We randomly selected 20 patients with progression as well as 40 age- and sex-matched control patients. We serially collected blood samples at baseline, 1 month, and 7 months after an index stroke. Multiplex analysis of biomarkers was then performed.

Demographic features and risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and smoking history were comparable between the two groups. We aimed to determine whether the care process and outcomes in patients with acute stroke who received recanalization therapy changed during the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in South Korea.

We used data from a prospective multicenter reperfusion therapy registry to compare the care process-including the time from symptom onset to treatment, number of treated patients, and discharge disposition-and treatment outcomes between before and during the COVID-19 outbreak in South Korea.

-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake levels in the lumbar vertebrae, liver, and spleen of stroke patients with carotid atherosclerosis.

This study analyzed acute ischemic stroke patients with carotid atherosclerosis who underwent whole-body FDG positron-emission tomography between October 2015 and January 2017. FDG uptake in the lumbar vertebrae, liver, and spleen was measured and compared between stroke patients and control subjects without stroke history. Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to identify independent factors related to FDG uptake in the proximal internal carotid artery (ICA).

Twenty stroke patients aged 75.1±9.0 years (mean±standard deviation; 10 females) and 20 control subjects aged 62.9±10.7 years (6 females) were included. In comparison with the control group, the stroke group showed significantly higher FDG uptake in the proximal ICA (1.16±0.26 vs. 0.87±0.19,

<0.01), but significantly lower FDG uptake in the lumbar vertebrae (1.09±0.26 vs. 1.38±0.38,

=0.007) and liver (1.71±0.30 vs. 2.01±0.34,

Dietary therapy (DT), including the ketogenic diet (KD), is one of the nonpharmacological treatment options for patient with drug-resistant epilepsy. However, maintaining DT in patients without seizure reduction is very difficult, so it is critical for clinicians to decide when to stop this intervention.

We retrospectively analyzed early clinical and laboratory findings and the clinical characteristics of children who received DT. The maintenance of DT and the clinical seizure frequency were assessed at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 months after KD initiation. Responders were defined as patients showing an overall reduction in seizure frequency of >50% relative to the baseline.

We included 67 patients who received DT, but only 23 (34.3%) of these patients remained on DT at 6 months. Only 1 (5%) of the 20 responders at 1 month became a nonresponder at 6 months. The response rate at 6 months was significantly higher among patients under 2 years of age (15/17, 88.2%) than older patients (2/6, 33.3%;

=0.021). Moreover, the 6-month responders were significantly younger (29.4±38.6 months, mean±SD) than the nonresponders (98.9±84.6 months,

=0.012) at the initiation of the diet. A high blood β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) level at 1 month predicted a good DT response at 6 months.

Nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) is challenging to diagnose. This study aimed to describe and classify the clinical features and electroencephalography (EEG) findings of patients with de novo NCSE and to correlate them with clinical outcomes.

We retrospectively reviewed the medical and EEG records of patients admitted to our institution with altered mentation and EEG abnormalities from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2018. We evaluated premorbid modified Rankin Scale (mRS) scores, underlying disorders, precipitating factors, clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, and outcomes after a 3-month follow-up. Patients who met the Salzburg Consensus Criteria for NCSE were categorized into good-outcome and poor-outcome groups. A good outcome was defined as 1) clinical and electrographic seizures ceasing after treatment, and 2) an mRS score of ≤2 or remaining unchanged during the 3-month follow-up. A poor outcome was defined as 1) death, 2) seizures continuing despite treatment, or 3) a follow-up mRS score of ≥3 in a patient with a premorbid mRS score of ≤2, or a follow-up mRS score that increased in a patient with a premorbid mRS score of ≥3.

The 48 included patients comprised 37 categorized into the good-outcome group and 11 into the poor-outcome group. The presence of acute metabolic disturbances was significantly correlated with poor outcome (

The aim of this study was to survey the expert opinions on treatments for convulsive status epilepticus (CSE) and nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) in adults.

Forty-two South Korean epileptologists participated in this survey. They completed an online questionnaire regarding various patient scenarios and evaluated the appropriateness of medications used to treat CSE and NCSE.

Initial treatment with a benzodiazepine (BZD) followed by either a second BZD or an antiepileptic drug (AED) monotherapy was the preferred treatment strategy. More than two-thirds of the experts used a second BZD when the first one failed, and consensus was reached for 84.8% of the survey items. The preferred BZD was intravenous (IV) lorazepam for the initial treatment of status epilepticus. IV fosphenytoin and IV levetiracetam were chosen for AED monotherapy after the failure of BZD. The treatments for NCSE were similar to those for CSE. Continuous IV midazolam infusion was the treatment of choice for iatrogenic coma in refractory CSE, but other AEDs were preferred over iatrogenic coma in refractory NCSE.

