Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) has been a promising surface coating with better mechanical and antimicrobial parameters comparing to conventional treatment surfaces. This study evaluated the peri-implant bone repair using (PEO) surface coatings compared with sandblasted acid (SLA) treatment. find more For this purpose, 44 Wistar rats were ovariectomized (OVX-22 animals) or underwent simulated surgery (SS-22 animals) and received implants in the tibia with each of the surface coatings. The peri-implant bone subsequently underwent molecular, microstructural, bone turnover, and histometric analysis. Real-time PCR showed a higher expression of osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of nuclear kappa-B ligand (RANKL), and osteocalcin (OC) proteins in the SLA/OVX and PEO/SS groups (p less then 0.05). Computed microtomography, confocal microscopy, and histometry showed similarity between the PEO and SLA surfaces, with a trend toward the superiority of PEO in OVX animals. Thus, PEO surfaces were shown to be promising for enhancing peri-implant bone repair in ovariectomized rats.Spotted lanternfly, Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera Fulgoridae), is an introduced highly invasive insect pest in the US that poses a significant risk to forestry and agriculture. Assessing and predicting plant usage of the lanternfly has been challenging, and little is known regarding the lanternfly nymph association with its host plants. In this study, we focused on (a) providing a protocol for using molecular markers for food plant identification of L. delicatula; (b) determining whether the ingested plant DNA corresponds with DNA of the plants from which the lanternfly was collected; and, (c) investigating the spectrum of ingested plants. We utilized gut contents of third and fourth instar nymphs that were collected from multiple plants; we isolated ingested plant DNA and identified consumed plants. We demonstrated that (a) up to 534 bp of the rbcL gene from ingested plants can be detected in L. delicatula guts, (b) ingested plants in ~93% of the nymphs did not correspond with the plants from which the nymphs were collected, and (c) both introduced and native plants, as well as woody and non-woody plants, were ingested. This information will aid effective the monitoring and management of the lanternfly, as well as predict the lanternfly host plants with range expansion. The effect of equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) through the route Bc and aging treatment on the grain structure and properties of the Cu-1Cr-0.2Si alloy was investigated. Microstructure was detected by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and the mechanical properties and electrical conductivity were tested. Results shown that after ECAP, accompanying the grains refined to nano-and submicron-structure, the Cr particles were gradually spread along the grain boundaries (GBs), aging treatment promoted Cr particles dispersed in the matrix. ECAP greatly increased the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) while having a small effect on the conductivity, and aging treatment increased electrical conductivity. The stable 111 texture after ECAP and the lower dislocation density after aging treatment maybe the main reasons for the high conductivity of the material. Background and objective Post-exercise hypotension, the reduction of blood pressure after a bout of exercise, is of great clinical relevance. Resistance exercise training is considered an important contribution to exercise training programs for hypertensive individuals and athletes. In this context, post-exercise hypotension could be clinically relevant because it would maintain blood pressure of hypertensive individuals transiently at lower levels during day-time intervals, when blood pressure is typically at its highest levels. The aim of this study was to compare the post-exercise cardiovascular effects on Paralympic powerlifting athletes of two typical high-intensity resistance-training sessions, using either five sets of five bench press repetitions at 90% 1 repetition maximum (1RM) or five sets of three bench press repetitions at 95% 1RM. Materials and Methods Ten national-level Paralympic weightlifting athletes (age 26.1 ± 6.9 years; body mass 76.8 ± 17.4 kg) completed the two resistance-training sessions, one week apart, in a random order. Results Compared with baseline values, a reduction of 5-9% in systolic blood pressure was observed after 90% and 95% of 1RM at 20-50 min post-exercise. Furthermore, myocardial oxygen volume and double product were only significantly increased immediately after and 5 min post-exercise, while the heart rate was significantly elevated after the resistance training but decreased to baseline level by 50 min after training for both training conditions. Conclusions A hypotensive response can be expected in elite Paralympic powerlifting athletes after typical high-intensity type resistance-training sessions. We demonstrate a facile and effective method, which is low-cost and easy to scale up, to fabricate holey graphene nanosheets (HGNSs) via ultrafast heating during synthesis. Various heating temperatures are used to modify the material properties of HGNSs. First, we use HGNSs as the electrode active materials for electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs). A synthesis temperature of 900 °C seems to be optimal, i.e., the conductivity and adhesion of HGNSs reach a compromise. The gravimetric capacitance of this HGNS sample (namely HGNS-900) is 56 F·g-1. However, the volumetric capacitance is low, which hinders its practical application. Secondly, we incorporate activated carbon (AC) into HGNS-900 to make a composite EDLC material. The effect of the ACHGNS-900 ratio on the capacitance, high-rate performance, and cycling stability are systematically investigated. With a proper amount of HGNS-900, both the electrode gravimetric and volumetric capacitances at high rate charging/discharging are clearly higher than those of plain AC electrodes. The AC/HGNS-900 composite is a promising electrode material for nonaqueous EDLC applications.Due to the limitation of current technologies and product costs, humans are still in the driving loop, especially for public traffic. One key problem of cooperative driving is determining the time when assistance is required by a driver. To overcome the disadvantage of the driver state-based detection algorithm, a new index called the correction ability of the driver is proposed, which is further combined with the driving risk to evaluate the driving capability. Based on this measurement, a degraded domain (DD) is further set up to detect the degradation of the driving capability. The log normal distribution is used to model the boundary of DD according to the bench test data, and an online algorithm is designed to update its parameter interactively to identify individual driving styles. The bench validation results show that the identification algorithm of the DD boundary converges finely and can reflect the individual driving characteristics. The proposed degradation detection algorithm can be used to determine the switching time from manual to automatic driving, and this DD-based cooperative driving system can drive the vehicle in a safe condition.
