In this proof-of-concept study, a cohort of well-trained volunteers has been split in two equal groups and administered with micro-doses of EPO or EPO + GH every second day for two weeks. Urine and plasma samples have been collected before, during and after the treatment and analyzed using metabolomics and lipidomics approaches. The results show that, applying a direct discriminant analysis on the treated groups, it is possible to distinguish the treatments, and to use this difference to classify them correctly. High intragroup variability is observed, due to the subject-specific effect of the hormones. HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES Determine the effects of clopidogrel and prednisone on platelet function. ANIMALS Twenty-four healthy dogs. METHODS Double-blinded, placebo-controlled randomized trial. Platelet function was evaluated using a platelet function analyzer and impedance aggregometry (days 0, 14, and 28) for dogs treated with placebo, clopidogrel (2-3 mg/kg/d), prednisone (2 mg/kg/d), or prednisone with clopidogrel PO for 28 days. Results were categorized as nonresponder versus responder (platelet function analyzer), and inadequate, ideal, or excessive response (aggregometry). Results were compared using mixed model, split-plot repeated measures analysis of variance and generalized estimating equation proportional odds models. P less then  .05 was considered significant. RESULTS Closure times differed by treatment (F [3, 20] = 10.5; P  less then .001), time (F [2, 40] = 14.3; P less then  .001), and treatment-by-time (F [6, 40] = 3.4; P = .01). Area under the curve (AUC) differed by treatment (F [3, 20] = 19.6; P  less then .001), time (F [2, 40] = 35.4; P less then  .001), and treatment-by-time (F [6, 40] = 13.5; P  less then .001). Based on closure times, 5/6 dogs each in the clopidogrel and prednisone/clopidogrel groups were responders. All dogs in the prednisone/clopidogrel group were overcontrolled based on AUC (days 14 and 28), whereas 5/6 (day 14) and 2/6 (day 28) dogs treated with clopidogrel were overcontrolled. Compared to clopidogrel, dogs receiving prednisone/clopidogrel were 11 times (P = .03) more likely to have an excessive response. The established screening database includes retention time, exact mass, fragments, isotopic pattern and MS2 spectra library of the target compounds and thus provides automated search and identification of the targets with a single injection. The non-targeted compounds in the samples are identified through the full MS scan and MS2 data by using the Chemspider database and the data analysis in XCalibur, MassFrontier and TraceFinder software. In addition, this method possesses excellent quantitative capacity. The novel approach was applied to 65 batches of samples that are claimed as "all-natural" products having the antihypertensive function, among which 9 batches were found to be positive. Multiple targeted and non-targeted antihypertensive adulterants were detected at levels ranging from 2.8 to 27.9 mg/g. STUDY SELECTION Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the protective effect of medical masks to N95 respirators in health care workers. DATA EXTRACTION Reviewer pair independently screened, extracted data, and assessed risk of bias and the certainty of the evidence. DATA SYNTHESIS Four RCTs were meta-analysed adjusting for clustering. Compared to N95 respirators; the use of medical masks did not increase laboratory confirmed viral (including coronaviruses) respiratory infection (OR 1.06; 95% CI 0.90-1.25; I2 =0%; low certainty in the evidence) or clinical respiratory illness (OR 1.49; 95%CI 0.98-2.28; I2 =78%; very low certainty in the evidence). Only one trial evaluated coronaviruses separately and found no difference between the two groups (p=0.49). LIMITATIONS Indirectness and imprecision of available evidence. CONCLUSIONS Low certainty evidence suggests that medical masks and N95 respirators offer similar protection against viral respiratory infection including coronavirus in health care workers during non-aerosol generating care. All rights reserved.BACKGROUND AND AIM Prognosis of infiltrative hepatocellular carcinoma (iHCC) is poor and the treatments selection based on efficacy is unclear. We performed this multicenter study to compare the efficacy of hepatic resection and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in treating patients with iHCC. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the overall survivals (OS) in 319 patients with iHCC who were initially treated by hepatic resection (n=133) or TACE (n=186) at four tertiary centers. Fifty-eight patients in the TACE group were assessed as resectable and compared with the hepatic resection group in subgroup analysis. A propensity score matched (PSM) analysis was performed to reduce selection bias. COX regression was performed to identify significant factors associated with OS. RESULTS The median OS time was significantly longer in hepatic resection group than that in TACE group, before and after PSM (before PSM, 17.5 vs. 7.3 months, p400ng/ml. In the subgroup analysis, the better efficacy of hepatic resection over TACE persisted regardless of the grade of portal venous tumor thrombosis and the level of AFP. As for resectable patients, hepatic resection still showed significant survival benefit (before PSM, 17.5 vs. 11.2 months, p=0.0013; after PSM, 14.0 vs 10.9 months, p=0.0304). CONCLUSION Hepatic resection might be the better choice for patients with iHCC due to its better survival benefit than TACE. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.In this study, a novel photo-stimulated molecularly imprinted polymers based on magnetic mesoporous carrier surface, were developed for selective identification and intelligent separation of sulfamerazine in complex samples. The photosensitive monomer of the stimulated molecularly imprinted polymers was azobenzene derivative 5-[(4-(methacryloyloxy)phenyl) diazenyl] isophthalic acid with stimulus reaction mechanisms, which has photoisomerization between trans and cis for N = N bonds. Further, the properties of the photo-stimulated molecularly imprinted polymers were further evaluated through several sets of adsorption experiments. It illustrated that the maximum adsorption amount is 0.45 mmol/L. By ultraviolet spectrophotometer, the material reaches typical characteristic peaks of photo sensitivity, and the cycle time is 16 min. Three adsorption and desorption processes were repeated, the adsorption rate reached 34.4%. Overall, the photo-stimulated molecularly imprinted polymers can enrich and separate determine sulfamerazine with high selectivity, which have good recovery for real samples.