SE is a condition that encompasses a broad range of semiologic subtypes and heterogeneous etiologies. The treatment of SE primarily involves the management of the underlying etiology and the use of antiepileptic drug therapy to rapidly terminate seizure activities. The Drug Committee of the Korean Epilepsy Society performed a review of existing guidelines and literature with the aim of providing practical recommendations for antiepileptic drug therapy. This article is one of a series of review articles by the Drug Committee and it summarizes staged antiepileptic drug therapy for SE. While evidence of good quality supports the use of benzodiazepines as the first-line treatment of SE, such evidence informing the administration of second- or third-line treatments is lacking; hence, the recommendations presented herein concerning the treatment of established and refractory SE are based on case series and expert opinions. The choice of antiepileptic drugs in each stage should consider the characteristics and circumstances of each patient, as well as their estimated benefit and risk to them. In tandem with the antiepileptic drug therapy, careful searching for and treatment of the underlying etiology are required.This article provides an update on tinnitus for audiologists and other clinicians who provide tinnitus-specific services. Tinnitus can be attributable to hearing loss, somatosensory system dysfunction, or auditory cortex dysfunction, with hearing loss being the most common cause and serious underlying pathologies being rare. Hearing loss does not always lead to tinnitus, and patients with tinnitus do not always suffer from hearing loss. The first scenario is explained by a so-called inhibitory gating mechanism, whereas the second assumes that all tinnitus sufferers have some degree of hearing impairment, which might not be detected in standard audiological examinations. The treatments should aim at symptomatic relief and management of associated distress. Current treatment options include pharmacotherapy, education, counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, and sound therapy.

Globally, Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) are considered the gold standard for diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other conditions, but variability in performance has led to demand for improvement tools. MDT-FIT (Multidisciplinary Team Feedback for Improving Teamwork) is an improvement programme developed iteratively with over 100 MDTs (≥1100 MDT-members). Complex interventions are often adapted to context, but this is rarely evaluated. We conducted a prospective evaluation of the implementation of MDT-FIT across an entire integrated care system (ICS).

MDT-FIT was implemented within all breast cancer MDTs across an ICS in England (n=10 MDTs; 275 medical, nursing, and administrative members). ICS managers coordinated the implementation across the three stages of MDT-FIT set up; assessment (self-report by team members plus independent observational assessment); team-feedback and facilitated discussion to agree actions for improvement. Data were collected using process and systems logs, and interviews withue and comprehensive evaluation of the multi-site implementation of a complex team improvement programme. Findings support the imperative of considering implementation strategies when designing such programmes to minimize potentially negative impacts of adaptations in "real world" settings.

The external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) applied for prostate cancer (PCa) has been one of the most important and hottest research fields over recent decades. This study aimed to explore the research hotspots of EBRT in PCa and help the researchers have a clear and intuitive reference basis for later researches.

The literature scientometric analysis related to "EBRT applied for PCa" was conducted via the Web of Science Core Collection from 2010 to 2019. The Microsoft Office Excel 2019 and CiteSpace V. 5.7.R1 software were introduced for visualizing and analyzing the data.

A total of 7860 relevant papers were extracted and downloaded. A total of 7828 papers were extracted and analyzed after data cleansing by CiteSpace. The tendency of published papers was comprehensively increasing from 2010 to 2019. We examined hLYS activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa when combined with six different AMPs. In contrast to prior reports, we discovered that some therapeutically relevant AMPs manifest striking antagonistic interactions with hLYS across particular concentration ranges. We further found that the synthetic AMP Tet009 can inhibit hLYS-mediated bacterial lysis. In West Africa, Nigeria has been experiencing repeated outbreaks of different strains of avian influenza virus (AIV) since 2006 and is also recognized as a hot spot in the region for the introduction of emerging strains by migratory wild birds. Here, we generated complete genomes of 20 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N8 viruses collected during active surveillance in Nigerian live bird markets (LBM) and from outbreaks reported in the country between 2016 and 2019. Phylogenetic analysis reveals that the Nigerian viruses cluster into four separate genetic groups within HPAI H5 clade 2.3.4.4b. The first group includes 2016-2017 Nigerian viruses with high genetic similarity to H5N8 viruses detected in Central African countries, while the second includes Nigerian viruses collected both in LBM and poultry farms (2018-2019), as well as in Cameroon, Egypt and Siberia. A natural reassortant strain identified in 2019 represents the third group H5N8 viruses with the same gene constellation were identified in 2018 in South Africa. Finally, the fourth introduction represents the first detection in the African continent of the H5N6 subtype, which is related to European viruses. Bayesian phylogeographic analyses confirmed that the four introductions originated from different sources and provide evidence of the virus spread within Nigeria, as well as diffusion beyond its borders. Fornix deep brain stimulation (fx-DBS) is under investigation for treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). We investigated the anatomic correlates of flashback phenomena that were reported previously during acute diencephalic stimulation.

