dominant model and recessive model. Haplotype "GC" in the block (rs76107647|rs10851882 in PTPN9 gene) significantly decreased the susceptibility of alcoholic ONFH.

Our results provide evidence that L3MBTL3/PTPN9 polymorphisms are associated with alcohol-induced ONFH risk in Chinese Han population.

The assessment of Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression has become a game changer in the treatment of patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We aimed to investigate the ability of Radiomics applied to computed tomography (CT) in predicting PD-L1 expression in patients with advanced NSCLC.

By applying texture analysis, we retrospectively analyzed 72 patients with advanced NSCLC. The datasets were randomly split into a training cohort (2/3) and a validation cohort (1/3). Forty radiomic features were extracted by manually drawing tumor volumes of interest (VOIs) on baseline contrast-enhanced CT. After selecting features on the training cohort, two predictive models were created using binary logistic regression, one for PD-L1 values ≥ 50% and the other for values between 1 and 49%. The two models were analyzed with ROC curves and tested in the validation cohort.

The Radiomic Score (Rad-Score) for PD-L1 values ≥ 50%, which consisted of Skewness and Low Gray-Level Zone Emphasis (GLZLM_LGZE), presented a cut-off value of -0.745 with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.811 and 0.789 in the training and validation cohort, respectively. HIV activator The Rad-Score for PD-L1 values between 1 and 49% consisted of Sphericity, Skewness, Conv_Q3 and Gray Level Non-Uniformity (GLZLM_GLNU), showing a cut-off value of 0.111 with AUC of 0.763 and 0.806 in the two population, respectively.

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the transtheoretical model (TTM)-based exercise training on TTM variables, exercise adherence, and physical function in patients in the early stages after bariatric surgery (BS).

We conducted a single-blinded, prospective, randomized controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate the effects of TTM-based exercise training on BS patients immediately after surgery. Participants (n = 120) were randomized into a TTM-based exercise training group (n = 60) and a control group (n = 60). Main outcomes included TTM variables (measured by exercise stages of change (ESCs), exercise self-efficacy (ESE), and decisional balance), exercise adherence, and physical function (determined by the 6-min walk distance (6MWD)). Secondary outcomes were physical activity, anthropometrics, and body composition. We performed all analyses in accordance with the intention-to-treat principle.

Retention rates for the interventions were 91.7% for the intervention group and 90.0% for the control group. Compared with the control group, the 12-week TTM-based intervention significantly helped participants advance through ESCs, demonstrate higher ESE, perceive more benefits and fewer barriers to exercise, and show higher exercise adherence and better physical function afterward (all P < 0.05). However, we observed no statistically significant difference between the two groups in anthropometric parameters or body composition after intervention.

The TTM-based exercise intervention had significant positive effects on the TTM variables, which could further help increase patients' exercise adherence and physical function immediately after BS.

Therefore, the objective of this analysis was to assess the relationships between household water insecurity and HIV-related outcomes among adults living with HIV in western Kenya (N = 716). We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of baseline data from Shamba Maisha (NCT02815579), a cluster randomized controlled trial of a multisectoral agricultural and asset loan intervention. Baseline data were collected from June 2016 to December 2017. We assessed associations between water insecurity and HIV-related outcomes, adjusting for clinical and behavioral confounders, including food insecurity. Each five-unit higher household water insecurity score (range 0-51) was associated with 1.21 higher odds of having a viral load ≥ 1000 copies/mL (95% CI 1.07, 1.36) and 1.26 higher odds of AIDS-defining illness (95% CI 1.11, 1.42). Household water insecurity was not associated with CD4 cell count (B 0.27; 95% CI -3.59, 13.05). HIV treatment and support programs should consider assessing and addressing water insecurity in addition to food insecurity to optimize HIV outcomes.Abnormal migration of subventricular zone (SVZ)-derived neural progenitor cells (SDNPs) is involved in the pathological and epileptic processes of focal cortical dysplasias (FCDs), but the underlying mechanisms are not clear. Recent studies indicated that high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1)/receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) are widely expressed in epileptic specimens of FCDs, which suggests that the HMGB1-RAGE pathway is involved in the pathological and/or epileptic processes of FCDs. The present study used Nestin-GFPtg/+ transgenic mice, and we established a model of freezing lesion (FL), as described in our previous report. A "migrating stream" composed of GFP-Nestin+ SDNPs was derived from the SVZ region and migrated to the cortical FL area. We found that translocated HMGB1 and RAGE were expressed in cortical lesion in a clustered distribution pattern, which was especially obvious in the early stage of FL compared to the sham group. Notably, the number of GFP-Nestin+ SDNPs within the "migrating stream" was significantly decreased when the HMGB1-RAGE pathway was blocked by a RAGE antagonist or deletion of the RAGE gene. The absence of RAGE also decreased the activity of pentylenetetrazol-induced cortical epileptiform discharge. In summary, this study provided experimental evidence that the levels of extranuclear HMGB1 and its receptor RAGE were increased in cortical lesion in the early stage of the FL model. Activation of the HMGB1-RAGE pathway may contribute to the abnormal migration of SDNPs and the hyperexcitability of cortical lesion in the FL model.

Poorly differentiated colorectal cancers are more aggressive. Metabolism reprogramming is a significant hallmark in cancer, and aerobic glycolysis is common. However, how cancer cells reprogramming glucose metabolism contributes to cell differentiation was largely unknown. Previous studies have reported that tumor suppressor NDRG2 could promote colorectal cancers differentiation.

This study aims to demonstrate that NDRG2 promotes the differentiation of colorectal cancers, potentially through the inhibition of aerobic glycolysis via TXNIP induction.

Western blotting, qRT-PCR and immunohistochemical staining were used to detect the expression of related molecules. MTT assay was used to reflect cell viability and proliferation. Immunofluorescent assay was performed to identify the expression and distribution of molecules. Luciferase analysis and CHIP assays were used to investigate the mechanism. Bioinformatic analysis was performed to predict the relevance.

In colorectal cancers, NDRG2 could inhibit cell proliferation, reduce glucose uptake and decrease expression of key glycolysis enzymes. Upregulated NDRG2 is associated with differentiated cancer. However, deletion of TXNIP, a classic glucose metabolism inhibitor, could obviously alter the function of NDRG2 in differentiation, glucose uptake, expression of key glycolysis enzymes and proliferation. Mechanistically, high glucose flux promotes the activity of TXNIP promoter. And NDRG2 promotes the occupancy of transcription factor Mondo A on TXNIP promoter, predominantly through the suppression of c-myc, which could complete with Mondo A binding to TXNIP promoter. In clinical samples, high expression of TXNIP indicates good prognosis and outcome.
