This study aimed to evaluate the changes in lung diffusing capacity in AS pre-, mid- and post-training in a combined session of apnoeic swimming, figures and choreography. selleck compound Eleven elite female AS from the Spanish national team were the study's participants. The single-breath method was used to measure lung diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) and one-way repeated measures ANOVA was utilized to evaluate the statistical analysis. Basal values of DLCO were higher than normal for their age and height (33.6±4.9 mL·min-1·mmHg-1; 139±19%) and there were a significant interaction between DLCO and AS training (ŋ2p=0.547). After the apnoeic swimming (mid-training) there was an increase in DLCO from basal to 36.7±7.3 mL·min-1·mmHg-1 (p=0.021), and after the figures and choreography (post-training) there was a decrease compared to mid-training (32.3±4.6 mL·min-1·mmHg-1, p=0.013). Therefore, the purposes of this study were to explore the use of a pre-throwing protocol focusing on lumbopelvic-hip complex musculature in high school baseball players and examine its effects on shoulder and hip range of motion and isometric strength over the course of a season. Four exercises were added to the intervention team's warm-up routine. The control and intervention teams' passive bilateral hip and shoulder range of motion and isometric strength were assessed pre/post-season. A multivariate analysis of variance revealed significant differences in delta scores between the teams for multiple shoulder and hip range of motion and isometric strength variables. Key results were the intervention team lost significantly more stride hip external rotation but gained more isometric strength than the control team. The intervention team was also able to better maintain shoulder range of motion than the control team. Practitioners should use the results of this study and consider incorporating exercises that target lumbopelvic-hip complex musculature into their current training program.
Patient safety is a major challenge and has high priority in the inpatient care. Notably, drug therapy is considered critical after surgery. The medication process is particularly difficult and problematic in newborns and children.
In a retrospective analysis, hospital-internal spontaneous reports on Drug-related Problems (DRP) from a children's hospital were analysed, which were reported between 2000 and 2014.
229 spontaneous reports on DRP were considered for analysis. 72.5% of these were due to a Medication Error. Nearly half of the DRP occurred during drug dispensing (44.5%), followed by problems during administration (38.0%) and prescribing (11.4%). 61.4% of Medication Errors were dispensing errors (esp. confusion of patients, wrong dose). Almost all Other Incidents happened during drug administration (mainly extravasations). 40.6% of DRP reports were associated with clinically relevant patient harm and occurred particularly during drug administration.
These results show that drug therapy in paediatrics is a complex and hazardous process. The system of hospital-internal spontaneous reports has led to regular training and raising awareness of the employees for critical situations. In addition, it fosters a safety culture to report mistakes. Spontaneous reporting is suitable for increasing the safety of drug therapy in paediatrics.

At the turn of the millennium, an increase in the detection rate of HPV-positive oropharyngeal carcinomas (OPC) in the USA was observed for the first time. An increase in the OPC was also observed in Europe. It was shown that this increase was due to HPV-positive OPC. However, the detection rate of the HPV-positive OPC has national and regional differences. Within Europe, the highest detection rate is in Northern Europe (56,5 %), followed by Central Europe (37,6 %). An association between patients with OPC and ≥ 6 sexual partners (OR = 1,25) and ≥ 4 oral sex partners (OR = 2,25) has been described. An HPV infection is usually asymptomatic and eliminated by the immune system within a few months. The persistence of the virus is oncogene. Smoking favors virus persistence, which is why the combination of smoking and oral sex with ≥ 5 partners is a particular risk factor. It was also examined whether partners from patients with cervical cancer have an increased oropharyngeal HPV infection rate. There was no definite declaration on this, but further investigations are required. Oral condoms or dental dams are suitable for the prevention of an oral HPV infection.