Thirty-nine patients with mild AD who took part in a prior fx-DBS trial (NCT01608061) were studied. After localizing patients' implanted electrodes and modeling the volume of tissue activated (VTA) by DBS during systematic stimulation testing, we performed (1) voxel-wise VTA mapping to identify flashback-associated zones; (2) machine learning-based prediction of flashback occurrence given VTA overlap with specific structures; (3) normative functional connectomics to define flashback-associated brain-wide networks.

A distinct diencephalic region was associated with greater flashback likelihood. Fornix, bed nucleus of stria terminalis, and anterior commissure involvement predicted memory events with 72% accuracy. Flashback-inducing stimulation exhibited greater functional connectivity to a network of memory-evoking and autobiographical memory-related sites.

Heart transplantation (HTx) represents optimal care for advanced heart failure. Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are often needed as a bridge-to-transplant (BTT) therapy to support patients during the wait for a donor organ. Prolonged support increases the risk for LVAD complications that may affect the outcome after HTx.

A total of 342 patients undergoing HTx after LVAD as BTT in a 10-year period in two German high-volume HTx centres were retrospectively analysed. While 73 patients were transplanted without LVAD complications and with regular waiting list status (T, n=73), the remaining 269 patients were transplanted with high urgency status (HU) and further divided with regard to the observed leading LVAD complications (infection HU1, n=91; thrombosis HU2, n=32; stroke HU3, n=38; right heart failure HU4, n=41; arrhythmia HU5, n=23; bleeding HU6, n=18; device malfunction HU7, n=26). The study of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has revealed biological pathways with implications for disease neuropathology and pathophysiology. These pathway-level effects may also be mediated by individual characteristics or covariates such as age or sex. Evaluation of AD biological pathways in the context of interactions with these covariates is critical to the understanding of AD as well as the development of model systems used to study thedisease.

Gene set enrichment methods are powerful tools used to interpret gene-level statistics at the level of biological pathways. We introduce a method for quantifying gene set enrichment using likelihood ratio-derived test statistics (gsLRT), which accounts for sample covariates like age and sex. We then use our method to test for age and sex interactions with protein expression levels in AD and to compare the pathway results between human and mousespecies.

To describe a new method which involves anatomical distal clavicle plate fixation and titanium alloy cable system-augmented coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction to manage Neer type IIb distal clavicle fracture.

Between January 2013 and June 2018, 28 patients with acute Neer type IIb lateral clavicle fracture were treated by a new method - precontoured locking compressive distal clavicular plate fixation of the fracture combined with titanium alloy cable system-augmented reconstruction of the coracoclavicular ligament. There were 11 females and 17 males treated in this way. There were 15 cases of the right side and 13 of the left. The mean age of the patients was 48.5 years (range, 18-78 years). The mean time from injury to surgery was 3.9 days (range, 1-7 days). After completing the preoperative examinations and evaluations, surgeries were performed for all these patients, anatomical distal clavicle plates were used for fractures, and titanium alloy cables were implanted for the augmented reconstructi. There were a few major complications, including one delayed healing of the skin, one severe shoulder stiffness, three incidences of moderate shoulder stiffness, and five incidences of symptomatic hardware. There is no deep infections, neurovascular injuried, delayed union or nonunion, peri-implant fracture, loss of reduction, implant malposition or failure, or other severe complications.

The purpose of this study is to compare the perceived parenting dimensions in mothers and their daughters (differences between two generations), and study the relationship between these dimensions and the severity of daughters' behavioral and emotional symptoms.

300 participants (150 daughters with their mothers) participated in this study. They responded to the perceived parenting styles questionnaire (PSQ), and mothers were additionally asked to answer the child symptoms inventory-4 (CSI-4). Data analysis was done by the SPSS using the paired sample t-test and multiple regressions.

