Traumatic pulmonary giant hematoma, resulting from blunt trauma, is a relatively rare event. Here, we report the rare case of a patient with a giant traumatic pulmonary hematoma that was associated with blunt trauma. A 50-year-old man was admitted to our medical center after a fall from a height of 5 m. He was diagnosed with pulmonary contusion, and tests showed a huge pulmonary hematoma of approximately 8.2 × 5.3 × 13.2 cm in the left lung field along with other significant injuries. Treatment comprised of aggressive coagulation management, broad-spectrum antibiotics, and pulmonary hygiene. The patient's symptoms gradually improved and magnetic resonance scan revealed that he did not develop an abscess formation. No complications were seen at the 6 months follow-up visit. If the above mentioned measures would have failed to control the bleeding or secondary infection, then emergency surgery would have been warranted. Awareness of this kind of injury and efforts to reduce infection are important to guide the giant traumatic pulmonary hematoma to the benign course.We present a case of a 72-year-old male with a history of a late 1980s metal-on-polyethylene total hip arthroplasty who presented with unilateral leg vascular compromise, joint pain, and stiffness and subsequently underwent revision for adverse local tissue reaction secondary to mechanically assisted crevice corrosion. His stable and extensively porous coated femoral implant had a legacy taper with no currently manufactured option for a non-Co-alloy femoral head. After shared decision-making with the patient, we opted to use an oxidized zirconium femoral head from another manufacturer with a similar taper during his revision surgery and documented that his vascular compromise resolved and his serum Co was undetectable 3 years after the revision.The specialty evaluation of hip pain, stiffness, and/or dysfunction usually includes patient history, physical examination, and radiographic evaluation. Here, we provide that raw sequencing data as well as a list of all of the genes and their expression levels resulting from the RNA-sequencing. The data was collected via online survey platform (Google forms) from 2020.04.11 to 2020.06.04 (during the period of lock-down in Russia). The data contains socio-demographical information (sex, age, country of citizenship), survey answers and the results of standardized psychological tests (to measure dangerous and threatening social world view and hardiness). However, the effect of low MFs ( less then 1 T) on the orientation of bone formation is not well known. This study was performed to verify the effects of low MFs on osteoblastic differentiation, bone formation, and orientation of both cells and newly formed bone. An apparatus was prepared with two magnets (190 mT) aligned in parallel to generate a parallel MF. In vitro, bone marrow-derived stromal cells of rats were used to assess the effects of low MFs on cell orientation, osteoblastic differentiation, and mineralization. A bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-2-induced ectopic bone model was used to elucidate the effect of low MFs on microstructural indices, trabecula orientation, and the apatite c-axis orientation of newly formed bone. Low MFs resulted in an increased ratio of cells oriented perpendicular to the direction of the MF and promoted osteoblastic differentiation in vitro. Moreover, in vivo analysis demonstrated that low MFs promoted bone formation and changed the orientation of trabeculae and apatite crystal in a direction perpendicular to the MF. These changes led to an increase in the mechanical strength of rhBMP-2-induced bone. These results suggest that the application of low MFs has potential to facilitate the regeneration of bone with sufficient mechanical strength by controlling the orientation of newly formed bone.Bone strength determined from finite element (FE) modelling provides an estimate of fracture healing progression following a distal radius fracture (DRF), but how these measures relate to patient-reported outcomes and functional outcomes remains unknown. We hypothesized that changes in bone stiffness and bone mineral density measured using high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) are associated with clinically available measures of functional and patient-reported outcomes. We also aimed to identify which clinical outcome measures best predict fracture stiffness and could therefore be used to inform cast removal. Participants (n = 30) with stable distal radius fractures were followed for two week intervals from the time of fracture until two months post-fracture, then at three months and six months post-fracture. At each follow-up, participants underwent clinical, radiographic, and functional assessments, as well as had their fractured wrist scanned using HR-pQCT. Recovery of bone stiffness during fracture healing was determined from micro-FE (μFE) models generated from HR-pQCT image data. During the DRF healing process, significant longitudinal changes were found in μFE-estimated stiffness, patient-reported outcomes, grip strength, range of motion (ROM), tenderness, number of cortices healed based on radiographs, and fracture line visibility (p less then 0.05); however, no significant change was detected in HR-pQCT based total bone mineral density. Patient-reported outcomes, such as the Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (PRWE) and the Quick Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (QuickDASH) questionnaire, correlated strongly with μFE-estimated stiffness (0.61 ≥ rm ≥ 0.66). Based on μFE-estimated stiffness, PRWE and QuickDASH are the best predictors of stiffness recovery (p less then 0.05) and may be used to guide duration of cast immobilization in the clinical setting.
