This study evaluated sexual function, the influence of the relationship with the intimate partner, and the factors related to sexual function in middle-aged Spanish women.
The methodology entailed a cross-sectional study of 187 sexually active women aged 40-59 years. The participants were randomly recruited from primary public health care. They completed the 6-item Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI-6), the short-form Woman Abuse Screening Tool (WAST), and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential analysis was performed.
The participants' median age was 49 years, 90.4% had a steady intimate partner, 54.5% were postmenopausal, 43.3% had chronic diseases, 12.3% reported alcohol abuse, and 35.8% smoked. The prevalence of low sexual function was 33.16% in all the women, and 44.12% in the postmenopausal women (an FSFI-6 total score ≤ 19 reflects low sexual function). WAST screening detected 17.65% cases of intimate partner violence (WAST total score ≤ 1), with low sexual function in 87.9%. Multiple linear regression analysis models revealed that the lowest total FSFI-6 scores (worst sexual function) were negatively associated with intimate partner violence (IPV), depression, hysterectomy, and associated female issues. The scores in the FSFI-6 domains (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain) were linked to IPV (P < 0.001), except for lubrication (P < 0.001 postmenopausal).

J Strength Cond Res 35(5) 1338-1344, 2021-To quantify changes in neuromuscular function over a full professional men's ice hockey season, 27 players (n = 18 forwards and 9 defensemen) performed 3 countermovement jumps (CMJ) each week over 30 sessions separated into 4 phases preseason, early-season, midseason, and late-season. Outcome variables represented jump performance (jump height), kinematics (mean velocity and peak velocity), and movement strategy (countermovement depth). Mixed models characterized relationships between positional group, season phase, and CMJ outcomes. Statistical significance was set at p ≤ 0.05. Concentric peak velocity (p = 0.02), jump height (p = 0.001), and countermovement depth (p < 0.001) displayed a significant reduction across the season. Peak velocity was lower during the early-season than the preseason (-0.10 ± 0.06 m·s-1e early-season (-0.06 ± 0.03 m, p = 0.02), midseason (-0.10 ± 0.04 m, p = 0.002), and late-season (-0.15 ± 0.04 m, p less then 0.001) relative to the preseason. Reductions in CMJ variables from preseason to in-season ranged from trivial to large. Changes in countermovement depth differed for forwards and defensemen by the season phase (p = 0.04). A professional ice hockey season decreases CMJ performance, with the effects of fatigue most prominent during the late-season phase. Countermovement depth was most sensitive to fatigue and differentiated positional-group responses. Frequent CMJ testing is useful for identifying the neuromuscular status of team-sport athletes relative to season-specific phases. Fatigue monitoring should incorporate movement-strategy variables alongside traditional measures of performance and kinematics.

Ten female handball players with poor hamstring flexibility completed 3 randomly sequenced experimental visits. During each visit, a different warm-up protocol (general running warm-up [GW], dynamic stretching [DS], or DS combined with vibration foam rolling [DS + VR]) was delivered before the subsequent tests quadriceps and hamstring muscle stiffness, knee extension and flexion range of motion (ROM), knee joint position sense, knee extension and flexion isokinetic strength with hamstring-quadriceps strength ratio, and muscle endurance during fatiguing exercise. J Strength Cond Res XX(X) 000-000, 2021-Bodybuilding involves the pursuit of muscularity and leanness primarily through the use of progressive resistance training in combination with other practices such as manipulation of diet and use of ergogenic aids. This study aimed to compare the training practices and ergogenic aids used by competitive male bodybuilders across training phases. An online survey was completed by 235 competitive male bodybuilders with a median age of 26.0 (interquartile range 23.0-31.3) years. Results showed that most respondents performed split-routines (85.5%), 4-7 sessions per week (95.7%), trained major muscle groups twice a week (>50%), and session duration being 60-90 minutes (55.7%). Off-season resistance training sessions mostly comprised of targeting 2-3 muscle groups (56%), 2-3 exercises per muscle group (60.4%), 3-4 sets per exercise (73.2%), 7-12 r 2-3 muscle groups (56%), 2-3 exercises per muscle group (60.4%), 3-4 sets per exercise (73.2%), 7-12 repetition maximum (RM) per set (71.6%), and 61-180 seconds recovery between sets and exercises (80.5%). At the precompetition phase (6 weeks before competition), there was a decrease in the number of muscle groups trained per session (p = 0.027) and a greater number of repetitions performed per set (p less then 0.001). A significant increase in the reported aerobic exercise volume was found during precompetition ( less then 0.001). Performance enhancing drugs were used by 53.6% of respondents who did not compete in natural bodybuilding competitions. Dietary supplements were used by 95.7% of respondents with the most common being creatine monohydrate (80.4%) and whey protein (65.8%). Findings suggest that competitive bodybuilders follow resistance training practices consistent with the broad muscular hypertrophy recommendations but a notable shift in practices occur in the weeks before competition.