The results indicated a significant difference between perceived parenting dimensions in mothers and their daughters; specifically, acceptance and control dimensions increased through generation. It was also found that daughters' acceptance-rejection dimension could predict the severity of the symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders, autism spectrum disorders, depression, dysthymia, conduct disorders, and opposite defiant disorders. The control-autonomy dimension could also predict the severity of schizophrenia symptoms.

Machine learning models were used to discover novel disease trajectories for autosomal dominant Alzheimer's disease.

Longitudinal structural magnetic resonance imaging, amyloid positron emission tomography (PET), and fluorodeoxyglucose PET were acquired in 131 mutation carriers and 74 non-carriers from the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network; the groups were matched for age, education, sex, and apolipoprotein ε4 (APOE ε4). A deep neural network was trained to predict disease progression for each modality. Relief algorithms identified the strongest predictors of mutation status.

Aim to review outcomes of the 'no zone' approach to penetrating neck injuries (PNIs) with the advent of high-fidelity computed tomography-angiography (CT-A) in order to determine the most appropriate management for stable PNIs.

Systematic review.

Retrospective and prospective cohort studies of patients who sustained penetrating neck trauma, as defined by an injury which penetrates the platysma, and whose initial management involved CT-A evaluation.

An extensive literature search was performed in July 2019 using the following databases Pubmed Central, EMBASE, Medline and Cochrane CENTRAL. Only studies published in English from the last 15 years were included.

Nine cohort studies met inclusion criteria. There has been an increase in CT-A focussed evaluation of PNIs in recent years. CT-A is a highly sensitive and specific imaging choice and reduces negative neck exploration rates. A new management algorithm for stable patients involving initial radiological assessment using CT-A, and subsequent selective surgical exploration, is safe and effective.

The results of this review provide level 2A evidence that the 'no zone' approach to PNIs, complemented by CT-A and thorough clinical assessment, is a safe management strategy which reduces negative neck exploration rates.

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) utilizes large amounts of fuel for thermogenesis, but the mechanism by which fuel substrates are switched in response to changes in energy status is poorly understood. We have now investigated the role of Kruppel-like factor15 (KLF15), a transcription factor expressed at a high level in adipose tissue, in the regulation of fuel utilization in BAT.

Depletion or overexpression of KLF15 in HB2 differentiated brown adipocytes was achieved by adenoviral infection. Glucose and fatty acid oxidation were measured with radioactive substrates, pyruvate dehydrogenase complex activity was determined with a colorimetric assay, and gene expression was examined by reverse transcription and real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis.

Knockdown of KLF15 in HB2 cells attenuated fatty acid oxidation in association with downregulation of the expression of genes related to this process including Acox1 and Fatp1, whereas it increased glucose oxidation. Expression of the gene for pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase4 (PDK4), a negative regulator of pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, was increased or decreased by KLF15 overexpression or knockdown, respectively, in HB2 cells, with these changes being accompanied by a respective decrease or increase in pyruvate dehydrogenase complex activity. Chromatin immunoprecipitation showed that Pdk4 is a direct target of KLF15 in HB2 cells. Finally, fasting increased expression of KLf15, Pdk4 and genes involved in fatty acid utilization in BAT of mice, whereas refeeding suppressed Klf15 and Pdk4 expression.

