e techniques are highly efficacious in adenoid removal and low complication rate in our study but still more studies with large sample size are encouraged to validate these results and establish the comparative efficacy of both the techniques in terms of the intraoperative parameters as well as post-operative recovery along with recurrence rates. © Association of Otolaryngologists of India 2019.To identify relation between prevalence of hearing impairment and risk factors at the time of birth in high risk neonates. A year-long study is performed at HBT Medical College and Dr. R. N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital, Vile Parle (west), Mumbai. The Study comprised of 478 high risk babies born between March 2016 and February 2017 and admitted in NICU of the hospital. Out of these 68 babies were either transferred to higher centre or took discharge against medical advice. A total of 410 babies completed the study. Additional 21 eligible babies died in NICU during the study. A Prospective Observational Study is used to analyse the findings of the study. Skew analysis of spread of prevalence across risk factors is used to establish higher prevalence of hearing impairment in high risk neonates. Cramer's Moment Coefficient of Skewness and Corresponding Test Statistics are used for studying the skewness. Out of 410 babies screened during the study 5 babies were diagnosed with profound SNHL. The risk factors associated with babies is plotted against frequency of babies with Profound SNHL. The plot is found to be un-uniformly distributed and shows inclination towards higher prevalence with high risk babies. Sample skewness (G1) value - 0.81 indicates moderately negative skewed sample. This means the number of babies with profound SNHL found by 3 stage screening is moderately concentrated at high risk weightage. © Association of Otolaryngologists of India 2019.Good posture means spine is neutral. Posture is dictated by the existing occlusion, especially the relation between the maxillary and mandibular permanent first molars. Overloading the spine due to bad posture is the precursor of many ailments. Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome is one of them. Compromised airway is found to be a major contributory factor in sleep apnea cases. Restoring the dental anatomy to its normal has been found to reduce the load on the spine, improving ones posture. It also facilitates the compromised airways to attain normalcy. © The Author(s) 2019.Reconstruction of full thickness defects after resection of oral cancer is a challenge. Although microvascular free flaps are considered the first choice, their use is limited in the developing regions by availability of resources and the expertise. In this study, we have presented our experience with the use of bipaddle pectoralis major myocutaneous (PMMC) flap as a single stage reconstruction option for defects of the oral cavity. After undergoing resection of oral cancer, 12 patients with full thickness defects of the oral cavity were reconstructed using bipaddle/bilobed/double-island/folded PMMC flap in a single stage procedure. The results of PMMC flaps were studied. All the patients had through and through defects of oral cavity, which were reconstructed in a single stage surgery using bipaddle PMMC flap. The overall complication rate was 33.33%, however, there were no cases of total flap necrosis. The mean time of reconstruction was 141.25 min with average hospital stay of 18.5 days. PMMC flap is a versatile flap with dedicated blood supply, good bulk and great reach. With limited availability of resources, it can be used as a single stage reconstruction technique in oral cavity defects with good results. © Association of Otolaryngologists of India 2019.The surgical approach for hypophysectomy has undergone sweeping revolution in the past three decades. With the advent of endoscopes, better instrumentation, better illumination and viewing cameras, endoscopic endo-nasal trans-sphenoidal approach to sella has now largely become the norm. The aim of this study is to present our experience, analysing the surgical outcomes of this approach in patients with pituitary adenoma, pertaining to entirety of tumor removal, alleviation of symptoms and rate of complications. This prospective  study was conducted at our tertiary health care  centre from June 2012 to June 2015. A total of 14 patients, meeting the inclusion criteria, underwent endoscopic trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy for pituitary adenoma. Age of presentation ranged from 19 to 73 years (mean 43.6 years). 9 patients were female and 5 were male. The most common presenting symptom was headache, followed by visual disturbances. Amongst those with hormonal imbalance, most common were prolactinomas and growth hormoval of pituitary adenomas. The results have been encouraging in our prospective study. However, the importance of learning curve in endoscopic skull base surgery and use of a multi-disciplinary collaboration cannot be overemphasized. © Association of Otolaryngologists of India 2019.As polytrauma cases are on the rise, a large number of patients presents with temporal bone fractures, which can result in various types of injuries varying from trivial to more serious injuries. Early diagnosis and appropriate management in required in case of serious injuries for a better outcome. The aim of my study is to study the incidence, the different injuries occurring and the effect of early diagnosis on hearing loss. Patients coming to our emergency department with polytrauma are studied and clinically evaluated for any temporal bone injuries. selleck kinase inhibitor Based on the type of injuries audiological and radiological studies are done. And if required, biochemical tests like CSF analysis will be done. Also hearing assessment will be done as early as possible and appropriate treatment required will be started. The outcome is then assessed and followed up on a regular basis. In our study there were 90 patients with temporal bone fracture out of the 2748 polytrauma cases. The incidence was calculated to be 32 per 100the earliest and managing the same with appropriate treatment modalities. © Association of Otolaryngologists of India 2019.
