Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.

The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a huge tour around the world. After a few weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993. This includes a cover version of Weezer's song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's coverage of Africa on their recent tour.