This response is often accompanied by a hypersensitive reaction leading to the death of a plant cell and restricted pathogen growth. Plant mitochondria, in this case, play a key role by maintaining a balance between cell respiration and reactive oxygen species formation. One of the key features of the hypersensitive response is the shift of the normal plant respiratory pathway to a special 'alternative' pathway. Plants contain an enzyme, alternative oxidase, for maintaining metabolic homeostasis of the cell. This energy dissipating respiration provides a branch in normal respiration by using ubiquinone to form water and heat, thus maintaining the energy status of the cell. Alternative oxidase is thought to minimize production of reactive oxygen species and can also function in 'anti-apoptotic' machinery in plant cells. In this mini review, we briefly describe the alternative respiratory pathway and explain the role of alternative oxidase in important cellular processes, such as programmed cell death and the hypersensitive response.Intron retention (IR) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of complex diseases such as cancers; its association with Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains unexplored. We performed genome-wide analysis of IR through integrating genetic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data of AD subjects and mouse models from the Accelerating Medicines Partnership-Alzheimer's Disease project. We identified 4535 and 4086 IR events in 2173 human and 1736 mouse genes, respectively. Quantitation of IR enabled the identification of differentially expressed genes that conventional exon-level approaches did not reveal. There were significant correlations of intron expression within innate immune genes, like HMBOX1, with AD in humans. Peptides with a high probability of translation from intron-retained mRNAs were identified using mass spectrometry. Further, we established AD-specific intron expression Quantitative Trait Loci, and identified splicing-related genes that may regulate IR. Our analysis provides a novel resource for the search for new AD biomarkers and pathological mechanisms.Economic evaluations are increasingly becoming part of the surgical evidence base. With health and research guidelines emphasizing both clinical and economic benefits, surgeons will need to consider the impact of economic evaluations in the future. It seems reasonable that surgical costs in the public healthcare sector should be justified by the benefits that clinical interventions offer. Thus, it is vital to understand the methodological differences, reported outcomes and limitations of economic evaluations pertinent to surgical practice as well. As terminology and concepts can be unfamiliar to surgeons, understanding results from these studies can seem difficult. This article aims to inform surgical readers of the processes involved in performing economic evaluations to determine and compare the cost-effectiveness of treatments. The various types of economic evaluations, their uses, design characteristics, model parameters, interpretation of outputs, uncertainty analyses and notable limitations are considered. Through a hypothetical clinical example that compares costs and effects of surgical versus medical treatment for cancer, key concepts in economic evaluations are considered.The concept of vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID) derives from more than two decades of research indicating that (1) most older individuals with cognitive impairment have post mortem evidence of multiple contributing pathologies and (2) along with the preeminent role of Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology, cerebrovascular disease accounts for a substantial proportion of this contribution. Contributing cerebrovascular processes include both overt strokes caused by etiologies such as large vessel occlusion, cardioembolism, and embolic infarcts of unknown source, and frequently asymptomatic brain injuries caused by diseases of the small cerebral vessels. Cerebral small vessel diseases such as arteriolosclerosis and cerebral amyloid angiopathy, when present at moderate or greater pathologic severity, are independently associated with worse cognitive performance and greater likelihood of dementia, particularly in combination with AD and other neurodegenerative pathologies. Based on tor outside groups to perform analyses using identical methods and therefore allow direct comparison of results across studies and centers. All MarkVCID protocols are available to the biomedical community and intended to be shared. In addition to the instrumental validation procedures described here, each of the MarkVCID kits will undergo biological validation to determine whether the candidate biomarker measures important aspects of VCID such as cognitive function. Analytic methods and results of these validation studies for the 11 MarkVCID biomarker kits will be published separately. The results of this rigorous validation process will ultimately determine each kit's potential usefulness for multicenter interventional trials aimed at preventing or treating small vessel disease related VCID.

Child exposure to cigarette smoke is harmful. It should be reduced through parental smoking cessation interventions. The aim of our study was to determine the impact of simple advice provided by the pediatrician on the smoking habits of parents of children with cystic fibrosis (CF), diabetes mellitus (DM), and infants hospitalized for bronchiolitis.

Parents were interviewed on their smoking habits. Smoking cessation advice was provided by the pediatrician. A new smoking habits assessment was done at 3 months by phone interviews.

A total of 260 parents were interviewed (91 in the CF group, 136 in the DM group, and 33 in the bronchiolitis group). A total of 70 parents were active smokers 33% of parents of children with CF, 23.5% of parents of children with DM, and 24.2% for those with infants hospitalized for bronchiolitis (p = .42). In the CF group, smoking cessation had been significantly more frequently discussed with the medical team previously. A total of 67 smoking parents (95.7%) answered the 3-month assessment 29.8% reported having started a smoking cessation process; 10.4% had quit smoking. The quitting rate was significantly higher in the groups of patients followed for a respiratory disorder (37.5% for bronchiolitis, 15% for CF vs. 0% for DM, p = .005).

This study shows the important role that information and simple advice from pediatricians can have in initiating smoking cessation in parents of patients followed in specialized clinics or who are hospitalized, with a greater efficiency in parents of patients suffering from lung disorders.

Commercially available group 13 Lewis acids that range in electrophilicity, steric bulk, and Pearson hard/soft-ness are evaluated. The nature of the interaction between the Lewis acids and the bP lattice is investigated using a range of microscopic (optical, atomic force, scanning electron) and spectroscopic (energy dispersive, X-ray photoelectron) methods. Al and Ga halides are most effective at preventing ambient degradation of bP (>84 h for AlBr3 ), and the resulting field-effect transistors show excellent IV characteristics, photocurrent, and current stability, and are significantly p-doped. This protocol, chemically matched to bP and compatible with device fabrication, opens a path for deterministic and persistent tuning of the electronic properties in bP.

