Surgical treatment for degenerative spondylolisthesis has been proven to be clinically challenging and cost-effective. However, there is a range of thresholds that surgeons utilize for incorporating fusion in addition to decompressive laminectomy in these cases. This study investigates these surgeon- and site-specific factors by using the Quality Outcomes Database (QOD).

The QOD was queried for all cases that had undergone surgery for grade 1 spondylolisthesis from database inception to February 2019. In addition to patient-specific covariates, surgeon-specific covariates included age, sex, race, years in practice (0-10, 11-20, 21-30, > 30 years), and fellowship training. Site-specific variables included hospital location (rural, suburban, urban), teaching versus nonteaching status, and hospital type (government, nonfederal; private, nonprofit; private, investor owned). Multivariable regression and predictor importance analyses were performed to identify predictors of the treatment performed (decomprescompressive laminectomy with supplemental fusion for spondylolisthesis. Suburban hospitals were more likely to perform decompression only. Surgeon characteristics were not found to influence treatment selection after adjustment for clinical covariates. Further large database registry experience from surgeons at high-volume academic centers at which surgically and medically complex patients are treated may provide additional insight into factors associated with treatment preference for degenerative spondylolisthesis.

The objectives of this study were to determine the quality of life of a pediatric cohort with hydrocephalus treated by endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV), using the Hydrocephalus Outcome Questionnaire-Spanish version (HOQ-Sv), and study the clinical and radiological factors associated with a better or worse functional status.

This cross-sectional study was undertaken between September 2018 and December 2019. It comprised a series of 40 patients ranging from 5 to 18 years old with hydrocephalus treated by ETV. ML162 ETV was considered to be successful if there was no need for surgery for the treatment of hydrocephalus after a minimum follow-up of 6 months. The clinical variables included gender, age at hydrocephalus diagnosis, age at the time of ETV, age at completion of the questionnaire, etiology and type of hydrocephalus (communicating or not), prior shunt, repeat ETV, number of neurosurgical procedures, number of epileptic seizures, presenting signs, and follow-up duration until last office revision. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer among men and women in the United States. Patients and survivors experience a range of challenges, including anxiety, financial issues, long-term adverse effects, and more. The intent of this project was to assess the needs of the CRC community directly from survivors and their caregivers and to lay a foundation for ongoing support.

Twelve nominal group technique sessions were facilitated. Participants were randomized and presented with the following questions "What information do you wish you had at the time of diagnosis?" and "What information do you need now as a survivor?" After the nominal group technique process, each statement's score was divided by the number of people in the session, providing the average to identify the top-ranked statements. Themes and subthemes were applied to statements. Results were compared between coders.

There was a total of 79 participants, 49 of whom self-identified as a patient with or survivor of cancer. Patiensupport for those experiencing CRC. Themes identified in this project require a multidisciplinary approach to ensure that the unmet needs of survivors are addressed.

Psychomotor agitation is a common condition in patients with psychotic disorders. One treatment possibility is intramuscular (IM) second-generation antipsychotics. Yet their efficacy in this formulation and for this aim is unclear. This network meta-analysis aims to evaluate the efficacy of short-acting IM second-generation antipsychotic drugs, haloperidol and placebo in patients with diagnosis of schizophrenia and schizophrenia-like disorders that present acute agitation.

We searched the Cochrane Schizophrenia Group Controlled Trials Register, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, PubMed, BIOSIS, ClinicalTrials.gov and WHO ICTRP up to November 2018 and PubMed until March 2020. Study selection and outcome extraction were performed independently by two reviewers. Pairwise and network meta-analyses were conducted to compare the different IM second-generation antipsychotics among themselves and with IM haloperidol and placebo. The primary outcome was the number of responders at 2h after the first injection. Responders at 24h were also analysed.

10 studies with 1964 patients were included in the meta-analysis. Ziprasidone, olanzapine, aripiprazole and haloperidol were more efficacious than placebo in calming patients at 2h after administration. Furthermore, olanzapine was superior to aripiprazole. The results at 24h confirmed the superiority of aripiprazole, olanzapine and haloperidol over placebo, while for ziprasidone no data were available.

Gray matter concentration values (proxy for atrophy), fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD), intracellular neurite density (Vic) and isotropic diffusion volume (Viso) measures were therefore compared in 150 PSD (schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar disorder Type I) and 63 healthy controls (HC). Additional analyses evaluated whether regions showing atrophy and/or microstructure abnormalities were better explained by DSM diagnoses, symptom burden or cognitive dysfunction. PSD exhibited increased atrophy within bilateral medial temporal lobes and subcortical structures. Gray matter along the left lateral sulcus showed evidence of increased atrophy and MD. link2 Increased MD was also observed in homotopic fronto-temporal regions, suggesting it may serve as a precursor to atrophic changes. Global cognitive dysfunction, rather than DSM diagnoses or psychotic symptom burden, was the best predictor of increased gray matter MD. Regions of decreased FA (i.e., left frontal gray and white matter) and Vic (i.e., frontal and temporal regions and along central sulcus) were also observed for PSD, but were neither spatially concurrent with atrophic regions nor associated with clinical symptoms. Evidence of expanding microstructural spaces in gray matter demonstrated the greatest spatial overlap with current and potentially future regions of atrophy, and was associated with cognitive deficits. Firstly, H3 lysine 4 trimethylation (H3K4me3) licenses early embryonic transcription by counteracting repressive H3K9 methylation. Secondly, an extensive interplay between transcription, H3K36me3 and H3K4 demethylation drives de novo DNA methylation required for embryogenesis. Thirdly, maternally inherited Polycomb-mediated H3K27me3 is a potent regulator of post-implantation development. Additionally, Polycomb Group proteins and H3K4me3 regulate 3D organization in oocytes and embryos.

Full rooming-in, that is, mother and baby staying together for 24 hours per day after birth in the hospital, has been suggested as beneficial for positive maternal bonding. However, it has never been studied directly. We aimed to examine the association of full versus partial rooming-in and maternal bonding to her infant during the post-childbirth hospital stay.

The sample consisted of postpartum women (N=293) in a maternity ward of a tertiary health care center who were fully or partially rooming-in.

Questionnaires were administered at two time points, immediately after childbirth (T1; days 1-4) and 2 months postpartum (T2). The Childbirth Experience Questionnaire (CEQ), breastfeeding questions, and the Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire (PBQ) were administered at T1; the PBQ was repeated at T2. Regression analysis revealed that the rooming-in mode did not significantly predict bonding at 1-4 days postpartum. However, the rooming-in mode was a significant predictor of bonding at two months postpartum only for women who practiced the rooming-in mode they had initially planned (Beta=0.12, p < .05), while controlling for other demographic as well as obstetric variables. Women who chose and practiced partial rooming-in manifested more bonding difficulties than those who chose and practiced full rooming-in. These distinctions in bonding were not manifested when including in the analysis women who partially rooming-in, but not in accordance with their intentions.

Mother-infant bonding may be optimally supported when women's pre-labor desires to participate in full rooming-in are fulfilled.

Hospital staff should be aware of the mothers' intentions regarding full rooming-in requests and make sincere efforts to accommodate and support their wishes.
