The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes towards dementia among adults. A cross-sectional online survey with purposive sampling was conducted in four district health centers in Taichung, Taiwan, in 2018. Knowledge was measured by the Taiwanese version of the Dementia Knowledge Assessment Scale. Attitudes towards people with dementia were measured by four kinds of feelings discomfort, shame, avoidance, and fear. In total, 347 persons completed the questionnaire. Knowledge of dementia was modest. Higher education, a care-related background, chronic health conditions, experience caring for people with dementia, and knowledge of family history were related to higher knowledge of dementia. Attitudes towards people with dementia were grouped into four clusters uncomfortable (22.2%), ashamed (2.6%), unfriendly (22.5%), and non-negative (52.7%). Knowledge of dementia was significantly related to the ashamed cluster but not to the other clusters. Lower education, a lack of caring experience, and a lack of knowledge of family history were related to uncomfortable feelings, and poorer financial satisfaction was related to uncomfortable, afraid, and avoidant feelings. The public should be educated on knowledge of and friendly attitudes towards dementia.Differentiation of preadipocytes into mature adipocytes is a highly complex cellular process. At lipidome level, the adipogenesis remains poorly characterized. To investigate the lipidomic changes during human adipogenesis, we used the LipidyzerTM assay, which quantified 743 lipid species from 11 classes. The undifferentiated human SGBS cell strain showed a heterogeneous lipid class composition with the most abundant classes, phosphatidylethanolamines (PE), phosphatidylcholines (PC), and sphingomyelins (SM). The differentiation process was accompanied by increased ceramide concentrations. After completion of differentiation around day 4, massive lipid remodeling occurred during maturation, characterized by substantial synthesis of diacylglycerols (DAG), lysophosphatidylethanolamines (LPE), PC, PE, SM, and triacylglycerols (TAG). Lipid species composition became more homogeneous during differentiation to highly concentrated saturated and monounsaturated long-chain fatty acids (LCFA), with the four most abundant being C160, C161, C180, and C181. Simultaneously, the amount of polyunsaturated and very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA) markedly decreased. High negative correlation coefficients between PE and PC species containing VLCFA and TAG species as well as between ceramides and SM imply that PE, PC, and ceramides might have served as additional sources for TAG and SM synthesis, respectively. These results highlight the enormous remodeling at the lipid level over several lipid classes during adipogenesis.Prokaryotes represent a source of both biotechnological and pharmaceutical molecules of importance, such as nonribosomal peptides (NRPs). NRPs are secondary metabolites which their synthesis is independent of ribosomes. Traditionally, obtaining NRPs had focused on organisms from terrestrial environments, but in recent years marine and coastal environments have emerged as an important source for the search and obtaining of nonribosomal compounds. In this study, we carried out a metataxonomic analysis of sediment of the coast of Yucatan in order to evaluate the potential of the microbial communities to contain bacteria involved in the synthesis of NRPs in two sites one contaminated and the other conserved. As well as a metatranscriptomic analysis to discover nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs) genes. We found that the phyla with the highest representation of NRPs producing organisms were the Proteobacteria and Firmicutes present in the sediments of the conserved site. Similarly, the metatranscriptomic analysis showed that 52% of the sequences identified as catalytic domains of NRPSs were found in the conserved site sample, mostly (82%) belonging to Proteobacteria and Firmicutes; while the representation of Actinobacteria traditionally described as the major producers of secondary metabolites was low. It is important to highlight the prediction of metabolic pathways for siderophores production, as well as the identification of NRPS's condensation domain in organisms of the Archaea domain. Because this opens the possibility to the search for new nonribosomal structures in these organisms. This is the first mining study using high throughput sequencing technologies conducted in the sediments of the Yucatan coast to search for bacteria producing NRPs, and genes that encode NRPSs enzymes.Type 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) and their adaptive counterpart type 2 T helper (TH2) cells respond to interleukin-33 (IL-33) by producing IL-5, which is a crucial cytokine for eosinophil development in the bone marrow. The aim of this study was to determine if bone marrow ILC2s, TH cells, and eosinophils are locally regulated by IL-33 in terms of number and activation upon exposure to the common aeroallergen house dust mite (HDM). Mice that were sensitized and challenged with HDM by intranasal exposures induced eosinophil development in the bone marrow with an initial increase of IL5Rα+ eosinophil progenitors, following elevated numbers of mature eosinophils and the induction of airway eosinophilia. Bone marrow ILC2s, TH2, and eosinophils all responded to HDM challenge by increased IL-33 receptor (ST2) expression. However, only ILC2s, but not TH cells, revealed increased ST2 expression at the onset of eosinophil development, which significantly correlated with the number of eosinophil progenitors. In summary, our findings suggest that airway allergen challenges with HDM activates IL-33-responsive ILC2s, TH cells, and eosinophils locally in the bone marrow. Targeting the IL-33/ST2 axis in allergic diseases including asthma may be beneficial by decreasing eosinophil production in the bone marrow.Natural enemy guilds normally forage for prey that is patchily distributed simultaneously. Previous studies have investigated the influence of conspecific interactions and prey distribution on the functional response of natural enemies. However, little is known about how prey distribution and heterospecific interactions between natural enemies could affect their foraging efficiency. We examined the effects of prey distribution (aggregate and uniform) and heterospecific interactions on the functional response of a predator, Harmonia axyridis (Pallas) (Coleoptera Coccinellidae) and a parasitoid, Aphidius gifuensis Ashmead (Hymenoptera Braconidae) to the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Hemiptera Aphididae). Type II functional responses were observed in all experiments. Functional response curves of single H. axyridis or A. gifuensis were higher in the aggregate treatment than in the uniform treatment when aphid densities were between 40-180 or 70-170, respectively. When comparing between aggregate and uniform treatments with the heterospecific enemy occurrence, no differences were found in the parasitism efficiency of A.
