These recent results are briefly detailed with respect to current knowledge in the field, and possible follow-up experiments are suggested. In this way, we hope to gain a wholistic understanding of these RecQ helicases and how their mutation leads to genomic instability.Formal thought disorders (FTD) are a hallmark diagnostic feature of schizophrenia (SZ) and (bipolar) mania (MA). FTD can be separated into positive (pFTD) and negative dimensions. It is unclear whether there are differences in pFTD on a single symptom level between acutely ill patients with SZ and MA, which cannot be attributed to cognitive impairment. We compared single pFTD symptoms in two groups of acutely ill patients with ICD-10 bipolar mania and schizophrenia, closely matched for age, sex, pFTD TALD score, verbal IQ and neuropsychological test performance (executive function, verbal fluency, attention, and working memory). SZ patients had higher severity of the TALD symptoms "perseverations" and "poverty of content of speech" than those with MA (Mann-Whitney U, significant, Bonferroni corrected). Speech in acute SZ patients differs from MA in that it conveys little information and adheres to previously mentioned ideas and topics. Matching for confounding variables, such as IQ and cognition, is important when comparing patients with different diagnoses.

Supraventricular tachycardias (SVT) are often difficult to document due to their intermittent, short-lasting nature. Smartphone-based one-lead ECG monitors (sECG) were initially developed for the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation. No data have been published regarding their potential role in differentiating inappropiate sinus tachycardia (IST) from regular SVT. If cardiologists could distinguish IST from SVT in sECG, economic health care burden might be significantly reduced.

We prospectively recruited 75 consecutive patients with known SVT undergoing an EP study. In all patients, four ECG were recorded a sECG during SVT and during sinus tachycardia and respective 12-lead ECG. Two experienced electrophysiologists were blinded to the diagnoses and separately evaluated all ECG.

Three hundred individual ECG were recorded in 75 patients (47 female, age 50 ± 18years, BMI 26 ± 5kg/m

, 60 AVNRT, 15 AVRT). The electrophysiologists' blinded interpretation of sECG recordings showed a sensitivity of 89% and a spec in about 90% of cases. These results should encourage cardiologists to integrate wearables into clinical practice, possibly reducing time to definitive diagnosis of an arrhythmia and unnecessary EP procedures. A smartphone-based one lead ECG device (panel A) can be used reliably to differentiate supraventricular tachycardia (panel B) from inappropriate sinus tachycardia when compared to a simultaneously conducted gold-standard electrophysiology study (panels C, D).The presence of multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli of fecal origin in seafood is a serious concern. Seafood containing MDR E. coli can serve as a medium for the transfer of resistant bacteria to consumers. The aim of the present study is to isolate and identify multidrug-resistant E. coli and associated resistant genes from selected seafood (catfish, crabs and tilapia fish) purchased from wholesalers and retailers at sea landing areas in Lagos state, Nigeria. A total of two hundred and thirty-eight (238) samples consisting of catfish (52), tilapia fish (78) and crab (108) were collected and investigated for the presence of E. coli from the period of June 2018-April 2019. SP13786 Colonies that showed metallic sheen were considered presumptive E. coli isolates, and positive isolates were chosen for further confirmed by biochemical methods using IMViC tests, Oxidase test, triple sugar iron agar test and sugar fermentation test. Antimicrobial susceptibility of the isolates to eight classes of antibiotics was determined by disc diffusion methods while amplification of suspected antibiotic resistance genes were done by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using specific primers. A total of 105 (44.1%) E. coli were isolated from selected samples by standard microbiological procedures. The grand total of 59 (56.2%) isolates showed multiple antibiotic-resistant patterns. The overall result showed high-level resistance to tetracycline 101/105 (96.1%) and trimethoprim 90/105 (85.7%), cefotaxime 67/105 (42.9%) while the highest susceptibility of 101/105 (96.2%) was recorded for amikacin followed by gentamicin 84/105 (80%), meropenem 75/105 (71.4%), ceftazidime (69.5). The presence of tetA and blaTEM was prevalent among the isolates. Our results indicate that seafood may be a reservoir of β-lactam and tetracycline-resistance determinants.Kefir is a fermented beverage produced through the activity of its grains, which is constituted by lactic acid and acetic acid bacteria and yeasts. We studied the bacterial succession during multiple fermentation of Argentinian kefir in brown sugar, purified molasses or high-test molasses, using 16S high-throughput sequencing. Firmicutes was dominant (up to 98% of total population) in grains and beverages made from various sugar substrates, except in high-test molasses beverage, which was dominated by Proteobacteria (up to 78% of total population). Major bacterial species in Firmicutes were Liquorilactobacillus nagelii, Lentilactobacillus hilgardii/diolivorans and Lacticaseibacillus casei/paracasei, which are active in lactic acid fermentation. Proteobacteria comprised Acetobacter lovaniensis and Gluconobacter oxydans/roseus as major species, which are presumably responsible for the acetic acid formation in sugary kefir beverages. Bacteria differ in abundance depending on the sugar type, as revealed by the competitive dominances between L. nagelii and A. loveniensis. Purified molasses led to scarce acetic acid bacteria during fermentation, indicating that it is not a suitable substrate for their growth. Our results suggest that acetic acid (and/or ethanol) in sugary kefir modulates the succession and dominance of specific lactic acid bacteria. This study will provide valuable information for designing more sophisticated non-dairy fermented beverages with stable microbial properties.
