These findings suggest that patients may experience unique psychological distress and challenges requiring personalized care strategies to improve obesity self-care and overall well-being.Despite rapid increases in snacking in recent decades, little is known about snacking during infancy. This study explored how low-income mothers define snacks and their reasons for offering snacks during infancy. A recurrent cross-sectional qualitative approach was used to identify themes from semi-structured interviews with low-income mothers when their infants were 6 and 12 months of age. A purposive sample of mothers (N = 15) was recruited from Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) offices and childcare centers serving low-income families in Rhode Island. Mothers also completed demographic and infant feeding questionnaires. Independent thematic analyses were conducted to identify themes from the 6 and 12 month interviews. Themes from the 6 month interviews for how mothers defined snacks were snacks are consumed between meals, snacks are smaller portions, and snacks are sweet. Themes from the 12 month interviews also included snacks are consumed between meals and snacks are smaller portions with one additional theme snacks do not include all food groups. Themes from the 6 month interviews for the reasons mothers offered snacks were infants seemed hungry, infants showed interest, and snacks help manage behavior. Themes from 12 month interviews also included snacks help manage behavior with two additional themes snacks expose infants to different flavors and snacks expose infants to different textures. Findings suggest that snacks are commonly offered during infancy and that mothers define snacks as smaller portions that help with hunger between meals. However, during early infancy mothers describe snacks as sweet, and across infancy report using snacks to manage behavior, underscoring the importance of providing parents with guidance on healthy snacking during the first year of life.Aflatoxins are carcinogenic compounds produced by certain Aspergillus spp and naturally contaminate poultry rations. Exposure to low levels of Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in poultry feeds is the second most threatening issue facing the poultry industry in Egypt; it can cause a reduction in growth, egg production, and compromised immune functions, resulting in significant economic loss. Hence, a safe, effective and eco-friendly detoxification method is strongly required. Biological decontamination is a promising approach to reduce aflatoxin levels within threshold limits. This study explores the biodegradation capacity of bacteria isolated from the moldy feed, soil and poultry feces in various poultry farms against AFB1 (100 ppb), G1 (100 ppb), B2 (30 ppb), G2 (30 ppb). Sixty-five bacterial isolates were initially screened using coumarin media with a concentration of (0.01%-0.5%) coumarin. Only one soil isolate (SZ1) grew at the highest concentration (0.5%). Coumarin and Aflatoxin degradation rates of ten promising ishe biocontrol potential of several different species isolated from poultry farms; B. haynesii, B. licheniformis, B. tequilensis, B. However, some species, such as the northern black widow, Latrodectus variolus, are also found in more temperate regions of USA and adjacent Canada. This species also appears to expand its range northward with the climate change increasing the risk of human encounters. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of a pediatric envenomation from a northern black widow bite in northeastern US. Medical practitioners often fail to recognize the signs and symptoms of latrodectism delaying effective treatment. Even in more northern locales, healthcare workers should take black widow spider envenomation under consideration in the differential diagnosis particularly with suspected exposure.None.Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological diseases in the world. The objective of this research was to investigate a new peptide from the venom of the social wasp Chartergellus communis useful to the study or pharmacotherapy of epilepsy. The wasps were collected, and their venom was extracted. Afterward, the steps of fractionation, sequencing, and identification were carried out to obtain four peptides. These molecules were synthesized for behavioral evaluation tests and electroencephalographic assays to determine their antiseizure potential (induction of acute seizures using the chemical compounds, pentylenetetrazole - PTZ, and pilocarpine - PILO) and analysis of neuropharmacological profile (general spontaneous activity and alteration in motor coordination). Chartergellus-CP1 (i.c.v. - 3.0 μg/animal) caused beneficial alterations in some of the parameters evaluated in both models PTZ (latency and duration of maximum seizures) and PILO (latency and duration of, and protection against, maximum seizures, and reduction of the median of the seizure scores. When evaluated in 3 doses in the seizure model induced by PILO, the dose of 3.0 μg/animal protected the animals against seizures, with an estimated ED50 of 1.49 μg/animal. Electroencephalographic evaluation of Chartergellus-CP1 showed an improvement in latency, quantity, and percentage of protection against generalized electroencephalographic seizures in the PILO model. Further, Chartergellus-CP1 did not cause adverse effects on general spontaneous activity and motor coordination of animals. This study demonstrated how compounds isolated from wasps' venom may be important resources in the search for new drugs. Such compounds can be considered valuable therapeutic and biotechnological tools for the study and future treatment of epileptic disorders. In this context, a peptide that is potentially useful for epilepsy pharmacotherapy was identified in the venom of C. communis.
