Contextual stressors, such as engagement in burdensome emotion regulation known as expressive suppression (ES), can result in transient but clinically meaningful decrement in performance on measures of executive functioning (EF). The goal of the present investigation was to examine whether intra-individual variability (IIV-I), which has been identified as an indicator of cognitive weakness, could serve as a marker of vulnerability to EF decrements due to both naturally-occurring and experimentally-manipulated ES.In Study 1, 180 cognitively healthy older adults completed the Push-Turn-Taptap (PTT) task to assess IIV-I, four Delis-Kaplan Executive Function System (D-KEFS) subtests to assess EF, and the Burden of State Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (B-SERQ) to assess naturally-occurring ES. In Study 2, a subset (n = 81) of participants underwent experimental manipulation to induce ES, followed by second administration of the D-KEFS to examine ES-induced decrements in EF.In Study 1, hierarchical linear regression yielded a significant interaction between ES and IIV-I as predictors of EF performance, demonstrating that high ES was associated with low EF only among individuals with high IIV-I. In Study 2, repeated measures ANOVA demonstrated an interaction between time (pre- vs. post- manipulation), group (ES vs. control), and IIV-I (high vs. low), such that only individuals who exhibited high IIV-I were negatively impacted by the ES manipulation.IIV-I moderates the association between ES and EF, such that only individuals with high IIV-I exhibit vulnerability to the impact of ES. Thus, IIV-I may act as a marker of vulnerability to temporary EF depletion.Altered long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) exert pivotal parts in pathogenic processes in glioma. Here, we uncovered a differentially expressed long intergenic non-coding RNA 1088 (LINC01088) in glioma and elucidated the molecular mechanism by which LINC01088 affected the malignant phenotypes of glioma cells. Functionally, LINC01088 silencing degraded cell proliferation, invasion in glioma, while LINC01088 overexpression elicited opposite results. Mechanistically, we verified LINC01088 physically interacted with small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide A (SNRPA) and regulated the expression of SNRPA at the transcription level. Phenotypic analysis ascertained that LINC01088 substantively aggravated glioma cell progression in an SNRPA-dependent manner, and SNRPA played a pivotal part in the tumor-promoting properties of LINC01088. Many digital flashcard platforms allow learners to make or use flashcards from a variety of sources and customise the way in which flashcards are used. Yet relatively little is known about why and how students actually use digital flashcards during self-regulated learning, and whether such uses are supported by research from the science of learning. To address these questions, we conducted a large survey of undergraduate students (n = 901) at a major U.S. university. The survey revealed insights into the popularity, acquisition, and usage of digital flashcards, beliefs about how digital flashcards are to be used during self-regulated learning, and differences in uses of paper versus digital flashcards, all of which have implications for the optimisation of student learning. Overall, our results suggest that college students commonly use digital flashcards in a manner that only partially reflects evidence-based learning principles, and as such, the pedagogical potential of digital flashcards remains to be fully realised.Objective In this study, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and signaling pathways involved in diquat (DQ) and paraquat (PQ) poisoning were identified via bioinformatics analysis, in order to inform the development of novel clinical treatments. Methods Raw data from GSE153959 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. DEGs of the DQ vs. control (CON) and PQ vs. CON comparison groups were identified using R, and DEGs shared by the two groups were identified using TBtools. Subsequently, the shared DEGs were searched in the Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) databases, using the Database for Annotation, Visualization, and Integrated Discovery. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed, and hub genes were identified using the cytoHubba plug-in in Cytoscape software. Finally, circos and contrast plots showing the DEGs shared between mouse and human chromosomes were constructed using TBtools. Results Thirty-one DEGs shared by the DQ and PQ groups we kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. Conclusions These pathways and DEGs may serve as targets for gene therapy.
Identifying pretreatment blood markers that distinguish prognostic groups of patients with advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) under first-line FOLFIRINOX chemotherapy has the potential to improve management of this condition. Aim of this study was to determine the prognostic utility of a range of pretreatment, inflammation-related, blood cell markers in this group of patients.
Data from a training cohort were analyzed to identify potential pretreatment blood markers correlating to survival outcomes. The most informative markers were further analyzed in a validation cohort comprised patients from a geographically separate cancer center undergoing the same treatment.

This large, retrospective, analysis of real-world patients receiving first-line FOLFIRINOX chemotherapy for advanced PDAC has identified the pretreatment blood SIRI as a strong prognostic marker for survival. This will allow better counseling of patients with regards to the benefits of treatment, improved stratification within clinical trials, and potentially identify groups of patients for novel therapy trials as first-line treatment.

Although type I IFN activation has been shown to induce interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) expression in systemic lupus erythematosus, the implication of ISGs expression in intrinsic glomerular cells remains largely unknown.
We treated cultured human glomerular endothelial cells (GECs) with polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly IC), R848, and CpG (TLR3, TLR7, and TLR9 agonists, respectively) and analyzed the expression of DExD/H-Box Helicase 60 (DDX60), a representative ISG, using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and western blotting. Additionally, RNA interference against IFN-β or DDX60 was performed. Furthermore, cleavage of caspase 9 and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), markers of cells undergoing apoptosis, was examined using western blotting. We conducted an immunofluorescence study to examine endothelial DDX60 expression in biopsy specimens from patients with LN.
We observed that endothelial expression of DDX60 was induced by poly IC but not by R848 or CpG, and RNA interference against IFN-β inhibited poly IC-induced DDX60 expression. DDX60 knockdown induced cleavage of caspase 9 and PARP. Intense endothelial DDX60 expression was observed in biopsy specimens from patients with diffuse proliferative LN.

Modulating the upregulation of the regional innate immune system via TLR3 signaling may be a promising treatment target for LN.The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between glucose to lymphocyte ratio (GLR) and the outcome of acute exacerbation chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). This study included 3573 patients from the eICU Collaborative Research Database (eICU-CRD) and 926 AECOPD patients admitted to ICU from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV (MIMIC-IV) database. The optimal cutoff value for GLR was 5.6. Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated that patients in lower GLR ( less then 5.6) group showed a better overall survival than patients in higher GLR (≥ 5.6) group in all sets. Multivariate Cox regression analysis demonstrated that age, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score, SpO2, albumin and GLR are independent predictors of poor overall survival in the training cohort and were incorporated into the nomogram for in-hospital mortality as independent factors. The nomogram exhibited excellent discrimination with C-indexes in training cohort, internal validation and external validation cohort were (0.801, 95%CI 0.769-0.863), (0.805, 95%CI 0.759-0.851) and (0.811, 95%CI 0.772-0.850), respectively. The calibration plot indicated an adequate fit of the nomogram for predicting the risk of in-hospital mortality in all sets. Spontaneous bacterial empyema (SBE) is an infection of a preexisting hepatic hydrothorax (HH). We aim to describe the experience in managing SBE in a liver transplant (LT) referral center and assessing the incidence and mortality rates of SBE after conducting a systematic review.
992 patients with cirrhosis were retrospectively reviewed from 2015 to 2020. SBE was diagnosed by (i) positive microbiological culture and polymorphonuclear leukocyte count >250 cells/µL or (ii) negative microbiological culture, compatible clinical course, and polymorphonuclear count >500 cells/µL in pleural fluid. Furthermore, we conducted a comprehensive literature search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Google Scholar for studies evaluating SBE.
Twelve patients (10.4%) had spontaneous bacterial empyema out of 115 patients with HH. Five patients underwent LT, 6 had died, and 1 did not get transplanted and was alive throughout the duration of follow-up. Ten studies were included in the systematic review.
