On multivariate analysis, the presence of a HM II device was associated with a 4-fold increased risk of bleeding.
We found the use of enoxaparin "bridge" therapy to be associated with a higher incidence of bleeding in patients with a HM II device compared with an HVAD device. Assessment of device- and patient-specific factors should be evaluated to minimize bleeding events.

Some studies have shown that osteoporosis drugs may have anti-cancer effects. To better understand the relationship between drugs for osteoporosis and antineoplastic agents, and to better demonstrate recent developments for patents concerning drugs for osteoporosis, we conducted an analysis of US patents. The results indicated that there was a good correlation between agents for osteoporosis and antineoplastic agents, which indicated that numerous anti-osteoporosis agents displayed antineoplastic activities. Our study was the first one to provide new evidence, through comprehensive analysis, for a correlation between anti-osteoporosis agents and anticancer agents. The present study may open new avenues for developing anticancer drugs and expanding the application role of anti-osteoporosis agents.
Many surgeons prefer bony stabilization including Bristow or Latarjet procedures for shoulder instability in collision athletes, even though several potential complications have been reported. There has been a limited number of studies on the midterm outcomes of arthroscopic soft tissue stabilization for anterior shoulder instability in competitive collision athletes.
To assess the outcomes of arthroscopic soft tissue stabilization in combination with selective augmentation procedures for collision athletes with traumatic anterior shoulder instability.
Case series; Level of evidence, 4.
We retrospectively assessed rugby or American football players (<40 years old) who underwent arthroscopic Bankart or bony Bankart repair with selective augmentations (rotator interval closure and/or Hill-Sachs remplissage) for traumatic anterior shoulder instability between January 2012 and March 2017. Shoulders that required other bony procedures were excluded. Recurrence, complications, return to sport, and functiilization was combined with selected augmentations, provided good clinical outcomes for competitive collision athletes in terms of low rates of recurrence and complication, a high rate of return to sports, and good shoulder function.
Our treatment strategy, where arthroscopic soft tissue stabilization was combined with selected augmentations, provided good clinical outcomes for competitive collision athletes in terms of low rates of recurrence and complication, a high rate of return to sports, and good shoulder function. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between religious orientation, coping strategies and suicidal behaviour among secondary school adolescents and college students. A total of 196 participants (73 adolescents and 123 adults college students) completed the online survey consisting of the Religious-Orientation Scale-Revised, Brief COPE and Suicidal Behaviours Questionnaire-Revised. Adolescents in secondary school had higher odds of suicidal thoughts and behaviour than college students (OR 4.40, 95% CI 1.133, 17.094, p = 0.032). Individuals who employed an avoidant coping strategy had higher odds of suicidal thoughts and behaviour after adjusting for other relevant variables, which indicated that when a person engages in avoidant coping strategy, it is most likely that they have a higher odds of suicidal thoughts and behaviour (OR 1.118, 95% CI 1.050, 1.189, p less then 0.001). There is an urgent need to initiate psychological interventions to reduce suicide behaviour risk among Malaysian secondary school adolescents.Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a malignant tumor that occurs mostly in children. However, the underlying mechanisms of ES are still unknown. Analyzing the results of two previous miRNA array reports, we found that miR-146b-5p might be an onco-miRNA in ES progression. To test this hypothesis, we detected the expression levels of miR-146b-5p by real-time PCR and observed the effects of miR-146b-5p on the progression of ES cells by CCK8 and transwell assays. Bioinformatics and luciferase assays were used to identify the target genes of miR-146b-5p. It showed that the expression levels of miR-146b-5p were upregulated in ES cell lines compared with human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Up- or downregulation of miR-146b-5p in ES cell lines could effectively promote or block the proliferation, migration, and invasion of ES cells, respectively. Furthermore, we demonstrated that BTG2 was one of the target genes and mediated the effects of miR-146b-5p in ES cells. Interestingly, we also found that miR-146b-5p was partly involved in the anticancer effects of pemetrexed in ES cells. CQ211 chemical structure Our study revealed that miR-146b-5p affected the progression of ES by suppressing BTG2, which might shed light on anticancer drug development and ES treatment in the future. The Sauvé-Kapandji procedure is an established treatment option for distal radioulnar joint dysfunction. We retrospectively analysed 36 patients following Sauvé-Kapandji procedure between 1997 and 2013. Fifteen patients were available for a follow-up after a mean of 13 years (range 6 to 23). Six patients needed revision surgery because of ulnar stump instability. Radiographs and sonography were performed to quantify the instability of the proximal ulnar stump. These showed a radioulnar convergence of 8 mm without weight and 2 mm while lifting 1 kg. Sonographically, the proximal ulnar stump dislocated by 8 mm to the volar side while applying pressure to the palm, compared with 4 mm on the contralateral side. Sonographically measured ulnar stump instability showed a positive strong correlation with the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire and Patient-Reported Wrist Evaluations and a negative strong correlation with grip strength and supination torque. Because of the high incidence of revision surgery due to instability of the proximal ulnar stump, we restrict the use of the Sauvé-Kapandji procedure only to very selected cases.
