Sleep condition plays an essential role in maintaining quality of life and is an important marker that predicts physical fitness. This study aimed to determine the relationship between sleep conditions (sleep quality, sleep duration, bedtime) and multiple physical fitness indicators (body mass index (BMI), flexibility, abdominal muscle strength and endurance, cardiopulmonary endurance) in a well-characterized population of Taiwanese adults aged 23 to 65. The applied data were obtained from the National Physical Fitness Examination Survey 2014 conducted in Taiwan. We assessed the association of the sleep conditions with physical fitness performances in Taiwanese adults by using the multivariate adaptive regression spline (MARS) method with a total of 69,559 samples. The results show that sleep duration, sleep quality, and bedtime were statistically significant influence factors on physical fitness performances with different degrees. Gender was an important factor that affects the effects of daily sleep conditions on performances of physical fitness. Sleep duration was the most important factor as it was simultaneously correlated with BMI, sit-ups, and sit-and-reach indicators in both genders. Bedtime and sleep quality were only associated with sit-ups performance in both genders.Damage to concrete structures with gypsum-contaminated aggregate occurs frequently. Aggregates in much of the southern part of China are contaminated with gypsum. Therefore, in this study, the effects of using different quantities of gypsum-contaminated aggregate on the expansion and compressive strength of concrete were investigated over a period of one year. Two groups of concrete were designed with the gypsum-contaminated aggregate containing different parts of fine and coarse aggregate, respectively. The SO3 contents were 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 3%, 5%, and 7% by weight of aggregate. X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry (TG), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to analyze the change in mineral composition over time. The microstructure was also studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS). The results showed that significant expansion and great loss in compressive strength did not occur in concrete if the content of SO3 lay below 1.5% and 3% in fine and coarse aggregates, respectively. Colistin fell out of favor due to its small therapeutic range and high potential for toxicity. Today, it is used again as a last resort substance in treating MDR/PDR pathogens. Although new guidelines with detailed recommendations for Colistin dosing are available, finding the right dose in critically ill patients with renal failure remains difficult. Here, we evaluate the efficiency of the current guidelines' recommendations by using high resolution therapeutic drug monitoring of Colistin. (2) Methods We analyzed plasma levels of Colistin and its prodrug colisthimethate sodium (CMS) in 779 samples, drawn from eight PDR-infected ICU patients, using a HPLC-MS/MS approach. The impact of renal function on proper Colistin target levels was assessed. (3) Results CMS levels did not correlate with Colistin levels. Therefore, an understanding of cartilage tribological behaviour is of great interest in order to minimize its degradation, preserving the reliable function of the joints. The aim of the present study is to provide a comprehensive comparison of frictional behaviour of articular cartilage, focusing on the effect of synovial fluid composition (i), speed (ii), and load (iii). The experiments were realized using a pin-on-plate tribometer with reciprocating motion. The articular cartilage pin was loaded against smooth glass plate while the tests consisted of loading and unloading phases in order to enable cartilage rehydration. Various model fluids containing albumin, γ-globulin, hyaluronic acid, and phospholipids were prepared in two different concentrations simulating physiologic and osteoarthritic synovial fluid. Two different speeds, 5 mm/s and 10 mm/s were applied, and the tests were carried out under 5 N and 10 N. It was found that protein-based solutions exhibit almost no difference in friction coefficient, independently of the concentration of the constituents. However, the behaviour is considerably changed when adding hyaluronic acid and phospholipids. Especially when interacting with γ-globulin, friction coefficient decreased substantially. In general, an important role of the interaction of fluid constituents was observed. On the other hand, a limited effect of speed was detected for most of the model fluids. Finally, it was shown that elevated load leads to lower friction, which corresponds well with previous observations. Further study should concentrate on specific explored phenomena focusing on the detailed statistical evaluation.
