Peppermint is traditionally used as an antigalactagogue in breastfeeding women. However, the suppressive mechanism remains unclear. The authors investigate whether and how peppermint influences milk production at the cellular and molecular levels.

A lactating mammary epithelial cell (MEC) culture model that produces major milk components is prepared. Peppermint oil (PMO) suppresses β-casein production in conjunction with the induced enlargement of cytoplasmic lipid droplets (CLDs). PMO also significantly inactivates STAT5 and mTOR in the lactogenic signaling pathway. Menthol treatment, which is a primary PMO component, leads to decreases in β-casein production, enlarged CLDs, the inactivated STAT5 and mTOR. CrossFit is an activity that can provide positive influences on body composition and physical fitness. However, the occurrence or pattern of possible injuries, especially in the orofacial region, has not yet been studied. The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence and patterns of orofacial injuries in CrossFit practitioners.

This was a cross-sectional study carried out using an online questionnaire on the Google Forms platform. The volunteers were self-selected men and women who practice CrossFit and reside in Brazilian municipalities. The online survey was conducted during April 2020 and comprised 12 questions. The data were analyzed, categorized, and presented as percentages.

These were 65 (27.8%) participants who reported having suffered at least one episode of orofacial trauma and they were more prevalent during training sessions 58 (89.2%). Among the regions with the highest frequency of injuries, the head 23 (21%), mental protuberance 22 (19.6%), upper lip 19 (16.9%), and maxillary teeth 14 (12.5%) were the most cited.

There have been advances in synthetic MRI since the technique was introduced. Although a number of synthetic MRI methods have been developed for quantifying one or more relaxometric parameters and for generating multiple contrast-weighted images, this review focuses on several methods that quantify all three relaxometric parameters (T1 , T2 , and proton density) and produce multiple contrast-weighted images. Acquisition, quantification, and image synthesis techniques are discussed for each method. We discuss the image quality and diagnostic accuracy of synthetic MRI methods and their clinical applications in neuroradiology. Neural tube defects (NTD) are one of the most common congenital birth defects. The reason for the NTD cause is still not completely known, but it is believed that some genetic and environmental factors might play a role in its etiology. Among the genetic factors the polymorphism in the folate gene pathway is crucial. Numerous studies have suggested the possible role of maternal higher plasma concentration of homocysteine and low concentration of folate and cobalamin in the development of NTD but some negative studies are also published.

Aim of the present was to find out the exact relation between NTD and maternal biomarkers like folate, cobalamin and homocysteine by conducting a meta-analysis.

Different electronic databases were searched for the eligible studies. Standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was used to determine association between maternal markers as risk for NTD pregnancy. The p value <0.05 was considered statistically significant in all tests. All the statistical analyses were done in the Open Meta-Analyst program.

The homocysteine is significantly associated with the increased risk of NTD (SMD = 0.57; 95% CI 0.35-0.80, p = <0.001; I2 = 93.01%), s-folate showed protective role in NTD (SMD = -0.48; 95% CI -0.77 to -0.19, p = 0.001; I2 = 95.73%), similarly cobalamin is also having protective role (SMD = -0.28; 95% CI -0.43 to -0.13, p = <0.001; I2 = 80.40%).

In conclusion this study suggest that different maternal biomarkers may be used for the early prediction of the NTDs.
