Pelvic lymphoceles are the most common complications after pelvic lymphadenectomy. Microsurgical procedures have attracted attention as an alternative treatment for lymphoceles. Here, we report six cases of refractory lymphoceles that were successfully treated using lymphovenous anastomosis (LVA).

Six patients underwent surgery for gynecological cancers and developed pelvic lymphoceles, which did not respond to conventional treatment. We mainly performed LVA on the ipsilateral lower limbs, although some procedures were also performed on the contralateral limbs. The change in the lymphocele volume after LVA was examined using computed tomography and compared using the Wilcoxon test.

Five of the six refractory lymphocele cases were successfully treated using LVA, and the remaining case exhibited an 87% reduction in lymphocele volume. The average numbers of anastomoses were 6.7 on the ipsilateral side and 2.8 on the contralateral side (the median numbers 6 [range 5-9] vs. 3 [range 1-4], P=0.034). The average lymphocele volume decreased significantly from 414.0mL preoperatively to 8.0mL postoperatively (the median lymphocele volume 255.8 [range 61.5-1,329.2] vs. 0 [range 0-47.7], P=0.0313).

Commonly utilised techniques involve the use of blue dye which has an established risk of inducing allergic reactions in patients. Such reactions can be life-threatening, and this risk is important to highlight to patients. We conducted a retrospective review of all patients who had undergone this procedure at our melanoma centre in Cambridge, UK. From a group of 715 patients who received blue dye as part of the procedure, six patients suffered an allergic reaction (0.84%) with one of these treated as anaphylaxis. Our incidence of anaphylaxis is almost ten times greater than that reported in the NAP6 report led by the National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia and significantly higher than reported by others. Understanding the association between sleep-related beliefs and behaviors may be useful in improving sleep health in the general population. This study examines false beliefs about sleep and their associations with self-reported sleep and related behaviors.

Respondents in an online survey indicated the degree to which they agreed with 20 statements previously identified as sleep myths by experts in the field. A total sleep myths score was calculated for each participant, with higher scores reflecting greater false beliefs. Cyclopamine Sociodemographic factors, behaviors, and knowledge related to sleep were also assessed.

Total sample size was 1120 adults residing in the United States (51.5% female; M age=47.22). Overall, belief in sleep myths was relatively common, with 10 of 20 false statements endorsed by at least 50% of the sample. Sleep myth scores varied by sociodemographic factors, including age, gender, socioeconomic indicators, and region of residence. Higher sleep myth scores were associated with greater inconsistency in bedtimes (odds ratio 1.07 [1.04-1.09]), more frequent napping (odds ratio 1.11 [1.09-1.14]), more in-bed activities (β=0.35, p < .001), engaging in behaviors incompatible with sleep hygiene recommendations (β=0.24, p < .001), and perceiving fewer consequences of insufficient sleep (β=-0.13, p < .001). Some epidemic diseases such as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have caused many physical, psychological, and social challenges, despite the existence of treatment strategies. Many people are looking for complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to prevent such diseases. The present study was performed to determine how some types of CAM were being used during the COVID-19 epidemic in Iran.

The present study had a cross-sectional descriptive correlational design. All Iranian residents above 17years old were eligible to participate in the study. A total of 782 participants completed a demographic information questionnaire, a questionnaire about their use of CAMs and a questionnaire about their satisfaction with the CAMs they used. Web-based sampling was conducted from 20 April 2020 to 20 August 2020.

Of the participants, 84% used at least one type of CAM during the COVID-19 outbreak. The most used CAMs were dietary supplements (61.3%), prayer (57.9%), and herbal medicines (48.8%). The majority of the participants (50%-66%) have used CAMs to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 or to reduce anxiety caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. CAM use was associated with sex, having children, place of residence, COVID-19 status, and source of gathering information about CAM (P<0.05). All 32 participants who had been infected with COVID-19 used at least one type of CAM for treatment or alleviation of the disease symptoms.
