Potential benefits of EPA+DHA supplementation among aging populations warrant further study. The development of plant tissues requires cell-cell communication facilitated by chemical and peptide hormones, including small signaling peptides in the CLAVATA3/EMBRYO-SURROUNDING REGION (CLE) family. The paradigmatic CLE signaling peptide CLAVATA3 regulates the size of the shoot apical meristem and the expression of the stem cell-promoting WUSCHEL transcription factor through an unknown mechanism. This review discusses recent advances in CLE signaling, showing that CLE pathways are conserved in bryophytes, that CLE peptides in Arabidopsis thaliana regulate stem cell identity and cell division in root tissues, and connections to auxin biosynthesis in regulating flower and leaf development. These advances shed light on potential WUSCHEL family-independent aspects of CLE signaling and the overlap between CLE and auxin signaling.A novel automated method was developed for the quantitative determination of nine terpenoids that could contribute to the minty notes of red wine bouquet. The method couples headspace SPME-Arrow extraction with GC-MS/MS analysis. PDMS/DVB fiber was chosen for the extraction and an ionization energy of 30 eV permitted to optimize the analyte detection. The optimal sample preparation consists of a two-fold dilution of the wine sample with addition of 4 g of sodium chloride while the most suitable extraction conditions take place at 50 °C for 1 h. The method shows good linearity, intraday variations between 2 and 25%, interday variations between 7 and 23% and recoveries between 80 and 119%. The method exhibits the required low detection (between 3 and 60 ng/L) and quantification (between 6 ng/L and 200 ng/L) limits. These limits have permitted the quantification of the pool of minty terpenoids in fourteen red Bordeaux wines.By inspecting starch hierarchical structural evolution, this work explored how microwave irradiation tailored the digestion characteristics of lotus seed starch-chlorogenic acid mixtures. The results showed that after microwave treatment, the granular structure, short-range ordered structure, helical conformation, and lamellar structure of starch exhibited different degrees of disorganization. In this procedure, chlorogenic acid interacted with starch molecules to form lotus seed starch-chlorogenic acid complexes and participated in the reorganization of the matrixes of the starch substrate in three forms V-type inclusion complex, non-inclusion complex, and simply physically entrapped. These structural changes, coupled with the inhibition of chlorogenic acid on carbohydrate hydrolyzing enzymes, contributed to the slowly digestible features of lotus seed starch-chlorogenic acid complexes. This study provided a basis for understanding the multi-scale structure-digestibility relationship of starchy foods rich in phenolic acids under microwave treatment.Carotenoid content in maize sprouts can be increased by NaCl stress, although high NaCl concentrations negatively impact plant growth. The effects of exogenous methyl jasmonate (MeJA) on contents of carotenoid and antioxidant capacity of yellow maize sprouts under NaCl stress were investigated. Our results showed that treatments of NaCl both alone and combined with MeJA enhanced the carotenoid accumulation in maize sprouts. Moreover, the carotenoid biosynthesis related genes showed different expression patterns under addition of MeJA treatment. Additionally, the combined treatment led to significantly higher content of most carotenoids profiles and the addition of MeJA could alleviate the harmful effect caused by NaCl stress. Furthermore, the combined treatment improved antioxidant enzyme activities and radical scavenging capacity. The results implied that MeJA is kind of effective plant growth regulator for enhancing carotenoid accumulation in maize sprouts by up-regulating the expression levels of key genes involved in carotenoid biosynthetic pathway. The implementation of Raman and infrared spectroscopy with three data fusion strategies to predict pH and % IMF content of red meat was investigated. Raman and FTIR systems were utilized to assess quality parameters of intact red meat. Quantitative models were built using PLS, with model performances assessed with respect to the determination coefficient (R2), root mean square error and normalized root mean square error (NRMSEP). Results obtained on validation against an independent test set show that the high-level fusion strategy had the best performance in predicting the observed pH; with RP2 and NRMSEP values of 0.73 and 12.9% respectively, whereas low-level fusion strategy showed promise in predicting % IMF (NRMSEP = 8.5%). The fusion of data from more than one technique at low and high level resulted in improvement in the model performances; highlighting the possibility of information enhancement. The program WinMLR has been developed to quantify sorbic and benzoic acids in soft drinks, fruit juices, and soy sauce by making a multilinear regression treatment of experimental data to a linear combination of standard signals. BTK inhibitor library The spectra of sorbic and benzoic acid and samples were obtained from a conventional spectrophotometer, which has been saved in an ASCII file to be applied with the WinMLR program. Before to determine sorbic and benzoic acids in samples, the wavelength validation and calibration parameters were studied. Standard solutions of sorbic and benzoic acids were used for the calibration parameters to measure the individual analyte. If the sample has simultaneously both compounds, it is better to choose the synthetic mixture for the calibration parameters. This technique provides a good recovery in the range of 80.4-104.8% without a complicated and expensive instrument. The impact of ozone-induced oxidation on the gel properties of egg yolk was investigated for the first time in this research. The textural properties, water-holding capacity, cooking loss rate and color of the chicken egg yolk gel (CEYG) were significantly improved after ozonation. The maximum hardness value (976.04 g) was reached at 20 min of ozonation and it was 134.92 g higher than that of the natural group. Additionally, the ozone-treated yolk showed an increase of 58.47% in carbonyl content and a decrease of 44.33% in free sulfhydryl groups. The results of low-field nuclear magnetic resonance indicated that ozone promoted the conversion of free water to non-flowing water in the CEYG. Scanning electron microscopy represented that the moderate ozone treatment resulted in a more regular, continuous and smooth network structure of the CEYG. These results provided a theoretical basis for the application of ozone to improve the performance of heat-induced CEYG.