Anastomotic leak (AL) is a devastating complication. Several new treatment options are available, endoluminal negative pressure therapy is one. The aims of this systematic review are; to report success rates and stoma closure rates following endoluminal negative pressure therapy in colorectal AL patients.

A systematic review of MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane and Embase databases from inception to June 2018. Search limits were; English language, humans, sample >5 and >18 years. Search terms were Endospong* OR Endo-spong* OR Endo spong* OR Endoluminal negative pressure OR Endoluninal vac* OR Vacuum assisted OR negative pressure. Combined with colon OR rectum OR colorect* AND anastomotic leak OR leak*.

Twenty articles met inclusion criteria. There were 334 patients. Reported success rates ranged from 60% to 100%. However, success definition varied considerably. The most widely used definition was endoscopic assessment of residual cavity size, but this also varied from 0.5 cm to 3 cm. Stoma closure rates were only reported in 11 studies and ranged from 31% to 100%. Complication rates were reported in 13 studies (65%). The most common was on-going sepsis.

Included studies suggest that 60-100% of ALs heal with endoluminal negative pressure therapy. However, results from this review need to be interpreted with caution because of the variable definition of success. A more objective assessment of success may be stoma closure but this is only reported in 60% of studies. Further studies are needed to assess the benefit of negative pressure therapy in anastomotic leaks.

Most research in this area has been carried out on mammals and yeast, but there has been little research on it in plants. In the current study, large-scale lysine crotonylome analysis was performed by a combination of affinity enrichment and high-resolution LC-MS/MS analysis. Altogether, 6051 lysine crotonylation sites were identified in 2508 protein groups. Bioinformatics analysis showed that lysine-crotonylated proteins were involved in many biological processes, such as carbon fixation in photosynthetic organisms, biosynthesis of amino acids, ribosomes structure and function. In particular, subcellular localization analysis showed that 43% of the crotonylated proteins were located in the chloroplast. Twenty-nine crotonylation proteins were associated with photosynthesis and functional enrichment that these proteins were associated with the reaction center, photosynthetic electron transport, and ATP synthesis. Based on these results, further studies to expand on the lysine crotonylome analysis were suggested.Cutaneous melanoma is uncommon in people of African descent unlike their Caucasian counterparts. This rarity of cutaneous melanoma in people of African descent makes studies in this group difficult. In the few studies that are available, several differences exist in the incidence, disease severity, course of the disease, treatment modalities and survival rates between these two groups. Observed difference in cutaneous melanoma between people of African descent and Caucasians include; a higher incidence and better prognosis in Caucasians, a low awareness of melanoma, no definite risk factors, presentation with advanced disease, poor melanoma specific survival in people of African descent. Other differences are a better UV-induced DNA damage recovery, acral as opposed to truncal melanoma, female preponderance and lack of preventive measures in people of African descent.

How dietitians are trained to develop relationships with clients is not clearly articulated despite its importance being well-documented. This study aimed to describe how this relationship is expressed and addressed in curriculum documents of Australian dietetics education programs, and to explore program coordinators' perspectives of this description and how relationship development is actually taught.

Data extracted from subject outlines included subject descriptions, learning outcomes, assessments, readings and the mode of delivery (eg, lectures). Guided by a pre-existing coding framework, deductive thematic analysis was utilised to explore qualitative themes from subject outline data. Semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with 10 program coordinators and analysed using inductive thematic analysis.

Subject outlines for 122 subjects across all 21 accredited Australian programs were analysed. The over-arching theme was the wide "variability" in the ways that the client-dietitian relationsher research is needed to investigate if training programs should embed more consistent language around therapeutic relationships, and how this might be achieved to reflect current competency standards.Tumor vasculature blockade therapy (TVBT), including angiogenesis inhibition, vascular disruption, and vascular infarction, provides a promising treatment modality for solid tumors. However, low selectivity, drug resistance, and possible severe side effects have limited the clinical transformation of TVBT. Engineered nanoparticles offer potential solutions, including prolonged circulation time, targeted transportation, and controlled release of TVBT agents. Moreover, engineered nanomedicines provide a promising combination platform of TVBT with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, photodynamic therapy, photothermal therapy, ultrasound therapy, and gene therapy. In this article, we offer a comprehensive summary of the current progress of engineered nanomedicines for TVBT and also discuss current deficiencies and future directions for TVBT development.
